Dude, don't ever go to Arcade Fire's or Muse's official board then x) Coldplaying is one of the the nicest and the kindest messageboard i've seen for a while.

WHAT.THE.ACTUAL.FUCK.IS.THIS.SONG ??? Why do I hate it ? 1 : it's based on the same 4 chords than Up&Up and also every freakin pop song from the last 30 years. If all the album is based on these freakin chords I'm gonna die. Litterally. On the floor. Heart attack. How come the members from Coldplay, who KNOW about music/chords etc because they're GOOD musicians, manage to do this poor trick again and again ? 2 : It's just boring because it's a piano/voice based track : sometimes it's beautiful 'cause the song is good. Sometimes it's not coz the song is not. And what Jonny does here is NOT saving the song like it saved Amazing Day or AOAL. And Will's drums are, as HowCouldIForget pointed it before, generic. 3 : Speakin about generic, it actually sounds like a generic Coldplay song. It would be perfect as a live interlude, à la Postcards/Hardest Part. But not on an album that's supposed to be CP's final chapter, something intense and exceptional. (BUT I must admit that Chris's vocal delivery and the (nearly) lack of ooooohs are quite nice.)

manmanmanman holy fuck .... BIRDS !!! Here We Go Magic just drools all over da place in this track. But it's a gooooooood thing !!! Finally a song without ooooh aaaaah cheese and stuff. And more importantly (what seems to be) an INSPIRED song. HFTW and AHFOD seem very very bland but I'll wait the full songs before misjudging them. But this "Birds" groove sounds just awesome !! Can't wait for this one

this version of Amazing Day is not as awful as the other one, and Chris' vocal delivery is really good here. I might maybe maybe maybe maybe listen to it with some weird little kind of pleasure someday. But wtf happened to ASFOS ?? It just sounds like a rock song now and it sounds GOOD :o I'm so surprised. Why the fuck didn't they release the full band version ?? It's just beautiful when the guitar and the good ol' acoustic drums are on the forefront. Coldplay you should trust the amazing musicians you already are, not all the other ones you'll never be.

Exactly, once again you're totally right. If we go to a discussion forum, well basically the aim is to discuss with other people, exchanging ideas, debating about things, to agree with some people, to disagree with others, etc. I don't want this forum to be a place where everyone posts sweetened things and never really react on other's opinion because finally they are as valid as their own. If everyone's opinion isn't debatable because it's subjective, well, what's the point to even talk ? And about AOAL, even if I'm sad of the evolution of Coldplay here, the song's kinda growing on me. It's a good track to dance to, and the main hook is cool. Still, I can't get over the fact that I completely lost the "thoughtful" Coldplay. I mean, before MX we kinda never knew if a song was happy or sad, completely melancholic or completely life affirming. Now it's basically a two-modes Coldplay : Ghost Stories is sad 'cause there's a dark artwork with sad lyrics and ambient moments + slow tempos. MX and AOAL (I fear AHFOD to be like this nearly all along) are happy because there are colours and graffitis and rainbows and more radio hits + many uptempos songs. I'm simplifying a bit (there's always exceptions) but it's quite close. Just look at VLV, Talk, GPASUYF, IMP, or Violet Hill for example. I couldn't tell if any of these songs are happy or sad. That's what makes them unique, IMO.

Exactly. Not utter shite, but still... We're talking about the band that made Violet Hill, Trouble, Square One, Cemeteries of London, Clocks, AROBTHH, Death & All His Friends, White Shadows... This is really disappointing. Not a bad track though. I was really expecting something awful after that "Earth Song" rip off that was Amazing Day. But still... my hope are very, very low for this album. And this note on their website is just pouring with cheese all over. "let's embrace happiness altogether with coldplay"... ugh, not for me thanks. Jonny where are you ? Don't listen to Chris, give us some shoegaze, give us some dreampop, give us some freakin artistry FFS.

Moving to Mars obviously

This logo thing with no name and a date reminds me very much of Arcade Fire's Reflektor build-up hype, when there was the logo tagged everywhere and people were wondering if it was related with AF or not. here's the logo from Reflektor. It wouldn't be the first time Coldplay use something that AF did before. The story/concept of MX seemed very close at the time to AF's "The Suburbs". Hurts Like Heaven was very Arcade Fire-esque and the lyrics of Charlie Brown were pretty evocative ( CB : "Stole a key, took a car downtown where the lost boys meet" / The Suburbs : "In the suburbs I learned to drive and you told me we'd never survive, grab your mother's keys we're leavin' (...) one day we'd fight in a suburban world") And of course there was the desire to experiment with original/forgotten instruments on VLV and a more art rock direction, which was Arcade Fire's thing on first 2 albums. Just 2 years after Chris said AF was "the best band in the world". Coincidence ? I think not.

Yes but that doesn't happen so frequently with big music magasines/webzines, and even rarely when it's about the band and not politics or environment... They (Radiohead) tend not to give a single fuck rather than being openly upset about it ^^ If they start protecting it so much, LP9 better be good :sneaky: (as if I had any doubt about it)

Sorry I'll repost something I already posted (cuz no one answered me... :( ) but I thought this video would belong to this thread perfectly, but I can't find it anymore. It's been filmed during the viva studio sessions, it's a bit long (like 17 minutes or something) and you can see jonny, brian and will playing with an electronic beat at the beginning, it seemed to be a very interesting one but i lost it... could someone remind me the name/give me the link of the video if you have it please ? thank you !
