Ever murdered a classic song by singing it wrongly? Hillarious new book reveals examples Last updated at 00:07am on 15th August 2007 Comments Some of us do it in the shower, while bolder people prefer to have a go in front of an audience - murdering a classic song after mishearing the lyrics. Among the best-known of these pop malapropisms include whether Roy Orbison was lamenting over a slice of meat in his chart topper Only Baloney or whether the Police hit So Lonely was actually a tribute to former Desert Island Discs presenter Sue Lawley. Here's a collection of the most hilarious and mischievous in a new book. . . STAB IN THE LIVER, YOUR MUMMY …

  12. LONDON (Hollywood Today/AFP) 8/1/07 — Music publishing rights to the much of the catalogs shared with the Beatles, Stones, David Bowie, Coldplay and the Spice Girls were bought by private equity firm Terra Firma in a takeover of British music publisher EMI, following a lengthy takeover tussle with US group Warner Music. Terra Firma’s bid valued EMI — which is the world’s third-biggest music company — at $6.5 billion including debt. Publishers generally split lucrative songwriting revenues (not record sales) with artists 50/50 in exchange for administering and promoting the artists’ catalog. For instance, with all the wrangling by living Beatles and various heirs of the…

Thought it was time to post a thread of what in my view is one of the best new bands around at the moment. Polytechnic are an indie-rock band based in Chorlton-cum-Hardy in Manchester, England. The members are Dylan Giles (vocal, guitar); Yuri Caul (bass); Tim Warren (drums); Denny Hilton (guitar); Peet Earnshaw (keyboards, backing vocals) History Originally a two-piece composed of two schoolfriends from Totnes in Devon, vocalist and guitarist Dylan Giles and bassist Yuri Caul, the band was known as The Conversation (named after the 1974 Francis Ford Coppola movie) and had been playing fairly low-key gigs in Manchester for a couple of years until Eastbourne na…

  20. Could Justin Timberlake get any hotter? With his sexually provocative new record, Hollywood girlfriend and confessions of drug taking, the former child entertainer is making his play to be the world's biggest pop star. In an exclusive interview, Camilla Long finds herself seduced Whether or not Justin Timberlake is the sexiest man in music, he's certainly the most elusive. It takes several weeks, hundreds of emails, endless calls to his 'team', aborted trips to Los Angeles (where he lives), Barcelona (where he's filming a video for his new single, 'SexyBack'), and, finally, two trips to Paris to meet the latest prince of pop. The explanations come thick and fast. Spain…

Are free CDs killing music? By Tom Geoghegan BBC News Magazine Prince has sparked an outcry by giving away his new album in the Mail on Sunday. Many weekend newspapers are now sold with a CD or film enclosed. Forget downloads, are free CDs killing music? Freebies fill the newspaper and magazine racks in such abundance it's possible to get kitted out for the summer on this week's pickings. As well as the usual array of DVDs and CDs, there are sunglasses, flip-flops, "designer bangles" and for those looking for a change of image, a superhero Thing face mask. The giveaway, or covermount as it is known in the trade, is now big business, but on Sunday the m…
