  1. To clarify, I don't mean it was the only good song from the era - just the only interesting one musically or stylistically speaking. Although I guess Magic is also somewhat interesting with its drum and bass loop. Coldplay's best songs are often their most experimental - take these for example: Daylight 42 Yes Chinese Sleep Chant Postcards From Far Away Major Minus Don't Let it Break Your Heart Midnight All outside of their comfort zone and IMO all brilliant. Imagine a whole based around these types of music!
  2. Midnight is the only moment of interest in the whole Ghost Stories era IMO, if rock is not what we get then I would LOVE a genuinely experimental electronic album in this vein too.
  3. Only Superstition
  4. It would be great if they were just winding us up this whole time, and it's actually called something like "Oncoming Storm" and it's really dark and heavy...like they knew how a large part of the fandom hated their happy oh-ooooh-ooh-oh songs and said "Hey, let's tell them it's called A Head Full of Dreams and hint its produced by Stargate...and Chris can wear a smiley face hat!" So while we're all here thinking we're going to get Colplay Does Katy Perry, they're all p*sssing themselves reading it....
  5. To be fair that ship sailed looooong ago in the eyes of most. I don't want this album to be their last, and I certainly don't want it to sound like MX, I would however like it to take in a bit of all eras and be an "adequate swan-song" as you say.
  6. 1. Politik 2. The Scientist 3. Clocks 4. Viva la Vida 5. Strawberry Swing 6. Chinese Sleep Chant
  7. Yeah, I'm a massive Oasis fan (and Be Here Now is my favourite album), so I use I Hope, I Think, I Know as a thing as a sort of Oasis in-joke :) thanks :)
  8. Parachutes: Yellow Spies AROBTTH: Politik Clocks X&Y: Til Kingdom Come Fix You Viva la Vida: Viva la Vida Strawberry Swing Prospekts March: Glass of Water Postcards From Far Away Mylo Xyloto: Don't Let it Break Your Heart Up With the Birds Ghost Stories: Midnight O
  9. You can't trust people, people voted for Hitler and like...oh wait ;) Anyway, High Speed.

  15. Nice titles...I'm bored so I'll have a go 1. A Head Full of Dreams 2. Morning Sun 3. The Northern Lights 4. Radio Dial 5. Great Expectations 6. Colour Koded 7. Golden Arrow 8. Our Time Has Come 9. In Starlight 10. Car Kids 11. Neon Sound 12. Tomorrow I expect at least three internet cookies if I get even one right and in the right place.
  16. Nightmares would be a good title, or maybe have half the album called "Dreams" and the other called "Nightmares". Start off with colourful anthems, before getting gradually darker and heavier. Then the last track could be a feel good vaguely prog epic that brings all of Coldplays eras together. Acoustic, rock, space, world, pop, and electronics. Call that "The End (Awakening)". Won't happen of course but nice to think.
  17. Death and All His Friends is one of the best titles ever, with Tomorrow Never Knows and Champagne Supernova. Out of Mylo I only really like Mylo Xyloto, Major Minus, and A Hopeful Transmission. I'm kind of glad I wasn't around for the release of that as I would have thought A Hopeful Transmission was going to be a lot more epic than it was. Viva definitely the best era title-wise. Anyway...about the lead single... I HOPE: What I hope for is really a heavy, yet melodic rock song. Like a Violet Hill that pulls less punches, or a Clocks but with an electric guitar riff instead of piano. I hope for a cool title without stars, birds, love, or any of the schmaltzy clichés they seem to view as deep these days, instead I hope for a spiky, interesting title like Lukas or Bloodless Revolution. I hope for lyrics that display an emotion other than either morose depression-lite or soulless optimism. Like anger, jealously or even better - bitterness. Something dark but confident and makes you feel good. Musically, I just hope it feels like I'm listening to a rock band. I want a cool drum beat, a grooving bass, and maybe some guitar from Jonny that's slightly less The Edge. Finally I hope the video shows the band looking cool as f**k and maybe even with a point to prove. No fireworks, lovers, happy endings, birds, stars, or soppy eye contact with the camera. That what I hope the single will be like. I THINK: On the other hand, I don't think any of this will come true - except I'm sure it'll be very melodic. I think it'll be lightly instrumented, safe but feel good pop. Think Charlie Brown or Lovers in Japan. I think the title will be something like Hope or The Bright Side and the lyrics will be in the same vein as Miracles. I have no doubt the video will feature lots of colour and will probably depict some kind of party or live show interlaced with a happy story about young lovers. Despite how this comes across, I actually think it'll be a pretty good tune. Not Clocks, The Scientist or Politik good, but good. Most of their lead singles are strong regardless of the quality of the album and tend to show a high point of what they're trying to do. Happily, I can't see lp7's being an exception. I KNOW: The only thing I know is that I'm excited. Allez Coldplay, it's never too late to be what you might have been. (Chorus of the single?)
  18. 1. Prospekt's March 2. The Blue Room 3. Safety 4. Brothers and Sisters
  19. I would write "Coldplay Post-2009" on a sheet of paper, screw it up, and then throw it in the bin. Every time I hear this song I just think of a Christian camping group, it sounds like it could have Ned Flanders on backing vocals. Happily I doubt the album will sound like that, but who knows? I've given up being positive or negative at this point, I just want to hear the album and find out if I'm still a Coldplay fan....c'mon lead single, we need you....
  20. Who has ever said rock is shit?
  21. My opinion: Miracles is awful. I don't just want rock Coldplay back, I want good Coldplay back. Y'know - the ones who put Clocks, The Scientist and Politik on one album, rather than having songs like O and Midnight be highlights. They were better at pop-rock than they are at rock-pop and it's hard to take them seriously as a great band when they're releasing songs like True Love, A Sky Full of Stars and Miracles as singles. I'm all for forward thinking and growth, but that doesn't just mean changing styles - it means adding depth, meaning and variety to your work. Just because it sounds different doesn't mean it's a step forward, just because it's similar to what you've done before doesn't make it a step backwards. I don't want AROBTTH, but I want the Coldplay who made it. I guess I just don't want them to actually become all the things they've wrongly been considered in the past - MOR, boring, bland, light-weight soft rockers trying too hard to be something they're not. If stargate are the producers (still a sizeable if at this point) then that's disappointing but hopefully it's just for a song or two and they don't come up with anything like their previous work. At the end of the day Coldplay are still writing the songs, so a classic album is always a possibility. I remain falteringly unconfident.
  22. We! Want! Shoegaze! We! Want! Shoegaze!
  23. Does guitar include the electric guitar?
  24. If lp7s sound were to be derived from one single coldplay song - which one would you like it to be? I'd go for Chinese Sleep Chant, Politik or Square One.
