Fopp closes down its 105 stores Music retailer Fopp has announced it is shutting down its 105 shops, as the firm becomes the latest victim of the slump in CD sales. "It is with great regret that we announce the closure of Fopp," said a spokesman for the company. Fopp said it was profitable and well regarded but had failed to gain support from stakeholders and suppliers. Fopp - known for cheap CDs, DVDs and books - has called in accounting firm Ernst & Young as administrators. Canvas Tears has taken the Contact from a band that I liked and listened to occasionally to a band whose music I really enjoy listening to. The change from their first full length album to their sophomore release is astronomical. The first noticeable difference is the overall production of the album. The sounds are crisper and the whole thing just sounds better. You can definitely tell which artists have influenced the band. While their first album had more of a U2esque sound, this one has more hints of Radiohead, Muse, and Keane. Marc Almond Celebrated singer Annie Lennox has signed up to the Peace One Day Gig to be held at the Royal Albert Hall on Friday 21st September 2007. Supported by Coldplay's Chris Martin, Pop Idol's Simon Fuller and Virgin boss Richard Branson, the Peace One Day Gig aims to promote world peace as part of a wider initiative. Friday's freak storm brought down metal towers, giant speakers and lights at the Heineken Jammin' Festival, as well as trees in the surrounding park. What bands or songs made you go from just liking music to loving it. I'm talking about when you only had a cd or two and listened to them over and over and over again. For me I started off listening to some Christian bands, primarily DC Talk and the Newsboys. And then Our Lady Peace. Soon I started listening to U2 and I just became obsessed and couldn't get enough. Universal Music to buy Sanctuary Struggling UK music group Sanctuary has agreed to a £44.5m takeover by a unit of recording giant Universal Music. They're still going strong after 20 years and have come a long way since the '80s hits (e.g. Kayleigh, Lavender) you might be familiar with. I've seen them several times now (and will be seeing them again in November) and have never been disappointed. Believe me, they are great live, and the tickets shouldn't be too expensive, either. I tried to promote these guys a few years ago on the board but didn't get much response, but they just finished recording their second album and it is much much much better. You can definitely hear a Muse/Keane/Radiohead influence on some of the new tracks. And they are from my hometown and I personally know 3 of the band members which is pretty cool.
