  1. Thanks for that video... I unfortunately went on a CP hiatus and missed out on most of the live bits from that era. It did seem like they were really pushing themselves musically then... And then for whatever reason, that stopped
  2. That was a very good guess... Could be the subconscious origin of all those birds and flying references
  3. Yep, in about 10 DAYS!!! I'm still digesting all their new material, I dunno how to feel... Too full of emotion to process that we're about to get the whole thing in 10 days... BEFORE Christmas!!!
  4. I think that explains Chris' state of mind half the time with his own songwriting :laugh3: It's Conference of (the) Birds - look it up - Chris cited it as an influence in the song...
  5. ^ Quick, you gotta put your stamp on this thread! Together with all the newbies like us :devilish:
  6. Great minds think alike! :D I also like the one... Minute theory :laugh3:
  7. While we're on the topic of primates, has anyone else noticed Google's Doodle today? Apparently it's Lucy, the earliest 'human'... Also named after the Beatles' Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds :D Must be a coincidence...
  8. I view it as part of their transition towards more "widescreen" cinematic type music... They seem to be moving towards expressing emotion through the actual music itself with less focus on words / lyrics - they might even attempt a full movie soundtrack one day... That seems to me where they're headed. Coincidentally, bands like Muse and RH are also getting more instrumental in their emotional expression. This contrasts to their earlier work that is a more personal singer-songwriter style... They are now becoming more orchestral (which fits as a group of musicians now collaborating together), but I think a portion of 'Oldplayers' dislike this less personal feel although the other half just don't like that their standards have dropped. My only argument/ defense for it is it's far more difficult to put as much care into / obsess about everything when the scope is bigger
  9. How lucky are we all as a group? I dunno that many bands, but my guess is not many continuously work on their songs, particularly their hits the way Coldplay do... I reckon there are probably 2-5 versions of all their album songs for each one that has been released.
  10. I literally meant it (just calculating 7 years old in 2008 means born in 2001, means conceived in 2000, possibly when Parachutes was released) :P Haha... you'll always be the age of Coldplay's oldest album (less about one year) - how cool! :D Age is really just a number - you have good taste! ;) And on that note, I dunno that many Coldplayers are much older than you are... Me on the other hand... Sad to say, I'm more than double your age :shocked2:
  11. ^ You're obviously a hard marker :) Just out of interest, have you ever thought a Coldplay song reached a 10/10? And just for comparison, which pieces of music (from any musician) have reached 10/10 and why?
  12. Given their various homages / influences, I wonder whether this could be their nod / tribute to RH? I would be sooo dazzled if it is. The title is very Radiohead-ish to me, like they were referencing You and Whose Army?
  13. I can't wait!!! I hope they have more of those cute elephants on tour like they did last time!!! Ooh, I just heard they had some monkeys on the AMA's, does that mean we will be seeing them too??? Oh, and I hope they invite Justin Bieber too (btw, I heard there front man, Chris whatever lolz is a fan, how dope)... OMG Biebs, HE. DA. MAN. I love him to death, he is soooo cuteee!!!! :dazzled:
  14. ^ I don't think it has to debut at no. 1, it just has to reach it / finish the week at the top spot... I think they might be a decent chance, although I'm not from the UK
  15. I just saw people twit "jb can't sing" lol :laugh3: I almost had a heart attack laughing - jb = Justin Bieber (not our Jonny lol) I'm hanging out way too much at the boards
  16. Now this really sounds Indian / middle eastern... I really dig the reversed guitar riff!
  17. Oh wow... That is so gracious of you! *bows in admiration* No need to apologise - I am humbled by your acknowledgement! :nice:
  18. :laugh3: You should audition to be Coldplay's lyricist! (Dunno what Chris will do though... :laugh3:)
  19. Aww thanks Thalia... I now got you on my sig! :D
  20. Up&Up is just so epic, but they'll need a bit more practice - all 4 of them flubbed up at different times before they got to Jonny's first solo! :laugh3:
  21. ^ Actually U2 + pop (not the teenage pop-crap kind but the more mature pop from the late 80's - early 90's) in all its good incarnations... it's just well-crafted pop. They sound like they are collecting bits and pieces of good sounds everywhere and putting it all together for the album, but I think the overall feel is very mainstream
  22. Thanks jc90 for linking to this thread... Thanks again guys for making me an Honorary Coldplayer! Btw, I just noticed another oldie oldmuckers - he / she has been here since 2003 and fulfills the post criteria too... and seems reasonably active still! :) P.S. A slightly more prominent shade (of colour) for our usernames would be nice! :D
