July 6, 200520 yr Don't get me wrong, it's a great album. But, one thing annoys me, a lot. That thing is the really ugly sounding guitar, in the second verse of The Hardest Part. It kicks in at about 01:49. It sounds too raw, too off and too darned ugly. It ruins a beautiful and groovey song. Good that it gets great again when it goes back to the chorus, but still. So, feel free to rant about things that annoys you about X&Y.
July 7, 200520 yr That thing is the really ugly sounding guitar, in the second verse of The Hardest Part I know the bit you mean. I think it's either Jonny using a Tremelo arm or a whammy effect. coz I played it with my whammy pedal and it did sound very much like it. But a tremelo arm sounds just like it too.
July 7, 200520 yr It's just not my favorite Album by them. I don't know maybe if I listen to it more.
July 7, 200520 yr too much rhyming on the album. i don't think he did that much on that last album. or it never stuck out as much as on this one.
July 7, 200520 yr it may not be as good lyrically as the last one...dont get me wrong, some songs have some great lyrics, like fix you, and what if...but swallowed in the sea? come on, i mean i LOVE the song, but the lyrics arent so good
July 7, 200520 yr - too many synthies - nothing "low-fi" - no simple song structures - no real experiment. But I love the record anyway :D
July 7, 200520 yr I don't like till kingdom come or swallowed in the sea. I'm not exactly sure why. Swallowed in the sea makes me get bored quickly, for some strange reason :snore: . I don't like the start to Square One either.
July 7, 200520 yr I absolutely hate the 'hardest part'.. I always skip it.. I also think the sound production on some of the tracks is a bit off. I am not fully enjoying this album as much as I thought I would.. :embarrased: Its a great album... dont get me wrong.. I'm just not in love with it .... yet.
July 7, 200520 yr Definitely the organ sound in Fix you. Ditto. It just has a very... pious quality to it.
July 7, 200520 yr i don't care for the majority of the lyrics on the album and i completely hate the fact they use SPOONS. i can't take spoons seriously. they ruined 'low'.
July 8, 200520 yr Definitely the organ sound in Fix you. Beautiful song actually... Except for that part  - too many synthies - nothing "low-fi" - no simple song structures - no real experiment. But I love the record anyway Right up! - Guy's single bass notes on Till Kingdom Come (e.g. right at the start) - The synth-baseline kicking in on 0:20 in Talk... Totally overproduced (too camp for my liking) - A Message sounds a bit overproduced again... The one on The Edge sounded just as good (if not better) to me - Swallowed in The Sea: Never thought I'd say this but sounds like a Westlife song? - Overall, my complaint is the album feels very stuffy, it closes in on you and weighs you down... And the fact that you can't play it softly: the only way it sounds good is when you turn it on full blast. Any other way and it sounds terribly mediocre. Actually the more I hear it the more I like it, but some niggles just won't go away :/
July 8, 200520 yr I can't stand those organ sounds in Fix You as well.....and I don't like the song Twisted Logic. No matter how much I try 2 listen to it I just don't like it.
July 8, 200520 yr I don't know why, but I don't like the song "Til Kingdome Come" :/ Although I like the beginning with Chris' voice.... the words of the song aren't bad...I don't know....it's just that every time I try to listen to it... I cannot but change song :(
July 8, 200520 yr I don't like Swallowed In The Sea and The Hardest Part, they are boring for me and I still prefer AROBTTH and Parachutes .
July 8, 200520 yr altough every one of them have become beter instrumentalists, i don't like the new album thet much because of the production in general... the album is totally overproduced... i think that the production is used in a mediocre way to hide all the stuff that the album's missing: all the emotion and originality of the previous two, and tkc is the only decent acoustic song (a message is anoying). There's no way this album can be compared to arobtth, the previous one was fresh, heartfelt, sincere; this one finds the guys trying to be something that they're not. why the hell are they trying to be the next u2??? they should try to be the next beatles or the next radiohead, not in terms of sound but in terms of originality, invention and experimentation. in the first times chris was a fan of the flaming lips and jeff buckley, well he should listen to them again to realise how much they have moved away from that way... yes, every band has to evolve, and that's why i love radiohead, the falming lips or sigur rós so much, but this new direction showed me that my favourite band is never going to be the best, maybe the biggest but not the best...

I totally agree with you Musicman (and not Musicam lol ;). Well, I love Radiohead a lot for their creativity . and now I'm really disappointed of Coldplay because they are becoming too commercial for me . I hope they'll be more creative in the future . (is my English correct ? because It's very hard for me to find the right vocabulary )
July 8, 200520 yr Well I love X&Y. I dont like to talk abou things that I dont like about Coldplay, I want everything to be perfect about them. But actually I must agree with this album being overproduced. Too much synths. Maybe on 2 or 3 songs as in ROB but not in 12 out of 13. And actually, I cant get over it, but it seems like Chris sings one scentance at a time. The lyrics doesnt make much sense. Like in Low. One scentance at a time. And he only tells the facts with the words he is using. You see the world in black and white No colour or light You think you'll never get it right But you know you might And the lyrics goes on like that in the whole song. Only facts. I hope they get back to the good old days with acoustic and more feeling to it. This album feels like all songs is written to be played on the radio. But its a really good record but compared to Parachutes, its bleh... (Actually I think we should start a 'What you love about X&Y'-thread again, cause I dont wanna think of all the bad things about X&Y, i wanna be optimistic :D)
July 8, 200520 yr well, i didn't want to be negative, it's just that it was the first time i faced that i didn't like the album as i thought i would... but i'm sure they can and will do better the next time
July 8, 200520 yr i didnt like the insert. i dont know if this is the right word, but im talking about that pages ..................... why they didnt work more on that?
July 9, 200520 yr I don't like the lyrics to the begining of Swallowed in the sea. They sound like...kindergarden poetry somehow. "You cut me down a tree and brought it back to me and that's what made me see where I had gone wrong" hmm...
