  1. I get a hell of a lot of emotion from Paradise, actually. I think for Chris to distance himself lyrically, and tell a story of sadness and longing for something more is brilliant to begin with, but the strings really add to it brilliantly. Up In Flames has emotion. Us Against The World has emotion. I get what you mean... You should listen to Kid A if you want true emotion...
  2. I think it's alright. Nothing outstanding. Certainly reminds me of new Radiohead... Sail to the Moon/Videotape. As for the ongoing X&Y debate, The Hardest Part over Swallowed In The Sea 100 times out of 100.
  3. I have to say, the melody of Paradise is better than I originally thought now it's sunken in a bit... I think these two songs we've heard are going to be better live than recorded.
  4. I love Muse, and I love all their stuff, which is more than can be said for Coldplay (X&Y). But I will say that I've seen both at Wembley, and the Coldplay gig felt like the best day of my life at the time. They're just... special.
  5. Pop doesn't have to be patronising, messy, over-the-top and brash. Gorillaz are pop. They're a brilliant and inventive band. The Beatles were pop and look at them. Quite frankly, don't limit yourself to genres, limit yourself to quality.
  6. Well I'm not and as I said "it's just frustrating when the only thing anyone has to say about Paradise is how long they've followed the band for." The only annoying thing is hearing people saying "Well I've been a fan from the start, and look how my band has declined". I'm not having a go at anyone who doesn't like the new material. I'm just saying, don't expect it to be like the old stuff and don't decide to dislike it because it's different.
  7. I'd say being a hater is having no clear reason to dislike it, and just choosing to for a reason other than the music.

Adding a poll to this :P
  9. Time Is Running Out is a terrible song by Muse's standards. The best song on that album is Butterflies and Hurricanes.
  10. I'm sorry I've upset people but I wasn't saying that their opinion wasn't valid if they didn't like the songs. And I'm sorry I'm clogging up the forum, but I haven't seen every discussion, and by the time I have it's generally been over. All I'm saying is, just because it's commercial, does that mean it's totally unlistenable?
  11. I read that. It doesn't seem like a minority.
  12. I've got no problem with the negative comments if they're constructive but "it's too pop" and "it's not old Coldplay" is not constructive. The same "I love it because it's Coldplay" isn't constructive.
  13. I'm sorry, but I'm fed up of people comparing MX against old material. Coldplay are not returning to their roots. Coldplay are progressing into new territory. No matter what they do, they will always be the band that wrote Politik, Everything's Not Lost, etc, so logically, some of that will manifest in Mylo Xyloto. But if you don't like the new direction, don't listen to it. Listen to your old albums. Bands who are well-respected move forward; ie Radiohead, U2. Bands who don't move forward so much, are less-respected; ie Oasis. It's a no-brainer to do something new, and is it really that pop? Really? More pop than In My Place? Viva La Vida? Yellow? The Scientist? Clocks? Fix You? I'm really sorry to rant, it's just frustrating when the only thing anyone has to say about Paradise is how long they've followed the band for.
  14. Ok, Damon Albarn is my hero, and I love the man more than Chris Martin, but this is unfair. Do you really think that everything Damon does is 100% original? This song's my favourite Blur song (and I'm a big Blur fan), but it's totally different to Paradise. There isn't much soul in Sing, it's mostly whispered lyrics - because Damon wasn't comfortable with his voice - and guitar theatrics from Coxon. Paradise is an obvious single, it's a stadium singalong, but it doesn't mean that effort hasn't gone in to craft it. Let's draw a line under all this now?
  15. If X&Y is so great, why did they only play Fix You from it this summer?
  16. Yeah, you're the one I got that idea from :P It makes sense though. In the same way that Eno reinvented U2, Godrich reinvented Radiohead with Kid A... I'd just love an In Rainbows-style record from Coldplay.
  17. Sooner it comes out, the better. Don't know how it works abroad, but video airplay is crucial to UK chart position, and I'd love Coldplay to get another number one.

I'm not basing it on the title, I'm basing it on the track order.
  19. Judge Chris Martin by melodies, not by lyrics. Yellow, In My Place and Everything's Not Lost are all terrible lyrically, and 42, Us Against The World and Moving To Mars are all good lyrically. So it works both ways.
  20. The chord sequence sounds like this to me.
  21. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdrFpPJgxC4]Blur - Sing - YouTube[/ame] The chord sequence sounds like this to me.
  22. It's fun to speculate, so calm down. I'm backing Nigel Godrich (Radiohead, Beck). Or Rich Costley (Mars Volta, Muse). I'd either like Coldplay to do something acoustic-electro a la In Rainbows/Sea Change or something a little bit heavier and theatrical - not Muse or Mars Volta kind of heavy, just more like 42.
