U2

Featured Replies

I think its unfortunate U2 has no great fansites devoted to it. The best I've found is atu2.com, and its less than stellar. There are no equivalents to coldplaying. U2 deserve one, but alas.

I'm a regular poster on Interference, but ppl on there are really rude :(:(:(:(

Anywho, NEW VID ON U2.COM: MAKING OF FATHER CHRISTMAS

It will be interesting to see which and if any elements of the beach clips will pop up on the new album.

There was one song on there I really liked, can't remember the name of it.

And the problem with the main U2 site is that to get anything decent you needed to become a member of their fan-club at $45 a year. (well it used to be, so unless they have given away more stuff for free now)

For the price of the membership, you don't get much out of it. It's disappointing

Its bigger than this place.

Yeah, I've been on there a few times, but all they talk about is things like how great Bono looks in leather pants etc. Not missing out on much :P

Like this forum I tend to hang out in other sections other than the main one for the band.

Really, that's a shame. I have been a long time member there since 2001.

and if you want to know anything and everything that site has it first.. before sucky u2.com which I detest but am a member because of the presales. They are the last to report anything relevant you have to go to atu2.com or interference.com to know what's going on. IMO

I hate it when you have to pay to get pre-sale links.

I'm a strong supporter of the ballot style system, giving everybody a fair chance at getting tickets.

^Really? You're a long time poster? Whats ur name on there?

I'm still on the fence about joining, I mean...pres-sales, how good are the seats? Is it really worth it?

If there are pre-sales I will probably join.

Last year I couldn't get any tickets through ticketbastard.com I mean ticketmaster.com.....I had to buy tix through people online.

I would rather pay the $40 and skip out on that headache.

for the last tour the presales worked out for me I got what I wanted which was GA tickets. It was madness though. Now that live nation is going to be involved with this next tour I am not sure how it's going to go. I think it's worth it to join for this reason only. With the fiasco with the last presales which they remedied later on, second try for those who got screwed etc. I am sure they are going to look out for the fans and hopefully find some way to keep the scalpers out of it as much as they can.. We'll have to wait and see..

I know they sent out an email regarding those whose subscriptions were coming up to renew that they were going to extend them until after the relaunch of u2.com for the new album.

My name on interference is : u2fanatic4ever

and this bit of news came in from a poster who got an early subscription of Q magazine, this what he posted over at interference.com

Just got my subscriber edition through of the latest Q magazine and it has 4 seperate interviews with each of the band, spread over 28 pages.

The 11 tracks to date are as follows:

Stand Up

Rousing groove-based rocker with shades of Led Zep and Cream

Magnificent

Slow building anthem.......Edge at his most dynamic........"Only love can rest your mind"

Get on Your Boots

Demented electro grunge with rock and roll riff and a hip-hop twist ind the middle.........."I dont wanna talk about war between nations"

Momement of Surrender

Gorgeusly melodic............this album's One............U2 Classic.............."I did not notice the passers by/And they did not notice me". Recorded in one take.

Unknown Caller

About a man "at the end of his rope" whose phone bizarrely begins texting him random insructions.........."Reboot yourself, Password enter here, Youre free to go!"

No Line on the Horizon

Abrasive punk..........few versions hanging around.............its the buzzcocks meets Bow Wow Wow!

Crazy Tonight

Upbeat 60's pop track era of Phil Spector..........."I'll go crazy I dont go crazy tonight" Sounds like a slogan for a tour T shirt!!!

Every Breaking Wave

With or Without You style building up layers of guitar over electroncially enhance verses............Key line "Every Sailor knows that the Sea/Is a friend made enemy"

Breathe

Arabic cello gives way to joyful chorus. Bran Eno says this is U2's best ever song.

Winter

6 minute ballad. Acoustic string laden ballad about a soldier in the snow in Afganistan. Will appear in the new film 'Brothers' starring Tobey Maguire.

Cedars of Lebanon

In the style of a war correspondent lyric from Bono.............end with "Choose your enemies carefully cos they will define you"

Bono did also mention a track about Tripoli but not sure if its on the album..............tomm much stuff to write now so hope this wets your appetites till its out in the shops!!!

Cracking piece from Q!!!

"Cracking piece" + "Q"

in the same sentence :o

(Dig at Q, not U2)

I was sort of hoping Mercy would show up in some shape or form....mabye it will when we get to listen to it...who knows?

wow! this is scintillating. I love how this seems like a really daring change from the cleanness of HTDATB (for better or worse). 'unknown caller' is really intriguing because they don't mention the music itself, so I'm really curious how an odd story like that will be played out.

Oh man, all those new songs sound like they are gonna be interesting... March can't come soon enough!

Mercy is a great song.

^some of the greatest U2 lyrics out there.

I just got How to Dismantle An Atomic Bomb for Christmas and I'm listening to it.

Slight traces of Joshua Tree here and there, City of Blinding Lights is fantastic. Pretty good album so far.

I'm really worried about U2's next album, really. :\

I've been a huge U2 fan for years, based on the band's work during the 1980s and 2000s. The atmospheric rock and roll that they invented with the support of Eno and Lanois is the reason that U2 is just beside Coldplay in my iTunes library.

However, in my opinion, the 90s were a different story. I hated their flirtation with techno and dance during the 1990s, with the only track I've ever loved from the decade being "One." When "All You Can't Leave Behind" and "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb" were released, I was much more relieved. U2 returned to their traditional style; "Beautiful Day," "City of Blinding Lights," "Vertigo," "Miracle Drug" and "Original of The Species" brought me back to the amazing arena rock that I enjoyed with their earlier albums like "The Unforgettable Fire" and "The Joshua Tree."

I just hope "No Line on the Horizon" isn't going to be a dud. Not really trying to be pessimistic, but with all the talk going around that the album is going to be even more experimental than "Achtung Baby" isn't a good sign for classic U2 fans like me. The thought of No Line on The Horizon having trance influences is reassuring (they've unknowingly been influenced by this straight from the beginning of their career with their sweeping sonic landscapes and The Edge's echoing guitars; see "New Year's Day," "Where the Streets Have No Name," Beautiful Day, and City of Blinding Lights) but what we've seen from the 1990s with their rock heavily mixed with electronic....I just really dunno.

But remember that "the unforgettable fire" and "Joshua Tree" also had a good degree of experimentation themselves, the difference is just in the way it's directed. Bono insists it sounds like nothing they've done before, and my intuition says that, if anything, it'll run farther away from zooropa and pop.

Yeah, if No Line on the Horizon at least stays on the boundaries of their experimentation that they did in the 80s (which was then brought back in the 00s albums), then hopefully it will be a nice album. Just gotta keep my fingers crossed. :earmuffs:

You didn't like Achtung Baby!?

Fair enough. I just think it's a shame that's all. Achtung Baby is a classic album. U2 changing their whole style around after the success of Joshua Tree ..and making something to this standard is rare and amazing. A really brave move on their part that worked out exceedingly well.

This description from Q seems really promising!! I'm really excited about this album!! March, please come quick!!
