U2

Featured Replies

I never heard any of the singles except Vertigo here in the States, so singles really mean nothing to me. Then again, I only listen to the local classic rock station whenever I do put on the radio. But the few times I have put on the popular music station I've heard Coldplay singles more than U2 ones. Dunno why.

Ok. If U2 could go into the studio after Japan (which I highly, highly, HIGHLY doubt because I'm a pessimist) they should make a quick and brilliant album like Zooropa. No drawn out productions, no huge gaps. Then come back.

Because I miss them already AND IT'S ONLY BEEN A WEEK!

The second disc is ok. The documentary is fun, but it's only a half hour long. You could probably live without it. I haven't really watched the surveillance cuts, they were grainy (well, obviously) and kinda boring.

If you don't really care about those things, just get the regular one. The concert is really all you need.

Good to know, An Cat. I'm on a tight budget, so I think I'll just get the single-disc.

If I had it to do over (and if I weren't such an obsessive person) I'd have just gotten the first disc. Frankly, I've only watched the second once or twice.

It was only 11 bucks at Target a couple weeks ago, but nooo I just had to go over to Strawberries and fork out all my money for the "special edition"

An_cat you're not alone, I'm trying to find a place with the cheapest price but I MUST have the two discs release   or maybe someone will make a very welcome Christmas gift

*thinks*...or maybe not...ok I'll buy it by myself :D

my favs on htdaab are miracle drug, yahweh and oots. theyre so great. i will get the dvd for christmas. really great

Also, they don't come off as pretentious...which is a HUGE plus.

what might you be implying with this statement?

I have a lot of respect for U2 they are the veterans out of the three. There music is inspiring and beautiful. Not to much to say for them since I don't own not one album. Bono voice is hard and edgey to me. I haven't really heard him sing soft. What U2 album would you recommend?

Whoa, I just saw this. Have you ever heard With Or Without You? :stunned: His voice is so soothing, so powerful and so... sexy in that one song alone.

Love Is Blindness from Achtung Baby also pops into my mind as a song where his voice is incredibly "soft". I dare anyone to listen to that song and tell me it's anything but beautiful. It made me love U2. And that is saying something. The only thing edgy and hard about that song is Edge's guitar solo.

It's easy to get the wrong perception of U2 (and Bono's vocal style) by just listening to their single releases. Every song of their's is not Vertigo, nor is it Beautiful Day (or even Where The Streets Have No Name).

If you are looking for an album recommendation I'd have to say listen to The Joshua Tree (of course, and I can't believe everyone HASN'T given this album a listen at least once in their life). And, perhaps, The Unforgettable Fire (listen to Bad and check out Bono's voice on that, amazing, I love it. The same goes for MLK, which is absolutely beautiful). I'd like to just tell you to go get them all,  Also, check out Achtung Baby. Brilliant.

Hope this helps you (and anyone else, for that matter) out. I'm always on the look out for maybe swaying some people towards U2. ;)

As for the thread topic, I'd rather not partake in this one. Three of my favorite bands and ranking them is just pointless, to me at least.

1) Coldplay

2) U2

3) Radiohead

I really like first two, specially Coldplay but have to say I'm totally ignorant about Radiohead's music, haven't taken the time to discover and explore their music ways but I think I might, someday...

I know this is random, but I can't help it. I'm absolutely in LOVE with the song 'One Tree Hill'. The lyrics are beautiful...

"One Tree Hill"

We turn away to face the cold, enduring chill

As the day begs the night for mercy

Your sun so bright it leaves no shadows, only scars

Carved into stone on the face of earth

The moon is up over One Tree Hill

We see the sun go down in your eyes

You ran like a river oh, to the sea

You run like a river runs to the sea

And in our world a heart of darkness

A firezone where poets speak their hearts

Then bleed for it

Jara sang his song a weapon

In the hands of love

You know his blood still cries from the ground

It runs like a river, runs to the sea

It runs like a river to the sea

I don't believe in painted roses or bleeding hearts

While bullets rape the night of the merciful

I'll see you again when the stars fall from the sky

And the moon has turned red over One Tree Hill

We run like a river to the sea, run to the sea

We run like a river to the sea

And when it's raining, raining hard

That's when the rain will break my heart

Raining, raining hard, raining in your heart

Raining, rain into your heart, raining

Oh great ocean, oh great sea

Run to the ocean, run to the sea

I'd pass out cold if I ever saw them perform this live, especially in New Zealand. I'm expecting some major MP3 action of those concerts!!

I've noticed how a lot of great bands have very overrated, hugely popular albums. For example, and I KNOW people would hate me for saying this, but I feel that The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper is SLIGHTLY overrated (of course, considering the time period in which it was released, etc etc, it was genius). However, I think other albums of theirs were much better...

Listening to Joshua Tree, however, I think that this album deserves every ounce of the compliments it recieves. Amazing lyrics, Bono's voice was incredible (just the sheer range, and the control he maintained) and musically it's astounding. Or so I feel, at the moment

Just thought I should get that out of my system :P

really great song ... there was a snippet played on this tour I think in Oakland 11/8/05 , maybe a full version will pop up for the Aussie / Kiwi shows :wink3:

*prays the to setlist gods for a full version of One Tree Hill*

I'll have to go look for an MP3 of that snippet.

I love One Tree Hill as well.

i cant believe i saw them like two months ago and i can still remember the concert so vividly. :stunned:

gosh, it was such an awesome night.

I can still remember SMELLS from my October show. That's very believable to me

I kept having flashbacks today to my concert 2 weeks ago. I miss them so much... I mean, it was basically a year that I had of knowing that no matter what, I'd be seeing U2 soon. Now that that's over, I feel kind of sad. I definately became too addicted to the euphoria of a U2 show!!

yeah that was such an insanely kickass experience especially since i was so close. im gonna try to go to all their shows next time theyre back in my area.. hopefully i'll have money by then :D

i always cant wait to see a concert and when its over its like.. it went by too fast.. and then i get sad. which is why i try to take a bazillion pictures. but taking too pictures also takes away from actually EXPERIENCING the concert itself. what im saying is.. i wish my eyes could take pictures/videos for me.

great i sound crazy. whatever. U2 is awesome.

i h8 these threads.

why must we choose? MUSIC RAWKS. :)

Bono along with Bill and Melinda Gates have been named the People of the Year by Time magazine.

*victory whoop* Good for Bono!!! This got my day off to a great start!

EDIT: Here's the article on B:

EDIT AGAIN.

Nevermind. It's only for Time subscribers. Ughhh. That's completely unfair. I think this is on newstands tomorrow, I'll have to pick it up.

Yep I've seen the news this mornig...well done Bono, always the best

Hi, I am happy to see U2 appreciated here. I love Coldplay but Bono and his crew have rocked my world since the eighties and have never ever weakened.

They are the only band in the world to have achived such consistency over such long time without EVER deriving or following fashions. Fashions come and go, these guys are just made of solid rock. They are wholesome, honest and true, and still enjoy what they are doing.

I can't believe I have NEVER seen them live !?

Something has gone wrong for me, somewhere...

OMG..I can't believe it :stunned: ...I've just seen Vertigo right from the U2 Communication double promotional CD sent to those who renew their u2.com subscription....it's unbelievable...it's taken from the forthcoming Milan DVD, and I really can't believe I was there :stunned: :stunned:

We are all jumping and singing :D :D

I want that DVD sooooo bad :bigcry: ..I know I'm gonna cry this evening when I will watch it with the audio (I've just seen the video cause I don't have the speakers here at work)

Ok so do you think I can upload this and put the link here...you definitely need to see it

bono people of the year huh...im so happy for Bono!!! what a great day for u2!!

**does victory dance**

i'll definitely pic that up! :D

iriden, I've actually considered renewing my subscription now just to get that. isn't that sad? I really want it, though!!! I just got my membership back in October! Huh.

If you could upload it, in any way, I'd love to see it! But you don't hurt yourself over it!!

I'm still so proud of Bono. I was gushing all day today like "Oh, who so totally is the best person of the year? EVER, for that matter? BONO. DUUUH" and everyone wanted me to shut the hell up about him. I never do, though. Now. He just needs a Nobel Peace Prize and the world will be a fair place.

I think they're having their last show of the American Vertigo tour tonight in Portland (or was it last night, or tomorrow? I think it's tonight because I remember I considered going awhile back.... ). I feel sad... If I were going I'd bring a sign that'd say "CONGRADULATIONS TO THE PERSON OF THE YEAR!"

 *done rambling*
