It's baboon versus human in a string of wealthy ocean-front communities 30 minutes from the trendy center of Cape Town, a top tourist destination. Jenni Trethowan is among those trying to defuse the conflict raging along the picket fences between suburbia and the r…

Hard-core conservatives fleeing Bush’s side Concerns over spending, immigration policy running high, experts say NEWS ANALYSIS By Jim VandeHei and Peter Baker The Washington Post Updated: 1:00 a.m. ET May 11, 2006 WASHINGTON - Disaffection over spending and immigration have caused conservatives to take flight from President Bush and the Republican Congress at a rapid pace in recent weeks, sending Bush's approval ratings to record lows and presenting a new threat to the GOP's 12-year reign on Capitol Hill, according to White House officials, lawmakers and new polling data. Bush and Congress have suffered a decline in support from almost every part of the cons…

The British Museum is to be the setting for a television gameshow based on its galleries and collections. Codex, due on Channel 4 this winter, will be presented by Time Team host and Blackadder actor Tony Robinson. Contestants will use the museum's artefacts to break a code while "locked" in the building overnight. "It seemed such a brilliant place to play a game and at the same time to decipher the past," the show's creator Justin Scroggie told BBC News website. "It has such a completely different atmosphere when everyone has gone home and your voice echoes down 2,000 rooms," he said. Vast collection Codex will feature some of the most famous items …

Zogby Poll: Over 70 Million American Adults Support New 9/11 Investigation PRWEB | May 23 2006 Although the Bush administration continues to exploit September 11 to justify domestic spying, unprecedented spending and a permanent state of war, a new Zogby poll reveals that less than half of the American public trusts the official 9/11 story or believes the attacks were adequately investigated. 911Truth.org Urges 2006 Reform Candidates to Recognize a Powerful New Constituency The poll is the first scientific survey of Americans' belief in a 9/11 cover up or the need to investigate possible US government complicity, and was commissioned to inform deliberations at…

Interesting article.....it covers both sides of this particular issue and is worth reading. It deals with (what I had also though about before) the "honey trap" that might be emerging from the government too. http://www.prisonplanet.com/articles/may2006/230506doesntfly.htm

I did a search for this show in the forum and nothing came up so I decided to make one myself. I'm kind of obsessed with this show. I have no idea why. Whenever it's on, I'll watch it. Even if I've seen the episode multiple times. I find the family very engaging. For those of you who don't know what it is, it's basically a 'reality show' of sorts, that follows the lives of the Roloff family. The parents are 'little people' and they have 4 kids, and only one is a little person like them. It's on TLC. I like TLC shows, well most of them....

Germany welcomes wild bear return Wild bears once roamed widely across much of Europe A wild bear is roaming the German countryside for the first time since 1835, police in the Bavarian Alps say. Seven sheep carcasses were found in Garmisch-Partenkirchen on Sunday, confirming the bear had entered Germany across the nearby Austrian border. The bear was last spotted on Thursday in a border area in Austria after destroying a beehive. The region's environment minister said the bear was "welcome in Bavaria" and told people they had nothing to fear. Austrian wildlife experts who have been following the bear's movements said it was unlikely to approach humans. …

Nice to see you, possum For Dame Edna Everage, meeting Prince William was a chance to spend at least a few moments with a young man of some considerable personal charm. She had, after all, had to devote the best part of her evening to the garrulous X-Factor reject Chico Slimani. Dame Edna appeared almost relieved as she met William backstage after the Prince's Trust Live concert on Saturday. "Hello sir, darling. I'm on a blind date you know," she said. Prince Charming: Dame Edna meets Prince William. She confided she was on a blind date with former X-Factor contestant Chico "So whose the lucky man?" he asked. "That fellow there... Chico," said Dame Edna and g…

Four year olds to face 'fat tests' at school Children are to be weighed at the ages of four and ten and their parents warned if they are too fat. The school screening regime is aimed at fighting the obesity epidemic which threatens a generation of youngsters with a lifetime of ill-health. But the plan triggered angry claims that the Government is trying to dictate the size of children. Critics dismissed the weigh-in scheme as misguided, costly, bureaucratic and a dramatic extension of the 'nanny state'. They said pupils branded overweight could be stigmatised and bullied. Under the programme, children will be weighed and measured as they start primary sch…

World Cup fails to fan US football fever With football's World Cup just weeks away, the BBC's Jamie Coomarasamy visits a Major League Soccer match in Washington DC, to find out if footie fever has struck in a country where "football" is played by men in shoulder pads and helmets. Advertisers are trying to drum up interest in Team USA As the minutes ticked towards kick-off at the top-of-the-table clash between DC United and the Kansas City Wizards, the atmosphere at the RFK Stadium was closer to that of a school fete than that of any professional football game I have ever attended. On the forecourt outside the pitch, there was a collection of small inflatable f…

Posted May 18th 2006 12:31PM by Martha Fischer Just a day after we reported on censorship in other parts of the world (assuming, perhaps, that films in the US escape such restrictions) comes the news that American authorities are getting into the act, as well. Fan-freaking-tastic. According to press reports, the MPAA has objected to the poster that Roadside Attractions was planning to use to promote their American release of The Road to Guantanamo. The original poster depicts a prisoner hanging from chained wrists, with a burlap bag over his head -- nothing more, said Roadside president Howard Cohen, than a reflection of "what it is we are doing to people in Guantana…

Failed by their parents Parents are sending children to class tired, scruffy and unfit to learn, the chief inspector of schools has said. In an unprecedented attack, Maurice Smith said many were shirking their responsibility to prepare youngsters properly. They allow them to stay up late watching television and playing computer games, leaving pupils so lethargic in the morning they are unable to concentrate. Some are so poorly fed they are forced to resort to the sweet shop on the way into school for a "substitute breakfast". Mr Smith said parents must ensure pupils behave and work hard in lessons. Youngsters must realise school is not a "house of fun" wher…

Campaigners have accused Channel 4's Big Brother of exploiting a man with Tourette Syndrome by accepting him as one of this year's housemates. Pete Bennett, 24, who lives in Brighton, has a severe form of the condition and swears uncontrollably. Roy Hillard, of the Tourette Association, said Pete could suffer in the house, and parents were concerned their children could be mocked. But Channel 4 said Pete's inclusion could educate people about Tourette's. Pete was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome when he was 14, and admits he had a difficult time growing up with the condition. The aspiring rock singer has said that one of the things he wants to achieve by…

there's a lot of articles about this, but here's one http://www.fox21.com/Global/story.asp?S=4914714&nav=2KPp Uhm.... wow. How is supposed to "quiet down" conspiracy theorists? The footage is pretty much exaaaacctlly the same as the ones conspiracy theorists used to show that... from the footage you can't see a plane. At all. The "nose" of the plane they're talking about in the released video is wayyyyy to skinny to be of a commercial jet. Commercial jets have shorter, rounded noses. (haha, that sounds funny)...........anyways... It's either a small jet, NOT a commercial jet, or a missile. Whattevaaaa....
