The official Gorillaz Thread

Featured Replies

Lol the more I listen to this song the more I find it catchy. I don't care if it's not the normal Gorillaz stuff, Damon always likes to try something different. It's almost refreshing that he is going back to his pop roots, the lyrics sound like something that would be on an early Blur record.

Aww Shani, you will get your hands on that magazine soon enough

:laugh3: Oh I know-you'd just think it was out by now!

This really is a great song-honestly though I don't see it being played on US radio so much as everyone is saying it will be. Maybe alternative at best-but, I think the best way to put this is Americans 'cling' to things and like their familiarity. A good comparison would be comfort food. (And we all know how Americans LUV their comfort food-I'm American so I can say this! :laugh3:) Lets just say that Justin Bieber, Britney Spears and any of the AI winners are basically our musical form of meatloaf and mac and cheese.

Having said that, I think this song is going to do AMAZING in nightclubs and places of that nature.

Loved the new song on first listen. Now I sleep.

The people at the GU forums are fucking tards... look they've all made these siggys already... I seriously can't stand that forum anymore. Damon and Jamie go on there and see what comments are posted sometimes. He didn't appreciate the same shit they threw around when Stylo came out and they all said it sounded like he did it in 30 min.

Some of the best comments on the new song as well:

Uh oh cue the casse brown fangirls D:

I imagine this song will do famously in gay clubs.

I'm being so serious guys.

Why the hell would he pass the torch to somebody else?

Unlike Jamie, Damon actually enjoys what he's doing.

Dick-o-matic completely rapes everything they originally stood for. If this song gets popular, THAT will be the worst thing to happen in Phase 3.

I can't believe Damon did this to us!

I am pissed off. I am livid. I have no words to describe how disappointed I am that they're actually releasing this song. Fuck you Damon and Jamie for coming full circle, and really just raping the living shit out of Gorillaz' original ideals.

Damon was born a hypocrite.

Damon, come on! why'd you write Doncamatic?/You fucked up big, kid, I think your shit is pathetic~

Jamie drops the most bad ass storyboard for a music vid ever and you drop this, stop with your star studded disillusion's and focus on the original concept of Gorillaz.

LOL yeah I let them have my opinion on the whole thing and lets just say I don't think I'll be going back there, I don't think they want me to come back either after that :D.

Fucking uptight 13 year old Noodle lovers can keep that place to themselves.

Right? That whole thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth-and what if Damon does see that? I hope that he doesn't think that GU represents ALL of the fans and that we all think so negatively about it because we here sure as hell don't. I'm not saying to not state if you're not too crazy about it or even if you hate it, but for crying out loud all the bashing is unnecessary. I hope this doesn't have him finalizing the idea of finishing Gorillaz (like I'd heard of before), because I for one don't want him to. :(

Oh Lizzy-I wanted to tell you that the ONLY reason I think Doncamatic would fare better as a club song rather than top 40 over here in the good ol USA () is just because of the way the US seems to operate (see my 'comfort food' analogy above) and NOTHING to do with the band or what was written at GU-I actually said my piece before I saw that. :laugh3:. Honestly some of the best music nowadays can be found in a lot of clubs.

I totally understand if you don't like the song, nothing wrong with that... but all their comments like "raping Gorillaz" is just ridiculous and crosses the line of extremely rude. They don't understand what the original intention of Gorillaz was suppose to be about. They wanted to make good pop music, and fuse a lot of different sounds and styles of music together. Which they have done excellently.

Yeah, well I doubt he would take it that far and stop Gorillaz altogether.

(However if it's for returning to Blur I would be all for it :sneaky:)

I approve that last comment!:wink3::kiss:

Well this is random as fuck. A new Gorillaz single out of no where. Damon was just on BBC1 ( I missed the interview with Zane Lowe) where he released the new single.

Doncamatic:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PwKcXfUmLkk

Doesn't sound like a Gorillaz song too much, very poppy and simple, it's good though. He must of been itching to write another pop song or something.

LOL. Gorillaz are really surprising.

The song is a good song, but it's just a good song.

It sounds like something that can blend in with the mainstream songs on radios. Yeah, the background music (not the beats) are definitely different from those songs aired on the radios, but it's just not unique enough.

And the singer sounds like a girl (that doesn't really matter). Plus, I think more vocal lines should have been given to Damon!

It's much more pop in genre compared to other songs.

They should release an alternate version to this song, like how they did with Glitter Freeze. Y'know, more Damon vocals.

If this song gets popular, THAT will be the worst thing to happen in Phase 3.

I gotta agree with this comment. As much as a Damon fan as I am, this song is the worst of all the songs in Phase 3 (judging by all the songs I've listened to from Phase 3). I rather Rhinestone Eyes or Superfast Jellyfish as a single than this song.

Here is a download to it...

and Ly, yes. I enjoy Rhinestone Eyes and others probably more too, but still those peoples majority of comments are seriously uncalled for. Sounds an awful like how a bunch of Blur fans disowned them (Blur not Gorillaz) after the Great Escape came out and that was just a terrible time.

I'm hoping they will too! And it iS a different song for them-even with all the different sounds they have created!:D

Thanks Lizzy!

Yeah I just don't get how a song can cause so much crazy hate within some people-you may not like everything they do but give them a break-they're human, you're human, deal with it. But slanderous remarks like those aren't the answer, especially right now when bullying is a very (rightfully so) strong topic in our society these past few days. It's not like Damon and co are puppy killers for crying out loud.

^ they are worse than puppy killers, Shani... they are "Gorillaz rapists"

anyway goodnight!

:D

You know in all this chaos with the new song I totally forgot to ask my question:

Was there any Jamie sightings on the NA opening night?

^ they are worse than puppy killers, Shani... they are "Gorillaz rapists"

anyway goodnight!

:D

 Gnight BB! And again Thank you for the link!

Thanks for the download link! :botoxlips:

I will still download it no matter what.

Yeah, some of the comments were a bit too harsh.

I mean, 'Damon's shit is pathetic'? That comment is pathetic. Anyone still gotta give credits to Damon for his music writing skills (even if they don't like that song).

And this one :

Jamie drops the most bad ass storyboard for a music vid ever and you drop this, stop with your star studded disillusion's and focus on the original concept of Gorillaz.

I don't really get this one.

Stop with your star studded disillusion...??? Isn't it supposed to be 'stop with your star studded illusion'?

Because 'disillusion' means to destroy illusions and 'star studded disillusion' would be destroying star studded illusions. So the sentence would mean 'Stop destroying your star studded illusions', which also means 'Continue on with your star studded illusions'. Doesn't seem right; especially with the next part of the sentence.

I don't know, my English is not tip-top perfect. :dizzy:

I'm hoping they will too! And it iS a different song for them-even with all the different sounds they have created!:D

Yeah, you're right, Shani! This song actually proves how Gorillaz can't exactly be fit into one genre only; they've many!

Puppy killers. :laugh3:

Yea I agree about those comments on the GU forums, about them being so over the top, idiotic and rude. I mean people are more than welcome to hate, dislike the song, but there is no need to get personal about the people that make the music, or use disgusting language or whatever.

Fans are so fickle. Do they honestly think they will love every track of a genre bending band? Sounds like they've found a track they don't like and seen it as the start of the apocalypse. The Gorillaz are artists and their job is to create art. They shouldn't be censoring themselves to please a few kids on a message board, they should be expressing themselves and making the music that they want to make. If they want to write a pop song then they should write a pop song.

Hopefully this will make more people aware of what Damon and the band are about and open them up to a whole new audience, who themselves might look into the bands wide ranging catalogue and improve their music tastes.

^ & ^^ Good point. The problem with some listeners to mainstream music is that they don't listen to the band, but just the song. It's still a good way to expose good music to them though.

In fact, Damon might have had this idea in mind, for all we know.

Edit: Omg, the more I listen to Doncamatic, the more it's starting to sound like Gorillaz. The synth behind, Damon's vocals, the funky slight beats during the chorus, now, if only the main beats were slightly different. :freak:

I think I'm actually starting to like it, as mainstream as it sounds.

But does anyone think the chorus where the singer goes 'All played out~' sounds a bit like the 'oh my god' part of the OMG song?

I still don't like it, no matter how many listens i give, it's like The Sounder all over again.

Although i'm kinda having paranoid delusions, it will be terrible to see if Gorillaz starts doing what they rejected in the first place.

If that happens, i'm sorry but you know what song i'l be blaming for.

Oh my god Lizzy. I've been avoiding the GU, so I haven't seen the comments, but they've really hit a new low. That's it, I'm absolutely sick of the place. They're a bunch of whingey whiney kids. I'm really annoyed. I'd really hate to think of Damon and Jamie seeing the comments and taking them to heart. I'd hate for them to think that that's the only Gorillaz fanbase. I think a lot of people would avoid signing up if they'd been lurking for a while - you start to get a picture of the place pretty quickly.

I mean, you don't have to like every single song that a band makes. It would be crazy to expect you to. This song is very mainstream, I do agree. It's certainly not the best Gorillaz song by any means, but it's fun and catchy and it grows on you. There is absolutely no reason for that kind of abuse and anger. Seriously. Anger management mightn't be a bad idea...

Sorry for the rant, but those comments REALLY pissed me off.

Plus: Doncamatic isn't a million miles away from DARE. It's not like this came totally out of the blue. It's in the same ballpark, and yet nobody seems to mind that one.

Exactly. These "fans" are pathetic about 40 pages of continuous comments like this. But remember this is coming from the same group of people who dissed Stylo when it came out. I don't understand all the Damon bashing around that place :\

There is some love for Doncamatic there. Look at one of the signatures xD:

Like i said earlier, there's a divided opinion. No majority in this one.

No it's fine if you don't like the song. But really it's only one song, don't worry I doubt Gorillaz is going in this direction.

They are a band that combines a lot of different music styles, this is just an example of that.

I'm happy to see you feel the same way :P

Yeah to be honest they are so uptight on there. Even in the member's picture threads, which is suppose to be low key you know.... they got all pissy when I posted a picture of Damon that had been posted already months earlier. Oh well excuse me for not memorizing every picture of him that has been posted in here. :dozey:

Then I see they got pissy with someone who just quoted a few pictures, as they that was just like reposting the same pics, they show up twice.

Complete idiots.

There is some love for Doncamatic there. Look at one of the signatures xD:

Like i said earlier, there's a divided opinion. No majority in this one.

Yeah, much better :P

LOL.

Perhaps Damon should start checking out the threads related to him over here.
