  1. I hope I'm not annoying with my predictions, but I have a feeling it will be better this time. As usual, they learn from their mistakes - I think soon you will hear Chris reference how he felt the MX recordings could have been better if they had not played so much live first or how they had difficulty replicating that live feel and feedback in the studio... They are also having a shorter run-up to their album release - part of it is to reduce over-exposure before the album comes out (ie the let-down after hearing too many live versions). MX was definitely written for live performances in mind - I reckon they went "lets record a whole album that will sound awesome live"... they succeeded but as a result fans don't like the actual album as much. With AHFOD, their actual playing / musicianship has improved - so I predict a lot of the playing will be clean and pristine, which will translate into a beautiful recording on the album - I have also noticed the sounds are fuller now (ie will not sound as compressed as X&Y songs hopefully), and this will also be a satisfying listen (for me at least)... this is my head full of hopes for this album anyway :P
  2. They probably thought it was too U2'esque for their opening single...

Haha... No one's said it yet but Coldplay have finally broken their own 4 minute rule... :laugh3:
  4. I hope for you they do one... otherwise I fear their "simple" ballad this album may be Amazing Day, judging by the epic sounds they are piling on!
  5. That song has such a good non-floaty melody - it's a magnificent flourish / blossoming ballad rather than their Oldplay guitar melody atmospherics
  6. As usual I try to actively listen to each of the lines and identify them individually (takes a few listens of course :P), then eventually after I have found all / most of the lines, they all combine in my head when the music is played into a version that resembles "definitive"... That way none of their music gets boring. AOAL is just bursting with variations between the parts / lines... I'll have to post my musical highlights for this song in the AOAL thread sometime - it looks like a blissful surf between the lines of sound :D If you're looking to just relax / melt into the sound, it will be too "noisy" / boring as it's not immediately easy to untangle without some attention
  7. That is my only worry... But then again, maybe people will understand that in the album they are doing tributes to everything they love - it's more U2 than U2, which is quite an achievement actually - they've obviously figured out what makes U2 sound like U2! :laugh3: I only wonder what U2 themselves will think? :uhoh:
  8. Haha, Amsterdam is right guys... One of you go :)
  9. I think it is because they are trying to cram as many lines / parts as much as possible - do you listen with good quality headphones? If not, I suggest to try it, also try catching all the individual lines... AOAL has like at least 6-8 layers (I only finally got familiar enough with it to hear them all)... Amazing Day needs everyone to be exactly at the right tempo, that's why each new performance sounds better than the last. As I said elsewhere before, they are challenging themselves musically in the way they perform I think - things need to be absolutely spot on, then they sound amazing, otherwise something will sound off... They are raising the complexity stakes (sound-wise anyway)!
  10. AHFOD = U2 tribute - sounds more U2 than U2!!! :laugh3: Up&Up = Train + Gospel epic sing-a-long + two massive Jonny solos (recalling all the great rock solos out there :dazzled::loveshower:) --> one very satisfied Coldplay fan :pleased:
  11. ^ Wow that's a nice gesture! It's only recent (as in the past 24 hours) right?
  12. OMG, how did that happen??? I didn't even notice my status has changed as I haven't posted anything yet this morning (yep it's now Sunday morning here :D). Thanks Guys (@the Boards), I feel real honoured to be on this list although I dunno what I did exactly to get there... Thanks so much, all the same :pleased: I'll try my best to live up to this "title" :P
  13. Haha, that could be you, but you're less shrill and more considered! :D
  14. Ok, here goes... What do Anne Frank and Vincent van Gogh have in common?
  15. Sorry your thread kinda got ruined by some OT posts, including mine. Promise I'll try to be good and stay on-topic :P
  16. I wonder whether the string / synth thing will be dating? Although Paradise will continue to be a good song for its era anyway...
  17. Aww thanks :) Batman drew it for one of her brilliant points/posts! I loved it so much I asked whether I could use it as my avatar - it makes such a good point about this forum sometimes :D
  18. Thank you for your compliment, it was a rather long post :P
  19. I think I just broke that argument :laugh3: http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/threads/105152-AHFOD-Reviews-by-Music-Critics?p=5764864&viewfull=1#post5764864 I did it on purpose anyway :P Thank you, you are very complimentary! I guess I'll just be a "silent" mod :sneaky:
  20. ^ He's doing "the Gorilla"? :P
  21. Conceived during Parachutes? :D (hope you're not offended :P)
  22. That one's a longer video at 30 sec... Quick go view it before it disappears :)
  23. Hello and welcome! :) Do you mean the Coldplaying mobile app? It might not be possible through your mobile :(
  24. I can't remember where exactly it was loaded to, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't on Coldplay's official channel, no...
  25. ^^ I'd like to officially welcome all "Newplayers" - I'm an "allplayer" myself - I've been with this band since Parachutes and I'm still here... don't let some of the Oldplayers scare you off - you all have an equal right to be here, and like / dislike their music and express your opinion :) I will speak up if things are swinging too much in the "shitty" / negative direction :)
