Yep. Or at least, Neil (and Tim) are, anyway. Happy to find another fan here! New Zealand is one of my dream destinations. It looks like such an amazingly gorgeous place.

(I'm just teasing :p) Anywho, seriously, eh, like stated, some people's tastes change and certain styles aren't to their liking. I happen to like every aspect of Coldplay's work, but some like a certain phase more than others, and that's fine. That will happen with any band that sticks around, you're going to have the fanbase divided up into all sorts of camps, the "I liked them before everyone knew who they were" crowd (whom I sorta find annoying-good for you for getting to them first? 'Cause, you know, things that are beyond a fan's control, like their ages or locations in the world, can't possibly factor into when they finally do wind up hearing about a band), the people who like the simple early days, the people who didn't get on board until recently, etc. My issue tends to come in the reason for some of the complaints-they're "too pop" or "too top 40"-if they hadn't been before and are just now experiencing that phase in their career, that'd be one thing, but to make that complaint about a band who's experienced that pretty much almost their whole career seems a bit odd. Or they want a "part 2" essentially of their favorite album/period. Isn't the fact that that period is so original and unique the reason why you love it? Why would you want a complete replica? Wouldn't that take away what made the original so special? Or the people who hear ONE album they don't like and oh, my god, they're just done with the band now 'cause clearly that means they'll never make anything good again! Stuff like that. It just doesn't make much sense to me, those sorts of arguments (and I feel this way about any artist's fanbase who makes these arguments). It's a strange dance artists must do. Fans complain when the artist they love isn't popular, and constantly say, "How can people listen to *Insert artist/music that's really big at the time here*? It's crap! They should be listening to stuff like *Insert band you love here*, they have actual talent!" But then, when your favorite artist does get big, then it's "Oh, my god, they're too big now, they're everywhere and all these people are pretending to be fans." So which is it? You want the band to be loved and known or you don't?

*Feels pleased to have never heard the Crazy Frog song* I've heard OF it, certainly, but I seem to have escaped actually hearing it. Oh, god, I can only imagine the price. But if I had the money? Hell, yes, I'd be plopping some bucks down. I agree, though, there'd have to be a lot of artists there I'd want to see-but from the lists I've seen over the years, that seems to be fairly likely to happen.

I wish they'd do subtitle things on those interviews or something-I understand they need to have the band's responses translated into French for those who don't speak English, and that's totally fine. Unfortunately, it drowns out the English version as a result and I can't hear what they're saying. Hehehe :D. And as such, it might cause you to have a harder time concentrating on actual math (or, maybe Coldplay thoughts will help you do better at math?). Oh, okay. Misread, apparently :p. Certainly a good idea. Try and stop it as early as possible. I never liked the smell, it always gave me a headache, so that alone was enough to keep me away. Then upon hearing about all the other things smoking can do to you, that just clinched it. Yeah. A person has to have the will to help themselves. Not to say people around them shouldn't care or be concerned or try to help, but if the person smoking isn't interested, it's just going to come off as nagging. And we all know nagging is annoying :p. I agree about the cake. I want one of those, too :D. And Coeurli, hehe, I hear that "Chris Martin knows it" song from time to time, too, and it always makes me smile and laugh.

In some circles, it does seem people are starting to come back around to them again. Kinda started back with Viva La Vida-I've noticed some people are having to grudgingly admit of late, "Yeah, I guess these guys aren't so bad, after all." But there is also always going to be the general teasing and making fun, yeah. I do agree with Coeurli's excellent post, though. Cool or not, I don't care. All that matters is what I think of the band. I like them. I always have. And that's that. Nothing annoys me more than people trying to act so cool and hip and "ironic" about music.

Ugh, Row, yeah, that definitely qualifies for a crap morning :hug:. I'm so glad everything got sorted out and your cat will be okay, though, and yay for Coldplay being there unexpectedly (along with the coffee server and the coffee itself) to help you feel better :). They do write some incredibly reassuring songs, don't they? I've said it before, listening to them sometimes is like getting a big ol' hug from a good friend who will just let you cry or vent on their shoulder for an hour. Aaaaaaaand we have my full attention :D. Hehe. As for the smoking discussion, yeah, I hope whomever in the group does smoke will stop, or is stopping, or has stopped, or whatever. I'll never understand the appeal of smoking. It's your body, so whatever, I guess-all the lectures and such in the world won't make people stop if they don't want to, but I don't get why people do it at all.

*Nods* They have always been the band I've had to defend liking. I mean, most people I know aren't nasty with their remarks about the band, Coldplay's just not been their thing, but there are those out there who are really vicious towards them, and I'm always sitting there confused as to why. But then I think, why do I need to defend my taste in music? I know what I like. I like Coldplay. If someone else doesn't, that's totally fine. And we'll leave it at that.

Super cool you got to chat with him. I can imagine so! That's one hell of a pitch and I'm really impressed he even went for it, but yeah, it'd definitely be enough to mess with any artist's voice. I've noticed the change in his voice in recent years, he's started to put a lot more control over it, and I think it's a wise move for him to not push it that hard on a regular basis so he can preserve that. Certainly wouldn't want him to have a vocal issue like Adele did.

Everyone else has either been confused or hated it, it seems. Yeah. I certainly would've been happy to hear "Charlie Brown", too, definitely. But "Paradise" was pretty much everywhere for a while there, so I'm guessing that's why they went with it *Shrugs*.
