no Travis are so 90s

their music is too good to ignore just because they bloomed in the late nineties.

Yeah! All the new songs are great!

They just announced a gig in Amsterdam.

I'm there!! :D

any tour list?

They were good on top gear of the pops last night.

Travis Back With New Single - Closer

A widescreen sweep of emotive and melodic indie rock - 'Closer' the new single from Travis is available for download from the 9th April and goes on general release on April 23rd 2007.

The lead single from their forthcoming album The Boy With No Name, 'Closer' is the song says Fran "which bred the rest of the album"; an arena sized sound that can still whisper its secrets into the ear of each listener.

Available for download, on CD single and 7" vinyl, with track listing details as follows:

CD (digipack) Closer / The Day Today / Closer - video

7" Part 1 (Gatefold) Closer / The Great Unknown

7" Part 2 (single bag) Closer / This Love

Travis have just returned from filming the promotional video in Los Angeles. Set in a supermarket, with each band member playing a store employee, Fran - clad in a bear suit as the store's mascot - breaks into song, shoppers and their trolleys engage in a synchronised dance routine and drummer Neil dances across the aisles with a customer, until the store's manager - played by long standing Travis fan Ben Stiller - breaks up the fun.

Three years on from their last outing 12 Memories, the imminent release of their new album has brought with it a palpable excitement in the Travis camp and a genuine enthusiasm for a return to the road. Having long been regarded as the trailblazers for the emotionally engaging pop anthem, they've clearly re-discovered what made us love them in the first place.

A belting collection of bittersweet pop songs from the band Chris Martin says, "invented" Coldplay, The Boy With No Name was produced by Travis and Nigel Godrich, and will be released on Independiente on 7th May.

"Song for song, I honestly think it's stronger than anything we've done", says Dougie Payne. "Frannie just seemed to be completely inspired"

Scots boys Travis in London

0,,2007130865,00.jpg

AFTER more than three years shying away from the spotlight, Scottish boys TRAVIS are back.

The quartet - famed for hits Turn, Driftwood and Flowers in the Window - played to a packed house at London’s Koko, giving fans a taste of what’s next in store for the indie rockers.

And although FRAN HEALY and co do what they do well, there was little in the way of progress or new direction.

Classic tunes like Sing and encore choice Why Does It Always Rain On Me went down a treat, while new single Closer was also met with a generous helping of fan admiration.

But there’s just something about this band that you can’t quite sink your teeth into and feel passionate about.

Their familiarity is somewhat dreary, and when Fran shouts: "It's good to be back!" it's hard to share his joy.

Just as Ray Quinn is likely to be your gran’s favourite, a Travis CD would sit nicely in the middle of your mum’s collection.

With such fierce competition from similar bands like Coldplay and Keane, these Brit winners should step up their game and try something quirkier.

Their new songs didn’t offer anything we haven’t heard before.

Their catchy melodies and sing-along choruses may strike a chord with current fans, but it’s yet to be seen whether they’ll entice any new ones on board.

Me too.

Excited about the new album and really hoping the consider coming here to NZ when they next go on a big tour, which shouldn't be too far away.

Well, the new stuff is definitely better than most of 12 Memories, so that's good.

I don't think they will become anywhere near as popular again as they were back in 1999/2000, but the new album really should be heard by many, many people. They deserve it. Travis have still 'got it'.

12 Memories wasn't as good as The Man Who or The Invisible Band, but there were still some good songs to come out of it.

Of the new stuff, I especially like Closer and My Eyes so far, both sound like a return to The Invisible Band days. Great stuff.

^^ I think the same. 12 Memories isn't my favorite album. But I really like Mid-life Crysis, The Beautiful Occupation and Love Will Come Through
