A bit of a brash title, but brash because its honest... Life is hard yes?

 

I got like 4 emails from Busybeeurns and I decided to take a peak aboutthe place again, and look what I come to find: Coldplay better than Oasis and Radiohead.

 

Good my golly, I dont really give a fuck about Oasis (But theyre still better than Coldplay) but what is it that makes Coldplay good? Parachutes was mildly interesting and that was only because they stuck to being ANOTHER band making mainstream music, and they are a (Shrieks) DECENT band. But on Rush of Blood I guess they just tried to be the band that they simply arent; an interesting, melodic un-formulated band. The music is simply a toned down, tamer version of latter day Radiohead. To the guy who said in that fateful Coldplay vs Radiohead and Oasis topic, the reason Coldplays first two albums "Show more potential than Radioheads or Oasis's first 2" is because they simply took what Radiohead were perfecting after 10 years on the music circuit and licked off that, spat it into something called 'Parachutes'.

 

Of course Radiohead's first album wasnt going to be their best (But for the record, I really enjoyed it, a lot) but they were forming, and the Bends shoots anything that Coldplay could ever do straight into the water. I thought Pablo Honey was good for its rawness, it was a record no-one predicted would do well because it lacked the grunginess MTV audiences seeked at the time, but when they released Creep (After 'Stop Whispering') people began to buy Pablo Honey, and some were disapointed that there was not as much head banging and mosh pittin' as they wanted, but most were turned onto a new direction. Sure, some of it was simply 80's punk and brit pop but many songs off that album (Such as, Blow Out, Splurgee, Thinking About You, I Cant, Vegetable, Ripcord) ran along a distinct line of originality. Parachutes was stale.

 

And now what the hell are Coldplay going to do, they are totally screwed. They havent changed much at all since Parachutes, and if you look at the progression lines of Radiohead, from Pablo Honey, to an excellent Bends, to a mind blowing unbelievable album like OK Computer, and onto the dark and very original Amnesiac and Kid A. I cant wait to see the direction Coldplay run into, it'll be funny. They'll probably keep doing the same things over and over again for like 4 albums and no doubt some of you idiots out there will buy every one of them. Shucka.

I like Radiohead alright but every Radiohead-fanatic is always insulting Coldplay in some fashion at the same time they are hanging out on THEIR board. If you think Coldplay sucks DONT hang out here, if you like Radiohead HANG out on that pathetic official msgboard they have. :-x

 

Are Coldplay going to put out a dark and strange album that will piss off part of their fans? Well yes and no..........

 

Yes---- in that AROBTTH is not an acoustic driven or mellow album like Parachutes. It also not the optimistic album that Parachutes is, it is more mature and is about loss, doubt, love, faith, and politics. It is much more of an anthem album than its freshmen debut. Parchutes is still a great album and stands on its two feet well (and is probably better than Pablo Honey :D )

 

No---- in that they won't dump their guitars and take up keyboards and drum machines. They won't alienate their fans with an album like Kid A which killed all chances of video and radioplay since. They won't put out lyrics which are bordering on undecipherable. And they won't make outright dark and gloomy albums and stop playing their classics live in concert. They also won't refuse to do interviews, retreat from the spotlight, and put up a wall between themselves and their fans.

 

In case you didn't get the memo, Coldplay stopped being named the next Radiohead along time ago. They will probably be the next U2 or the Beatles if anything. ;) But they will do it their way and with their fans. Using the Radiohead yardstick to measure up other bands is rather crap. Sure they are good but Coldplay will probably be bigger than them anyway. After all they ARE on their second album, AND each has done incredibly well.

 

I'm quite happy with my band and with the fact that just about every song is classic, that i CAN like it on first hearing, and that it DOES hold up on multiple listenings. Plus they are fantastic live and put on a much more interactive show than any Radiohead recording i've ever heard of. So lets stop the Radiohead comparisons here as they are TWO seperate bands and they are very different from each other. You might like Radiohead better, which is fine....CONGRATULATIONS!! :roll: I on the other hand will always like coldplay better, which is why i hang out here or on the main CP msgboard, instead of the Radiohead msgboard (which DOES suck anyway) :lol:

I agree with you Chris' nuts..except for one thing..i'm a true radiohead fan, but i'm not an arrogant bastard..i don't think.. :shrug:

PRO SHOT, PAL This was filmed to be included in a potential DVD release. Back in August it was announced this footage would be televised. More than 20 cameras where used. I am happy to have recorded the broadcast from 3sat (Germany) one TV that is strong in culture and bradcast a lot of music (mainly classical and jazz music) with a very high data stream. So better than this only the HD. Barely some commercial DVDs have this quality. Enjoy it.

Oasis were already legends after their first two albums. Were any of you alive during the 90s??? Coldplay started strong, but AROBTTH has been widely recieved as a dissappointment.

 

It's fine if they're yer favorite band but don't be so ignorant towards the greats that paved the way for them.

I loved what Radiohead did with Amnesiac and Kid A, because it did interact with the fans. Now, rightly enough you wouldnt have found Radiohead plastered all over MTV during these releases and that was because they stopped doing videos and interviews, but if you cared like a big radiohead fan would you'd find many diary entries from (Mostly Phil reporting on the entire band) the band on the web and from the fan club mailing list. The era of oddness from them is the most interesting and fun thing Ive seen from any band in a long time, nearly as brilliant as the Smashing Pumpkins screwing over Virgin in 2000. It was great because it interacted the fans, and I feel that Radiohead were heading in an odd direction after OK computer.

 

Its not as if Radiohead abandoned their fans, Amnesiac was a dark turn but it was classically brilliant, and people who were patient enough to like these songs and appreciate their worth were returned with the even darker Kid A, which took it all one step further.

 

Like I said, I appreciate your criticism, as long as its constructive, which it isnt, so piss off. If you have a problem with what I think of Coldplay then go to a mod, go to your mother, anyone as long as I dont have to hear about it. Im all for debating, but youre acting as if people who arent Coldplay fans are the fucking devil.

 

I see everything in Coldplay that I see more of in Radiohead. Its marked now that Chris Martin has started doing his songs in a helucinatic way, as if hes Thom Yorke junior. Ive heard Chris talk about Radiohead in interviews, and he idolises them so much, he talks about them like their the big boys on the playground and he wants to be a part of that. And its all evident in the music.

AROBTTH is a disappointment? :o You must be kidding! Maybe to a few critics but most thought it was one of the top albums of the year and many said it will be in the Top 100 of all-time for awhile (its in many of those list already)

 

Yes Oasis had TWO great initial albums. Now as for the rest................ :shrug:

 

If you want to get me started on Oasis improvements just ask!! :P A great band but they've been retreading for years. Their last album was on critics most disappointing of the year lists. Its like if U2 had put out 3 albums of the calibre of Pop or Zooropa or Rattle & Hum in a row instead of recovering with albums like Achtung Baby and All That You Can't Leave Behind. I can understand a band faltering with one album but not 3 in a row. They aren't TERRIBLE but they aren't CLASSICS. :shrug:

 

Ps I'm 31, so I do remember the 80's and the 90's. So if you want I can even say that Coldplay might be the next Police if you want. They were just as good too! :P Just because they are young and only have two albums to their name don't think that they won't become the next big name in rock music. :D

i dont see the point of comparing these bands, you are always going to get mixed reviews and everyone is entilted to their own opinion, u cant get anyone to change their minds either. Its ok to compare coldplay to bands who are at the same status or level they are at but not to bands who had made a major impact on the music biz for many years, if coldplay has been around for the same time as radiohead and oasis then its alright. Also, I think radiohead is just so different from coldplay in reference to their music, Ive just recently been listening to a lot of radiohead and been comparing the music is just so different lyrically and musically, u cant just pick out which one is better than the other, however radiohead's early early music do similar to coldplay but there is still no basis for picking out which one is better. In my opinion, these bands are all great and has made an impact on my life and theres no need to bring one down to bring another one up, if that makes sense. ;)

I think I am being constructive and i never said that you HAD to be a Coldplay fan, but you were the one who WAS on a COLDPLAY msgboard purposely starting a fight to see if we could back it up. If you don't want a bloody nose don't throw the first punch. :P

 

As for Radiohead, Oasis, and U2 they are all great bands and they are some of my favorites. But they aren't without flaws in their careers. To come out and critique Coldplay when they are on only on a second album and compare them against much older bands is unfair. If you want come back in 5 years and we'll see who's right then. I'm putting my faith in Coldplay.
