It's confirmed: music is really getting louder by DUNCAN ROBERTSON - More by this author » Last updated at 10:31am on 4th June 2007 Comments (5) Turn that rocket down! The Arctic Monkeys perform live White noise: The Rolling Stones Older generations have always complained that modern rock music is nothing but a monotonous racket. And now recording experts appear to have confirmed they are right - music is getting louder and the sound of some chart-topping albums is so distorted it is making listeners feel sick. Record companies and bands like Oasis are using digital technology to ratchet up the volume on CDs to make a bigger impact on their you…

"Great Melodies. Great Band. Great Voice." Sound of Melodies is the debut record from Leeland, a brand-new Essential Records progressive rock band that's instantly capturing the imagination and hearts of all who hear it. In a short time, Leeland has managed to create a buzz like none other-from MySpace to PureVolume and across the music industry. In San Antonio fans are already purchasing tickets for the concert with Casting Crowns and Leeland, scheduled for September 27. "Leeland is the best thing I have heard in a long, long time," says Grammy Award-winning artist Michael W. Smith. "I can't stop singing the songs in my head. Great melodies. Great band. Great voice…

They had the Arcade Fire's Funeral there on vinyl, and I was going to get it as soon as I had the money. One week later and the store was gone. :( I have an incredibly dim view of the major record labels, and think they deserve what they're getting somewhat if all they do is churn out crap, force it down people's throats, and talk about buying each other…

CD-Wow delivers top 10 albums for as little as £6.99 Online retailer CD-Wow must pay £41m to British record companies after breaking a deal to stop selling illegally imported cheap albums in the UK. The High Court in London ruled in March that the site's owners, Music Trading Online, were "in substantial breach" of a 2004 agreement to stop importing CDs. It has now ordered Hong Kong-based CD-Wow to pay £37m plus interest to the British Phonographic Industry (BPI). CD-Wow says it will continue to sell cheap CDs and may appeal the ruling. "We are the little guys selling CDs to the UK market and they (the BPI) have picked on us for that reason," said chief e…

SANTA MONICA, Calif., May 28 Groundbreaking "Morning Becomes Eclectic" marks 30 years giving independent musicians airtime and providing free-form programming on U.S. public radio. KCRW will celebrate the 30th anniversary of "Morning Becomes Eclectic" on Labor Day with the three music directors from the Santa Monica, Calif.-based pubic radio station. "Music is not a pastime, it is a necessity in my life," says Tom Schnabel, KCRW ' s first music director said in a news release. Schnabel, Chris Douridas and Nic Harcourt introduced independent artists -- such as Nina Simone, Maroon 5, Tom Waits, Beck, Norah Jones and Coldplay -- to a larger audience. "There is a specia…

has anyone heard of these....they are from Japan (i think)...and are a REALLY melodic but rhythmical electronic band...(duo i think actually). i highly recommend them to people who like the sound of that... :) They are pretty percussive, but not just with percussion instruments...with all instruments they use....it's very high quality production on songs too..very clever indeed

It has been, as the Beatles wrote, a long and winding road. But, surely this time the music has stopped for EMI, the record company that signed the Fab Four. For a decade, the group dubbed Every Mistake Imaginable by City analysts, has been sidling up to rivals with a doe-eyed I Want to Hold Your Hand expression. Now it has found Hands to hold in the shape of Guy, the Terra Firma boss who doubles up as the owner of Britain's biggest collection of karaoke songs. Even if his £2.4bn offer fails to whisk EMI off the dance floor, its days as a singleton look numbered. Mr Hands is offering 265p per share and, for keen followers of EMI, the price says much about the music …

Has anyone heard this guy yet? It's my current obsession. Gorgeous layered mellow stuff, full of atmosphere- really dreamy. :nice: Oh, and I guess he ended up working with the producer who works with Sigur Ros, so it's somewhere in that vein, but happier sounding. Check him out if you haven't yet- my favorite songs so far are Don't Fear, It Will Find You, and To the Sky. http://www.myspace.com/mapsmusic www.mapsmusic.com I can't wait for the album to come out in North America- I got so tired of waiting that I ended up burning all the singles off of itunes, and have been playing them constantly for a couple of weeks now. :D
