I read he wanted it to be a double album but many of the songs he wanted to put on it were left unfinished..

wikipedia writes a lot about that

here's a quote:

David McConnell, although there through much of the actual recording process, was not consulted during the mixing, nor was he asked for the extensive "three years' worth" of notes he and Smith had made while the album was being recorded. The producer also noted that the track "Ostriches & Chirping", a short instrumental made from sampling and looping the noises made by a toy bird, had nothing to do with Smith and was something that McConnell had recorded by himself. McConnell said: "...don't ask me how this ended up on the record, I totally forgot I had put that on one of his reels."

When asked what he believed the late Smith would think of the released version of the album, McConnell told Benjamin Nugent, "I don't think he would have delivered [that] record. The record he would have delivered would have had more songs, would have had different mixes and [been] a little more in-your-face."Schnapf also expressed that the final result that he and Bolme had produced was not the album that Smith would have made. Schnapf also said that they did not add anything to the songs, and only mixed whatever had been recorded: "I would never presume to add anything. We didn't add anything."

would certainly of been interesting to hear/see the version elliott would of wanted to release compared to actual released version.

^^^ it really is,i cant stop listening to it lately

wow! i never knew how strange....

3 years, and yet still so popular to this day. maybe even more so!

He died on the 21st? NO WAY! I just got into him like 3 days ago... he's such an extraordinary artist, it's a shame we lost him.

Can someone please upload the soundtrack version of Miss Misery? :)

:D

I've already got the piano demo and I can't stop listening to it. Thanks a bunch!

thanks! can't decide what version to download

Damn I hate Celine Dion. :veryangry2:

...I wonder what would have happened if he won that Oscar...

we have that Oscar ceremony on tape and I last watched it 3 years ago and I didn't know Elliott Smith then.. but I remember when Celine Dion won. And Her performance too.. I think I have to watch that tape again..

I like that performance...it sounds good, if nothing else.

I'm thinking that XO is easily one of the best albums I've ever heard. Either/Or isn't too far behind, but I prefer XO a whole lot more.

^^ i have not listened to Xo for ages now.

hmmm, Figure 8 = From A Basement On A Hill > Xo > Either/Or > Roman Candle.

I have not listened to 'Elliott Smith' before so didn't include obviously.

XO is my favourite also, it has my favourite song - Pitseleh!
