X Marks The Spot [HIDDEN TRACK]
I love this track - it is soo dancy, the beat is sooo groovy... The lyrics - well they're no different to a standard song from this genre, and cleaner and less objectifying. Btw, what's wrong with "my heart go ba-boom, ba-boom, boom"? It's obviously not lyric genius, but I don't find it offensive or negative in anyway... it does express that sentiment of feeling a strong emotion from the heart, and fits this genre... I haven't listened to the lyrics very closely, but I haven't heard anything offensive in them. Bland, possibly, but not offensive... But yeah, the beat to this one is so goood! Really makes me move to the music and wanna get off my a** and dance (secretly of course lol). It may have a shot at top of the pop charts (idk what gets there nowadays), I only know that I love it!!! The mix is beautiful (hats off, Stargate)... And I can still hear everyone in this song... Well done Will for coming up with that hypnotic, at-times aggressive beat (really digging it)! Guy for making it bass sounds like the next club anthem! Jonny for making it sound diirtayy (with that riffy guitar *squeals with joy*)! Chris just sounds right at home singing this lmao!!! What a joy to hear them write a song in this style that I can enjoy and dance to :D

Well, I guess there is still parts of their old sound in there, but I think all the bits of their new sound / direction has gone pop or the mainstream sound... although it's more 90's / 2000's to my ears (haven't listened to radio in awhile so I dunno what current pop trends sound like)

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
I whole-heartedly agree! Haven't heard the leaks either... but woke up to find the whole album available on iTunes - I was so pleased about that! I'm so happy with the whole album - they have gone almost fully pop with this one (sorry if anyone was still hoping otherwise), but I love the sounds in it! A lot of nods to the more classic '90's pop' sound, Fun sounds a bit like the Cure, I love both HFTW and especially XMTS (haha :O, I know) - they are both so catchy... just gets me up and dancing :D I find the whole album very listenable - none that makes me want to skip a song - this hasn't happened in their last few albums... --> Satisfied fan here!!! But yeah, rock CP is currently at least on a hiatus (if not fully dead)

I've now got the whole album... Woohoo! iTunes in Australia has released it :D It is beautiful - I really dig it, hope everyone is able to embrace their new sound and direction :) It's defo mainstream and pop!

===The ultimate Oldplaying Thread===S, BS, TBR, P, AROBTTH, X&Y, VLV, PM===
I also noticed how a thread originally celebrating Oldplay has quite quickly degraded into complaining about Newplay (go ahead, blame the new album and what this band has degenerated into... We all know already, pop is evil, everyone's sold out and yep, the Band is dead). No one flamed this thread until the band-bashing started here...

===The ultimate Oldplaying Thread===S, BS, TBR, P, AROBTTH, X&Y, VLV, PM===
^ I think jaytheblue might have a problem not so much with the MX threads but the long stream of negativity in the mixed / open threads... I particularly notice the number of people who seem to be saying the same thing / similar things. I guess everybody wants to have a say, but if it's not particularly new / insightful, and particularly if it's negative, why keep repeating it individually rather than just using a thumbs up? Just brings the mood down a bit... Far easier to criticize than be constructive (although that's not a fan's job to be constructive/ positive I guess, just complain away...)

[2016-02-07] Coldplay headlining Super Bowl 2016 - Confirmed
Funny, I thought you were quite serious when you said it - I even gave you a thumbs up lol :laugh3: I'm not American but know it's pretty much like the biggest sporting event (if not show) on earth... I have mixed feelings- on the one hand they have made a very populist album for the masses so something like Super Bowl halftime would make sense particularly if they continue to look to expand their fan base, but on the other hand they would probably only perform their very mainstream/poppy songs, which would misrepresent what they're about (although a whole new group of people could then be introduced to the band and eventually find out about their earlier work). Idk, but on balance I feel I should support it if it is what they actually want to do...

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
Shh! Don't give them ideas... :laugh3: I think you've just jinxed yourself there... They might learn and stop dabbling if the album doesn't do well, but otherwise, it might just give them the confidence to just go try these as well... They probably already have fun covering these types of songs in their down /jam-time - they might even have some accidental recordings of these sitting around...

I didn't even notice :laugh3: I usually refresh with the new posts function :) If alisbe and the mods agree, maybe it should be moved to the lounge / AHFOD section?

Everglow
I really like that it has a classic late '80s - early '90s epic ballad feel to it... I really loved that era's style, which had beautiful emotional voice (usually female) + piano accompaniment / beautiful other single instrument line + slow tempo with quietness eventually giving way to a swelling of sound... Think Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Roxette, or more dramatically G&R doing November Rain / Estranged (although CM will need a few more break-ups and rock 'n' roll experiences before he'll ever develop that bitterness :laugh3: JB would however confidently deliver that guitar line :sneaky: - one can only dream)... :rolleyes: Cheesy I know, but still it has all my early familiar childhood memories... Am I the only one that finds comfort and familiarity in their new styles of songs? I think they were going for a combination of nostalgia and their own take of all the genres from their childhood / early musical influences with this album - the unavoidable hits that the parents played on the radio when one was still a child - hence the album cover with them as kids... I have a feeling a lot of those "cringe-worthy" moments are totally intentional - to stay true to genre, although I haven't heard the rest of the album

Ticket pricing?!
I understand it is not cheap, but they put on a very good show. If you think they are expensive, compare to U2 - http://www.musictimes.com/articles/48428/20150921/u2-innocence-experience-tour-2015-vs-360-ticket-prices-compared.htm Even for the same amount of money, I'd pay to see Coldplay over U2 anytime... I think Coldplay are a better immersive experience for the fan (of course I may be biased) ;)

Club of coldplayers in a coldplaying hiatus
You're welcome, thank alisbe and Jaytheblue for creating this thread... Glad you could join us ;) And while we patiently wait... some Youtube vids for the VLV Tour from MTV World Stage recording in Saitama Super Arena, Tokyo (2009) https://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=791122248F06A991 Shall we start some discussions about their back catalog? How about favourites from each of the albums on each day of the countdown (it's one a day until AHFOD is released for those catching up :)) For Parachutes, I really love Sparks and We Never Change... They are such melancholic and affecting songs. So downbeat and warm... Although Trouble was the one that really touched me and spoke to me first, and the reason I fell in love with this band :D Actually thinking back, all of them are almost on equal footing from that album (except the studio versions of Yellow and Everything's Not Lost - I don't like them as much as the others :P) For AROBTTH, it's AROBTTH! It really moved me and resonated with me hearing someone like Chris who was singing about Don't Panic and Shiver sing "I'm gonna buy a gun and start a war, If you can tell me something worth fighting for!" coupled with Jonny's guitar lines and the rest of the band's smouldering sounds... It was the year after Sept 11th, when all the war rhetoric and invasion into Afghanistan was going on - it really struck a chord at the time. And yesss!!! 6-7 minute song, yay!!! :loveshower: Glad they waited til they felt confident they could do it... they have been building to this over the years - you can see it in their concerts

^ Yeah except when iTunes decides to release it later than everyone else... I only got Everglow practically after everyone else despite pre-ordering it! :(

Production on the album
^^All of this... Thanks guys for articulating it so well!!! This over-compression is why I really disliked X&Y for the longest time... I was listening to it on normal speakers in normal volume when it first came out and it just sounded so lack-lustre and flat, and I could never get into it... All the sound that came out felt like a block / wall and I couldn't hear any nuance at all in the sounds. It was only when one day I listened on earphones and turned it up real loud that I noticed it sounded "good" again and I was able to start appreciating it. And because the sounds often are so compressed already, their quality degrades even further with ripping at lower bit-rates. And because this band is about the emotional quality and richness of sound for me, both dynamic compression and the lower bit-rates of rips really diminish the enjoyability of their music for me. The only factor I can change here is the bit-rate - I won't even listen to ripped mp.3's on my car stereos (those versions just sound annoying) so all the band's music is straight from the CD / iTunes, otherwise it really affects the sound for me. That is why I am happy that they are becoming better musicians - hopefully they can reduce the dynamic compression / have done so already... And that's another reason I am not listening to leaks this time until the album comes out the way it is intended... For me anyway, the band need all the help they can get - no point ruining the experience with a lower-quality leak particularly when my ears can tell the difference... And yes, the newer albums always need to have their volumes DIALLED UP!!! :D

THIS! Is what I'm waiting for and looking forward to... Thanks for confirming what I was hoping for - really looking forward to it now! :dance:

Club of coldplayers in a coldplaying hiatus
I joined the WikiColdplay editing / transfer over to new site project... I see a few of us here are actually involved as well... That's another useful way to occupy time while we wait another 5-6 days :D Nah, I'm actually quite relaxed about the whole thing... Nothing's gonna change the album now. And from my experience, I usually put their new music on endless repeats anyway just to give it a chance to settle in and find it's place among their previous songs and albums... It takes awhile to fully savor the Coldplay experience and feel it under my skin... And this time, it's been the shortest wait to an album ever, what's a few more days :) If anything I find your optimism refreshing on this site... Too many critics all trying to say the same thing (often in exactly the same way) is what I find annoying- that's what the 'thumbs up' button is for, what a waste of space :rolleyes:

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
I'm out until the album releases... Learnt my lesson from X&Y and MX to some extent... Both these require LOUD volumes and good equipment / bit-rates to fully appreciate the complexity of sound, otherwise they're quite lacklustre and feel like something's missing... So I won't ruin the album by hearing it in sub-standard quality- in Coldplay's case, what people say about reduced quality with non-originals / compressed bit-rates stands true!
