Groupies? I'd rather have a cheese and tomato panini - how Status Quo are aging gracefully by LISA SEWARDS - More by this author » Last updated at 11:02am on 14th September 2007 Comments (2) Thousands of denim-clad fans in black sparkly T-shirts, some boasting the mantra Rick's Chicks, are jumping and punching the air while bass guitars are being heavily strummed in the backstage sound-checks. But on the top deck of Status Quo's tour bus, we're enjoying a sophisticated sanctuary, with opera on the iPod and Green and Black's chocolate and mineral water from the bedroom fridge. It's a civilised moment before the band take to the stage. Yet there was a time w…

*Sorry I made a mistake in the thread title : the band is Tiny Masters Of Today* If you don't know them, they're a brother and a sister (13 and 11) from NY, and they make rock music, sounding like the White Stripes. Both play guitars, the boy also plays bass and drums and the girls sings and plays keyboards. They've released 2 EPs (Big Noise and K.I.D.S) and 1 Album (Big Bang Boom Cake) so far. They've been raised away from any TV or videogame stuff, which gave them a certain wisdom, considering their young age. So they write politically or culturally engaged lyrics, like the anti-Bush song "Bushy". I've heard David Bowie stated that he loves them, but I'm …

Saw this article on the bbc news magazine, and though it would be good to post it: Discord over guitar sites By Jonathan Duffy BBC News Magazine With the fight against illegal downloading of songs starting to pay off, the music business has set its sights on a new enemy on the internet - websites which transcribe pop songs into musical notation. The guitar may be enjoying a comeback among schoolboys and dad rockers alike, but beginners hoping to strum along with their favourite bands are finding dissonance online. Having seen off some of the biggest networks that enabled free downloading of songs over the net, the music business is now calling the tune for …

I advise you all to listen to these guys free of charge via their website.. these are 4 young lads from the Chicago area.. and they have recently been signed to Capitol Records.. their 2nd album is due out this June.. and I think once you hear them.. you'll be a fan as well. They started out as a Beatle's cover band.. and are heavily inspired buy the Liverpol quartet.. but they come off with a style all their own.. I enjoyed the show.. they are great live.. but check out the site.. and the album. Hope you like! ;) http://www.theredwalls.com/ -click on sounds... and it'll take you to the album 'Universal Blues' on a personal note.. #07 is my personal fave.. tha…

This is something that is pretty cool on another board I'm at... I guess it's also on Livejournal, I thought I'd give it a spin here and see if anyone wanted to do it: 'Directions: on your current playlist, hit shuffle and pick the first ten songs on the list (no matter how cheesy or embarrassing). Write down your favorite line of the song. Try to avoid putting the song title in the line. Then, have your friends comment and see if they know the songs. Please avoid cheating' It doesn't have to be from your playlist, considering some might not have one. Just do your ten current songs, if you want to try it.

So it's the 1st July, and the start of the 2nd half of the year, so what has been your top 3/5/8/10/15/22 (etc) albums of the year so far? Simple rules is that it had to be released between the 1st January and 30th June 2007, and no compilations/re-issues/EPs. Officially released live albums are okay.

The Rumble Strips are an English band from Tavistock, Devon. The band take their name from Rumble Strips, which are small, continuous lines of bumps along the edge of a road. Having known each other since childhood, a precise conception date for the band doesn't really exist. The current line-up has been together since 2004 and are now based in London. The band are currently signed to Fallout Records, a subsidiary of Universal Island Records. Their most recent single, a re-release of "Motorcycle", reached #46 in the UK Singles Chart on 4 June 2007. How the internet can make you a pop star for almost nothing By RHORDRI MARSDEN - More by this author » Last updated at 00:58am on 4th September 2007 Comments He's bespectacled, paunchyand balding - but he's no Elton John. Here,a musical wannabe chronicles howhe became a worldwide pop phenomenon - for less than the cost of a bunch of Elton's flowers As A teenager in the late Eighties, I believed that anyone who wanted it badly enough could be a rock 'n' roll star. Punk had shaken the world, and John Peel's show on Radio 1 seemed to offer nightly proof that all you needed to hit the heights were a little bit of imagination, a modicum of energy and a load o…

It wasn't just the royal family that was damaged by Diana's death 10 years ago; it also marked the beginning of the end for alternative music. I was really looking forward to Monday, September 1, 1997. Xfm, a radio station devoted to "alternative music" was due to begin its first day of unrestricted broadcasting in London. One of the key DJs was to be Gary Crowley who, before jumping ship from GLR, had made very encouraging noises about a band I was helping to manage. At the very least, a good dose of snotty-nosed feedback was just what we needed after the banal platitudes that had marked the media's output the previous day. Here at least we'd be able to avoid any hi…

Kebab rapper stuns France FOR months, kebab vendor Lil'Maaz amused clients with an improvised rap on the merits of his greasy snack. Now, the 27-year-old has a contract with record label EMI and thousands in France know his "Kebab rap". Slicing chunks of meat from a giant spit, Lil'Maaz, whose real name is Yilmaz Karaman, says his rapid ascent from a snack bar in northern Paris into French record stores and internet stardom started off with a joke. "I just did it for a laugh," he said from behind a counter displaying salads, tomatoes, onions and hot sauce. He explained how he would break into spontaneous song when clients ordered a kebab, but then the emplo…
