Mesmerizing, that one. Glad I didn't end up hating the album in its entirety.

The melody is identical to that of Mylo Xyloto. Don't know what they were trying to achieve. The whole thing with those intros is ridiculous. They could've been merged with the songs they lead into.

It's dreadful. With or without Rihanna.

It's an outstanding piece of music, the brightest star of the album, followed by UWTB and CB.

5/10 It isn't actually what I was looking forward to for three years, but it taught me not to expect anything from Coldplay in the future. At the moment I feel like I wouldn't care much should they decide to retire. Their so desired masterpiece was made long before MX, anyway. As to the content of MX: My favourites are UATW and surprisingly, Up with The Birds. UATW was enchanting from the first time I heard it months ago. The studio version doesn't suffer any unnecessary changes and it sounds even more soft and friendly,Chris's voice there. I quite like UWTB, too. The eerie background in the first, solemn part of the song is mind-blowing, I would never have believed Coldplay could use something as wicked as that, especially not after my indifference, or rather disappointment with the most of what they produced this era. And then the unexpected, exuberant turn of the song. Liked that too. For me, this song is the only one where Coldplay succeed to surprise, in a positive way. It contains the reminiscences of the band I once loved. CB, HLH, ETIAW,Paradise and MM have remained the same and I already discussed them someplace else. I can't decide as to DLIBYH and UFO yet. That might signify they may be worth while. Princess of China- Ugh. The quality is not much better than that of the recorded video. Rihanna isn't helping much, either. I think all the intros (MX, MMIX, AHT) are stupid. As in, them being separate songs is completely unnecessary. Of the three, MX sounds quite nice and embellished, but I would tie it up with an actual song, that song not being HLH or any other of the album,though. It is such a shame to have MTM left out, but it obviously wasn't their thing this time. This is the first Coldplay album I have no intention of buying and I'm happy I haven't pre-ordered it. There are definitely albums more worth my money out there.

There are no songs on the album that would challenge those you mentioned in the name of the thread.

Yeah, say what you may, that can't be called a devoted fanship, as big as you say it is. I ground my statement on my friend's example. She likes the kind of music Rihanna makes, but she actually doesn't even have a favourite song by her. She never listens to the songs that got old and removes them from her ipod or whatever when something new pops up. And most of Rihanna's fans act likewise. And no, heaven forbid that they should be making music because of the money. Of course Gaga and the rest of them would at least try to pretend it is not like that. Enough said. If you read the second part of my post carefully, you will see that I didn't mention I want them to repeat themselves, nor did I even try to imply that. I kind of agree with the rest of what you have said.

Come to think of it, Rihanna &Co. don't really have fans. They produce music only to grab as much money as they can, with songs conveying no actual meaning but rather promoting money, booze, sluts and all sort of meaningless crap that make my stomach turn when I hear it mentioned in the lyrics. The music of that sort grabs attention for a couple of weeks and afterwards it's all completely forgotten about. It's disgusting and despise-worthy. Coldplay, along with many other artists (thankfully) have long preserved the ability to make music to last for an entire decade without losing its charm, music that matters. I don't know what Chris is trying to achieve and why he finds the above mentioned kind of music so alluring. I was reading Rolling Stone's reviews of Parachutes and AROBTTH, there were some fantastic things said about them and I thought: 'Chris,does that mean nothing to you?'. I am assured that the band would get attention and acknowledgement they want without trying so hard to achieve that, but by just being spontaneous and making the kind of quality music they used to make back in the early 2000's, when this weird influence was nowhere on horizon.

I don't like Chris's role models... Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Jay-Z, now Justin Bieber...k, they may not be his role models but everytime I see him admire some sort of pop-r'n'b-rap-crap stars I feel like giving him a good slap in the face.
