Anyone interested in doing an album of the year/song of the year poll? Was it skipped last year? :thinking:

Also excited and surprised that it's so diverse but also worried it might be their first album that's not coherent. But we've only heard a couple of seconds of each song so WHO KNOWS what they actually sound. Fortunately I have no life so I was here for every release since I joined the forum. :nice:

I've been completely obsessed with I Ran Away ever since I rediscovered it in this thread. And they've never even played it live. Is it because it's a half-demo? I mean the lyrics are a bit unfinished. I'd literally die if they played it on this tour. GOD. :dead:

What is actual closr tho? As getithom pointed out, I consider Til Kingdom Come, Life Is For Living, The Escapist, the "O" part of Fly On/O more of a bonus thing, after the real cathartic closer has ended. Also I think their closers are a bit formulaic, especially the recent ones, but Everything's Not Lost too. Just because they have to sound a certain way and provide a feeling of closure they tend to end up sounding...corny. Up&Up so far also falls in that category. But it's nice that they try to create a feeling of wholeness, a well constructed album, instead of ending it abruptly.

POC was a good experimental pop song. HFTW sounds immensely more interesting than Everglow. Would you rather an amazingly executed pop song or a badly written song that sounds like "real" Coldplay? It's not even a real choice for me.

OMG Thalia I almost wrote a similarly long post in the Oldplayers thread but managed to contain myself. :shame: FUCK THIS FUCKING BAND FOR CHANGING SO DRASTICALLY!!! :veryangry2: But honestly, when I think about it, I'm not even aware that I subconsciously think of this band as a completely different one. As if they died after X&Y and emerged as gloriously fabulous phoenixes that are inferior to their previous selves but still have a will to live. I understand the divide between fans, it would have almost been easier if they disbanded and formed a new band.

@beastwars I agree but I think they lost their recognizable sound with that very album. To me, AROBTTH will always be their pinnacle. I don't want them being experimental (most artist yes, but they don't do it right), I don't want them being stadium rock, just the piano, guitar, bass, drums, nothing unique about it except for Chris' voice and the sentiment. X&Y was the album I connect most with because that's when I became a fan, but that album is uneven, they were in a rut, they had to change. Viva was the result of that, with all subsequent albums trying to repeat it.
