i was pretty bored last night in bed i mean i could'nt sleep so i listened to all my elliot smith songs (not alot at all) and i just wow, cant get enough of him all over again.

his voice is crazy soothing.

it definitely relaxes me.

Has anyone heard the song "Late" by Ben Folds? It's about Elliot.

Under some dirty words on a dirty wall

Eating takeout by myself

I played the shows

Got back in the van and put the Walkman on

And you were playing

In some other dive a thousand miles away

I played a thousand times before

And like pathetic stars

The truck stops and the rock club walls

I always knew

You saw them too

But you never will again

It's too late

Don't you know

It's been too late

For a long time

Elliott, man, you played a fine guitar

And some dirty basketball

The songs you wrote

Got me through a lot

Just wanna tell you that

But it's too late

It's too late

No, don't you know

It's been too late

For a long time

Oh no

Things were looking up

Least that's what I heard

Oh no

Someone came and washed away your hard earned

Peace of mind

When desperate static beats the silence up

A quiet truth to calm you down

The songs you wrote

Got me through a lot

Just wanna tell you that

But it's too late

It's too late

No, don't you know

It's been too late

For a long time

It's too late

It's too late

No, don't you know

Haha I just noticed it. Very nice, though I doubt there're many people here who appreciates or at least knows Elliott Smith. My classmate doesn't even know who The Beatles are :freak:

^ lol at him/her

just watched a concert video from 2001...gosh it was depressing to see Elliott...he was forgetting the lyrics, chords. the crowd was shouting out the lyrics...he stopped playing several songs, because he couldn't remember them. really depressing video

that asounds really depressing that video nik.....i dont suppose many people would like to see that.

oo i shall look at that oscar performance.

I'm sorry if it's been posted already but can somebody please give me some links for his songs?.. I wanna start somewhere but I don't really know which songs are the best to begin. Thanks.

Now that you've gotten a good taste, you should start getting the shows. Some of the songs are way different live - I really like Clementine live, over the album version, for example.

98 and 2000 are good years if you're interested in full band shows.

oh lordy. i love his music.

don't know if this has been discussed, but has anyone heard metric's cover of "between the bars"? that is one my favourite elliott smith songs and their cover is pretty good, i guess. you can hear it here.

My favorite cover of Between The Bars is the bluegrassy one by the Mutual Admiration Society:

He actually looked pretty nervious on the stage. And this suit, so official, a bit akward.

yes i thought about the suit, such a smart thing to wear, white!

I read somewhere that he didnt want to do it but his management made him...something like that.
