ugh...i have no idea why they're trying to make a different version...apart from Ricky Gervais cashing in!, ha. There's no chance they can make it as good as the British version, and what's the problem with them just watching the origial version anyway....i know a few people who have bought the dvds who live in America, and love it :/

The Office is excellent!!

exactly!! Why do Americans torture themselves trying to copy a great British original!! When will they learn..... its not going to be funny... *shakes head*

My boyfriend and his roommate have The Office DVDs and it is damn funny.

i know, nothing will come close to the original, but it will be something to watch. before it gets cancelled...

it's on this thursday

i'm hoping it will be good *crosses fingers*

Whatever happened to Steve Martin starring in the american version of Father Ted?

Now THAT would have been disastrous, this looks pretty bad but from the clips Ive just watched it could be worse.

If you'll remember, The Office English version wasnt supposed to be successful in America, it was put on a fairly low scale time slot with very little promotion but the american people who watched it absolutely loved it. And then it got more popular, won a Golden Globe and got even more popular.

They intended to write an American version, this was before the original became successful, to transplant the funny to Americans  but now it just seems pointless as many americans love the original.

Thats toolish.

i agree...i saw a little clip of it on Sky News, and i can't imagine me ever wanting to watch a full episode...The original Office is near perfection, the guy just looked like he was doing really awful impressions of Ricky Gervais, and couldn't pull it off. He didn't seem to GET him.. :/

it's going to be different humour. the guy who is playing gervais' character is Steve Carrell and he is a hilarious man who got his start on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, so i'm going to give him a bit of credit and it may be a bit funny for american standards. we shall see.

the office is genius and it can't and shouldn't be copied! you're just losing the whole essence of it all if you do :dozey:

If you have a decent computer, go to the link in the title post of this thread and look at the trailers. Everything is off, the timing, the movements, it fails to capture any essence and it looks like a bunch of actors who are making distinct movements, if the original Office was done like this it would be awful.

And Steve Carrell is used to doing Big Brassy American humour, that has nothing to do with the art of being subtle. Hes all wrong for this.

Hes the kinda guy who can go out and loudly make you laugh in his own way, Ricky Gervais (As a person) is kinda funny in this weird way, he has a distinct sense of humour.

I am not sure if anyone remembers but nbc had a version of coupling for like 4 weeks, i watched the first 5 minutes and couldnt stand it, there is no way they are gonna pull of the office, pure rubbish.

i heard that as well actually! same with as if, but you can't beat the originals, coupling is sooooooo funny! but in a very british way :P

I don't think an American audience can handle how slow it moves. I thought it was pretty good. But I've never seen the BBC version, so I can't really compare it.

First episode's been taped and must watch it. Will give opinion after viewing. :D

Ok, saw it. The boss was really weird. I've seen a few of the real office episodes and they were really weird/gave you this uncomfortable feeling.

The american version is alright. Nothing special.

The only part I laughed at was at the preview for the next show. "Now she knows what's it like to be a minority!" (after the lady slaps his face)

Nooo that bit was baaad. (Ive seen 13 mins of the minority episode here) the fact the woman slapped him, and the impression he was doing was just too damn obvious.

Its sitcom humour, the very thing the Office was trying to avoid, and its awfully bad.

 that's american humor for ya :D :wink3: insanely obvious

were the uk episodes of the office shown in the USA?

were the uk episodes of the office shown in the USA?
