Hm...I ordered both "The Soft Bulletin" and "At War With the Mystics" by The Flaming Lips from amazon.com last year in the same order a bit after the release of AWWTM. Not sure which one I listened to first. By the way, not sure if this offer is to everyone, as I have ordered a moderate amount of items from amazon.com over the past year, year and a half, and one can get a trial Amazon Prime membership for a month (FREE shipping).

Anyways, not really sure how Interpol came into my listening rotation as of late, but I really enjoy their singles, especially "Obstacle 1", and remember enjoying it when it came out years ago. I think it is partially the ambiguity of their track titles that has deterred me from purchasing their first album. One track titled "Obstacle 1" and another "Obstacle 2"??? I also recognize "Slow Hands" as being a song on the radio, but the local alternative rock station didn't seem to keep the song in their rotation that long and I don't hear them play much Interpol overall.

I like their songs, but if there is one weak spot, it is the lyrics, overall. They can be hard to understand and even when I understand them...I don't at times (in terms of them making sense) and the rhythm when singing can be repetitive and monotone at times. The lyrics do compliment the music, and don't detract much, if at all in most cases, in my opinion, but I'm sure some feel that it does and thus may be a reason for a lack of mass appeal on the radio per say (at least around here in Michigan), but I feel the lyrics could use improvement, at the very least, in their singles.

I referenced my purchasing of the Flaming Lips, because they have a new album coming out, and I'm thinking I should buy just one album if any (unlike ordering two FLips CD's at once), and am thinking probably their first.

Also, are they much more popular in the U.K.? Their new album is coming out first in the U.K., albeit by one day. Is Monday the day that new albums are released to the public in the U.K.? What gives? They are supposedly from the U.S. (NYC).

I just downloaded Turn On The Bright Lights this morning.

I’m listening to it right now and I like what I’ve heard so far. :nice:

I’m new to Interpol, so forgive me for the questions.

How many albums have they released and where are they originally from?

Thank you! :)

thats the beauty of Paul Banks lyrics. He's very metaphorical and subliminal in his lyrics. Not so plain to the eye...... I like that about his music. You can never really know what a song is truly about because everyone interpets the lyrics differently.. and thats what he likes. You'll never see the lyrics posted accurately...because thats the way Paul likes it. :) At least thats how its been before... I hope they maintain it that way on Capitol. As for UK release dates..... thats the way the British market works I suppose. Ususally bands try to break the UK scene first... then come over to the US- worked for the Killers..... :P not that they even compare.. but, you get my point? It doesn't matter that they are from NY or not.... breaking the UK scene first is important in their success.... and they were bigger in the UK than they were here..... look at all the festivals they're doing over there this summer! :( I am so jealous.

:) no the album has leaked... and if and when it does, I won't be d/ing it....... I heard enough on live gigs to wet my palette... and can wait. :)

Well, everyone I know says Inter-pol. Sounds like doll.

Although I am speaking English English and I'm from the north-east...so.

But the band say Inter'pole'....because well, they are American - and I'm not.

Thanks, that cleared it up!

I miss the red, black and white thing and the wee square thing beside the "interpol" that was on the past record covers, its seemed kinda signature. Its a weird cover, and slightly scary.

But hey a new album, i aint complaining!

its still the Interpol.... :P and I think its kinds nice for the oldie fans to have something to look back upon, that no one else will understand. :) I'm till getting my tattoo of the old logo because of its special meaning.... I'm just glad that people will still have to ask what it means.. and not know right off the bat that its Interpol.... :)

In the U.K. 99.9% of all new releases come out on Mondays, in America most releases come out Tuesdays. It's just the way it is.

And didn't you know if you spent more than £15 on amazon, you get free shipping.
