  1. Chris said the duet was with Tove Lo on fun. My understanding is Beyonce is just the "angel," suggesting a lesser role.
  2. Reasons Coldplay Still Makes Good Music Post-Viva Episodes 1-20 *Moving to Mars* *Us Against the World* *Up with the Birds* *U.F.O.* *O* *Christmas Lights* *Atlas* *Ghost Story* *Major Minus* *Don't Let it Break Your Heart* *Hurts Like Heaven* *All Your Friends* *Charlie Brown* *Every Teardrop is a Waterfall* *Midnight* *Wish I Was Here* *Miracles* *Always in My Head* *Up in Flames* *Amazing Day* The older music undeniably has more consistent quality  but these things tend to be awfully one-sided. It's hard to argue Parchutes/X&Y don't bleed some seriously weak lyrical moments under the surface of our memories. Coldplay's flaws are admittedly much more pronounced now than before. But I believe the Oldplayer label may prove a barrier to enjoying Coldplay's newer music because doing so would fundamentally undermine one's "identity," either internally or on the boards here. That's my psychobabble for the day. Carry on.
  3. My takeaways: -Hymb for the Weekend has a choir, one of the "centerpieces" of the album, Stargate produced. Coldplay had to demo songs before they'd agree to work on them -Fun is a duet he sings together with Tove Lo -Everglow is a ballad -A couple songs in there are two clips, one of a poem by a man from Georgia and one of Pres. Obama singing Amazing Grace; I imagine after the Charleston massacre Definitely more excited for the album after hearing some of these details.
  4. Sounds better than anything I've heard on this new album yet.
  5. He must've wanted to spend some time on surfboarts with the Illuminati while in Malibu ;)
  6. Only two? This might be the most disappointing thing I've heard yet regarding the album. :bigcry: Where did you find this info?

Anyone else seen this? Atlas Project says Beyonce is on this and Hymn for the Weekend. https://www.facebook.com/ColdplayAtlasProject/photos/a.306876239521643.1073741827.306872072855393/452024151673517/?type=3&theater
  8. Does anyone else find it weird that they're describing this song as rocket-fueled and there's a rocket on the album cover?
  9. I'd say I have to agree with this mostly except I'd switch out Amazing Day with True Love and I don't think most of MX is mediocre. I like Amazing Day more than this song.
  10. I don't know what Chris is doing with the lyrics. Slightly better than GS? The music is good- it is. I think I'd like the song better if I hadn't heard the clip, though. It's always hard to reconcile expectations with what you end up hearing. I just feel there are artists who do this "sound" much better, Daft Punk being the obvious example for me. I believe it was Gai who said there's no way for Coldplay to win here and I agree with that- there's such a diverse array of expectations among us fans. It's definitely better than the EDM direction I was afraid of (although some of those titles make me wonder if it's still lurking in the album), but I thought Will's drums foretold of something different. :|
  11. I feel... mislead, by my own expectations, by the clip but perhaps most of all by the title. I can't shake the feeing I'm listening to a more cultural/dynamic Maroon 5 at points. Jonny sounds strikingly like their guitarist's signature short, polished riffs during the verse here and the stronger bass reminds me of them too. I also hear R.A.M. influences in AoaL, with Get Lucky coming to mind. What hurts the most is the superior musical talent present there (so it sounds to me). The latter's instrumentals win out- I prefer the guitar up front and the more disco-esque tune; it's not nearly as jumbled. The strongest feeling I get is one of sounds discordant, out of place. Someone else mentioned the mish-mash of influences- there are definitely genres stepping on one another. I thought from the start it would turn into something rocky, the bass gets really quiet and I think maybe it'll turn into house, somewhere along it gets electronic like there's an EDM bass drop coming and then a sprinkle of a guitar that reminds me a little of Yes, leaving as quickly as it came in. On top of it all are hand claps and deep bass following from Miracles, while "magic" is back without welcome. For such an ambitious title, Chris's lyrics hurt worst of all. I was expecting something prolific or "legendary" (as he says). The title this song deserves is "You Make Me Feel Alive" and Chris sounds nearly as generic here as he does on GS, just with more R&B flair. Overall, it's not too bad, just unoriginal. I'm not entirely sure how to feel about it- I could see it growing on me because of how much I love RAM. But as far as their past influences go, I've never listened to Arcade Fire (among others) and I never felt Radiohead's presence on the first two albums near as strongly as I do with some artists here. While I prefer this a bit to GS, it's at a cost; GS sounded slightly unique. This doesn't at all. Those guitars at the end give me hope but above all this song taught me something; Jonny guitar and "real" drums don't count for much when it sounds as thought they slammed three or four hit songs from prominent artists into one.
  12. In the ~10 years of being a fan I've heard the split rumor so many times. It's the same case as people predicting the end of the world- it will happen, just not anytime soon more than likely. As for if it's attached to an album, it fits the new era designs and even sounds like it has cultural influences just from the clip we've heard. Also, the single design is draped around the rings which are presumably the album cover. I know you said unlikely but just some reassurances. :)
  13. It's hard to extrapolate an entire song from a short clip; ex. the Paradise snippet was downbeat verse with piano and Chris singing; I never expected the chorus that it would build into. :whaaat: This is what I expected the follow up to MX would be but far better. GS was so disappointing to me because when they stripped back the sound, they scrapped Jonny and Will with it. :/ All I know is the three things I value in a Coldplay song are talent, beauty and creativity and I hear all three in spades in this clip. (Knock on wood) :P
  14. Perhaps  But when have you heard real/heavy drums like that in an EDM song? GS's more electronic percussion is what I'd expect for that.
  15. You dont need to be on hard drugs to be creative :P (I take it youre joking)The Midnight video was like that too, very trippy and interesting. This album is supposed to be upbeat and stylistic, not mellow and drab like GS. That second image is so much better suited for what they've told us. With all this space imagery, I'm prayingggg they'll bring back that Pink-Floyd-esque sexness they did on Moving to Mars. :jonny:
  16. I'll be the first to admit I was wrong I didn't think they'd add anything to the cover :laugh3: Coolest damn shiz I've ever seen
  17. Ah. Sad to hear. :| Sounded like a really cool song title. Thank you though.
  18. Someone on Facebook, in response to the Coldplaying post, mentioned an unreleased song called "The Maze" supposedly from one of the two previous eras and a photo depicting a maze poster in Camden Town. http:// https://m.facebook.com/comment/replies/?ctoken=10153720721228624_10153720732763624&count=8&showcount=8&pc=1&ft_ent_identifier=10153720721228624&gfid=AQDoRsQh9tihT_VD Intriguing, to say the least.
  19. It was a tease already, was it not? It randomly showed up somewhere and luckily for us someone from the music industry said it was them. Otherwise it would've been just speculation. They didn't admit it was them until today. Plus we've been waiting for at least a month after Rik suggested the album was done and with knowledge of a music video recorded that we saw but never heard. An iHeart Radio performance with new outfits but no song, a GCF song we have no clue about whether it's a charity song or album track. That's too much teasing as it is :laugh3: I can't see the background being anything but black, otherwise it would mess up the ring colors. Some of them would inevitably be hard to see if there was anything else.
  20. Ahh. Twas the first era/album I was a fan for and the best from what I remember. Fans' opinions seemed much more harmonious then but X&Y seemed like the odd kid out for many. I do hope this album has a lot of cultural influences like Viva did. :)
  21. Better than the 24 hours after the Viva release? :sneaky: Knowing you, I find that hard to believe :P
  22. Twould be amazing. But a sea-change from the 3-4 minute pop structure of GS that's for sure. Ever since Viva the songs have been noticeably shorter.
  23. With the double tracks like Viva? I'm just really encouraged by this. Coldplay have always been unorthodox and deep and this still seems to be the case. The whole theme around GS seemed so generic and uninspired. But this is intense. Chris always has something nerdy to say about these album concepts :)
