AUSSIE FANS - COLDPLAY concert (has come) or is coming!
Haha if only you knew what was coming... What would you say about the Japan match after today's match? Now this morning was something. :shocked2: What a shocker, two comebacks, missed handballs, a player with 3 yellow cards, the agony of having to withstand overwhelming Croat pressure in the last 10 minutes!!! I was quite ready to rip my hair out with the tension, can't imagine what it must feel like for you guys in the closing moments. And CP tonight! Chris is gonna have a field day with the soccer references :D Well, what a way to kick off a birthday eh? :laugh3: Wish everyone a great time at their concerts :) GO Australia!!! Italy's next!

AUSSIE FANS - COLDPLAY concert (has come) or is coming!
Yeah that was such a great game... I was wondering towards the end whether I made the right choice to stay up and watch as I had to wake up real early the next day. Boy am I glad I did... I was so happy when Tim's second goal went in I cried! :o But yeah, the last two goals made it all worthwhile... I had blurry eyes after that but who cares? We won!!! Kudos to the Socceroos and everyone's (including the crowd's) self-belief & never-say-die attitude. That's what I love about AUstralia!!!

brilliant/intelligent statements
Awww thank you Kekita and Lunar1126... I am honoured. I was most surprised that a thread with this topic was started and that I was personally named  And on a totally random note, I dunno how I actually managed to spot this thread seeing that I haven't really been able to get on here much lately ;)

Bush calls for gay marriage ban
Sorry I'm off-topic here (but don't even get me started on the gay-marriage issue - I swear it'll make me kill myself one day). I just couldn't let this one go...

The Muse Thread - Hate This & I'll Hate You
Based on track record, RH... They've yet to produce an album that's not been mindblowing/bettered their previous work let alone be a let down. But it's a bit unfair for Muse... c'mon, they're a 3-man band... How can 3 people compete with a group of 5 thoroughly talented and united/harmonious people e.g. Radiohead? They'd lose just through sheer lack of manpower

Nelly Furtado : "Chris is so humble"
It's one thing to be humble, it's another to keep saying that you think all that you've ever done is sh*t. I mean I can understand that at some point in his song-writing/creative process, Chris does honestly feel that what he's done is sh*t. But IMO, I think it's impossible to go on doing something for as long as Chris has been doing and still think all the stuff you produce is crap... Where would that leave a person? Either very depressed / self-hating (coz you're producing only crap all the time) or trying very hard all the time. Chris does exhibit both of these, especially the latter. I do wish sometimes that he could appreciate himself more or at least not be so self-aware and over-analyse the significance / impact of everything he has ever done. It sure would boost his confidence and song-writing - witness all the non-CP stuff he's ever done. A lot of those sound more natural (and I would rate some of them better) than their album stuff. Contrivance (through over-analysis) does NOT work when your band's working for earnestness and honesty in the music. But in saying a person cannot go on thinking all his work is crap, I don't mean that Chris has been lying / is not genuine in his self-effacing. He's probably been misrepresented (though not necessarily intentionally) by the media. I do believe that at some point he does really think he's no good, but at the same time, a part of him does recognise later on that his work is worth something. Unfortunately the people who quote him tend to see his self-effacing moments and are not around when he's reconciled with his work. This in turn feeds the media machine that perpetuates the image that Chris "always thinks his creative output is sh*t". Out of this, comes the divide between the people who think he is genuine in his self-effacing, and those who think he's just milking the PR machine. I think we all could do with some readjusted perceptions on Chris.

Radiohead
The funny part is... I found them (or at least Chris & Thom's voices) awfully similar when I initially heard Radiohead after having listened to Coldplay for a couple of years. But then again, I did think Chris' style of singing was even more comparable to Jeff Buckley (and now Muse's Matt Belamy to Thom). How much perceptions change. I think it has partly to do with trying to find the next most similar band/voice to compare to - back then, Coldplay's style of emotive music was quite unique - and also, partly to do with one's own depth of understanding in music (and life). I find that as I grow older and get to know more and more bands and explore the realm of so-called 'Brit-pop/rock' further, the more diverse and different I find the sounds between the various British bands. It's no longer just four blokes with good tunes and guitars - there are so many more layers. Just 1-2 years ago I would've said Coldplay & Radiohead are comparable. Now, I would call it grossly unfair and a bit akin to comparing apples and oranges (albeit maybe a fresh, crunchy apple with a slightly sour orange :P). In my mind, I know that now.

A daily drink 'only good for men'
:o Wow! I'm totally gob-smacked by how alcohol-free we are here (in comparison to the "average" population)... Doctors would be proud :smug: As for me, I have about 1-2 drinks every few weeks and that's about it. Can't take more or I'd be sick :laugh3:

IF YOUR FAVOURITE BAND DID NOT EXIST?...
A serious question warrants a serious answer. But yes, I might not be here if Coldplay didn't exist... Other bands might make better music and one of them (e.g. Radiohead easily) could even become my 'favourite' or top-rated band, but nothing can or ever will replace Coldplay. This band quite literally saved my life. Their music gave me something to hold on to at a time nothing else could. So maybe for some, if their favourite band didn't exist, they might quite conceivably latch on to some other similar band, it wouldn't be true in my case. There was nothing else that sounded like Parachutes back in 2001 (and I have yet to find anything else that embodies all the things it meant to me then). If I didn't hear Parachutes back when I did (heck, I didn't even like Yellow :laugh3: ), goodness knows whether I'd be around long enough for another band to come along and take their place. Suicide, would be understandable. What a thought.

Radiohead
Ahh yes, how could I totally have forgotten --> Arpeggi :shocked2: Beautiful song, especially the version Thom recorded with the orchestra... I was left speechless. I'm loving House of Cards too at the moment. As for Videotape, I'm not too sure... Still needs some refining IMO. Overall, I think it would be a good idea for them to not rush out the album... Early next year sounds just about right. That would give them more time to really get into their songs :nice:

Radiohead
I almost didn't notice (seriously - your comment made me take a second look) :laugh3: 1) I like the new ones - 15 Steps really does it for me, what a genius of a song! :shocked2: They (I suspect it has more to do with Thom than anything) have finally allowed themselves to let their hair down and be happy. As was commented in the news, Radiohead being sunny and having fun... :o But I luff it, what a nice change. 2) I felt the new songs were closer an even earlier period tho... somewhere between Pablo Honey and The Bends (in spirit at least) rather than OKC. I think they're returning to where they started - but the songs are so different (10 times more complex for starters) from the early years because obviously they've come such a long way since then. They're such a great, amazing band, and to see the potential they've realised since they started out is just :shocked2: Everything about this band musically is just :shocked2:  3) I was a little bit surprised at the quality of the songs though. Obviously they're probably still tweaking the songs but I felt most of the songs lacked the usual RH punch of their albums. Apart form 15 steps (which was totally mind-blowing to say the least), the others seem to lack their usual intensity/complexity... I mean they're still great songs (compared to everything and everyone else out there) but I thought they would've tweaked their ideas a little more. The musical themes/ideas are really good but seem a little under-developed - anyone else noticed or is it just me? 4) Finally, a huge request - can anyone post links to filesharing sites (preferably RS) for any of their new songs / gigs? From what I can gather, vids can't be ripped from Youtube :( I'd just die if I had 15 steps :)
