  1. Serious question: how are people scoring albums all the way to their decimal points? Do you have a mathematical formula or something that says "oh Viva la Vida is exactly 0.5 points better than Parachutes." :inquisitive:
  2. Parachutes - 7 A Rush of Blood to the Head - 8 X&Y - 4 Viva la Vida - 6 Mylo Xyloto - probably a 5 Just so everyone knows my scale: Some of my 10s include the likes of Loveless, Homogenic, Pet Sounds, etc. Some of my 9s include Daydream Nation, Since I Left You, Doolittle, etc.
  3. It's not that there's anything wrong with playing new songs at concerts + festivals. It's the fact that they have played a majority of the songs on the upcoming album, meaning we have a good guess of what the new record is going to sound like. For people who have been disappointed with recent songs, it is now highly unlikely that our opinions will change.
  4. :laugh3: Can you imagine Coldplay trying to play a song like The Gloaming? The National Anthem? Idioteque??? On a serious note, I wish they take more risks in developing their sound and incorporate other musical influences, something like jazz or experimental electronic music.
  5. A couple of more that I've been listening to a lot recently: Bjork - Biophilia Wilco - The Whole Love
  6. You sound very ignorant. While REM's recent output doesn't compare to their earlier work, there is no doubt about the band's contribution to music. There's a reason why bands like Nirvana, Pavement and Radiohead all hail REM as a major influence on their own music. Here's a suggestion: go get a copy of Automatic for the People and really listen to the songs. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRFFNSgo_N8]R.E.M. - Nightswimming - YouTube[/ame]
  7. Nigel Godrich (Worked with Beck, Pavement, Radiohead) Steve Albini (Worked with Nirvana, Pixies, PJ Harvey) Dave Sitek (Worked with Liars, TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs)

  9. There's just so much energy with Atoms for Peace: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cOV6aVI3UY]Atoms For Peace - Cymbal Rush (Live) HD - Fuji Festival 2010 - YouTube[/ame]
  10. I wish Coldplay would change their setlists more instead of playing the same songs over and over. Play some B-sides and other rarities.
  11. To the people claiming Coldplay is the biggest band in the world: have you ever been to a U2 concert? The U2 360 tour set records for the highest-grossing concert tour and for the highest-attended tour.
  12. I don't want to see tracks like The Present Tense or Burn the Witch on the Atoms for Peace album. I wouldn't mind seeing more tracks like these though: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCHyaqf_B3M]Thom Yorke and Atoms For Peace - Judge Jury and Executioner - Citi Wang Theatre Boston 2010-04-08 HD - YouTube[/ame]
  13. The Resistance was a terrible album. Mylo Xyloto so far sounds terrible. Given the recent output by both bands, it's shocking to think that they were ever compared to Radiohead....

  15. Is U2 the greatest band in the world? No Is U2 the biggest band in the world? Yes
  16. I think it's because the song was tinkered with too much in the studio.
  17. Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say Parachutes has the best lyrics. After all, I did vote for AROBTTH. It's just I'm shocked that Parachutes is behind both X&Y and MX. ......come on, X&Y over Parachutes? :shocked2::shocked2:
  18. I think this touches on a point many posters have now raised: where is the heart? Where is the emotion? Whether the fame and the money is getting to his songwriting, we'll never know. However, what we do know is that he's certainly capable of much better than some of the recent lyrics. that's the most disappointing aspect of it all. Off-topic: Do people seriously think Parachutes is the album with the worst lyrics? I know the poll isn't perfect because you can only choose 1 album. But at the same time, it's a bit shocking to see MX ahead of Parachutes.
  19. No, because "No Distance Left to Run" is actually good. :wink3:
  20. Right, I'm sure Chris Martin still has his share of problems but the magnitude of them must surely be mitigated by the fame and the success. Even science has shown the correlation between the amount of money one haves and that individual's level of happiness.
  21. I mean seriously, MX is close to overtaking Parachutes as well. Are we listening to the same songs?
  22. No. I wanted change but not what we're getting now
  23. .....are we watching the same video?
  24. ....X&Y has now overtaken Parachutes. :o BTW, for those people who voted Mylo Xyloto - do you actually think the songs we currently have have better lyrics than previous songs? Or is your excitement of getting new material clouding your judgment? I wish I had enabled the option where we could see who voted for which album.
