Well, beleive it or not, I first heard Clocks on the radio about 4 years ago and didn't like it.

Actually, I hated Chris' voice.

I know, I know. I should be violently lynched, but it's the truth!

But, my brother came into my room one night with his brand, spanikin' new iPod and goes, "Hey Allie, you need to listen to this song. I know you don't like Coldplay, but this song is beautiful."

Um so... in a span of 5 minuets my life was changed.

And there you have it.

(And, I think Chris' voice couldn't be anymore beautiful, just for clarification)

Wow... I never didn't like Coldplay! :smug:

So far I've converted two and a half people: my mom (playing Clocks shortly after I first heard/*coughdownloadedcough* it -- "Hmmm, who's that?"), my younger sister (kind of... she still gets annoyed when I blast the songs :P ), and my older sister (from "Coldplay's too slow for me" to "Hey... I was wondering if I could borrow X&Y...")

"Coldplay's Quiet Storm" pretty much fits it all. :)

OH! KM... I could totally give you a run for your money.

My mother, my sister, and countless friends have all been turned. I have surrounded myself with Coldplay fans.

Haha! The greatest competition on Earth -- a race to convert people to Coldplayers. In the end, everybody wins

I was watching this old Canadian entertainment show called eNow late 2000 or early 2001. They were doing some "Cool Britannia" edition (3 or 4 years later I might add) where the hosts went to London.

They did an interview with Chris Martin. In retrospect, it was an odd choice for the show, since this was a mainstream entertainment show like Entertainment Tonight and the band was not on the Canadian radar at all. Anyway, they showed a clip of Yellow and I was hooked right there.

I first saw the Yellow video on mtv... that was years ago... didn't think much of it.... then I was living in Orlando, and they were at Hard Rock Live in Jan. 2003... the show was sold out, they were giving away tickets on the radio... and I wanted to go, just because it was the show everyone was trying to get into...lol.... I didn't get to go unfortunately!!!

So I bought AROBTH... and it was amazing... then I bought Parachutes.... and I was blown away even more... and I've loved Coldplay ever since!

So glad I discovered Coldplay!

I'd heard Coldplay songs for a few years since Parachutes was released, and I always really loved the singles. But I didn't really 'get into music' until earlier this year to be honest. When Speed Of Sound was released I absolutely loved it and then Fix You came out too and 'that was it' as they say - I couldn't believe that such an amaaaaaaaaaaaazing beautiful song could be written!!! I loved it soooo much (excuse the repetition of the occasional letter here and there). And I could really relate to Fix You, as I'm sure everybody can as it means so much to loads of different people. Since then I have been totally hooked, bought all 3 albums, am searching frantically on the internet for all of the singles that have been released along with those 'elusive' B sides and other rarities and to top it all off, they're really really nice genuine people with a great sense of humour - some of the things they say on Storytellers and Chris on the Biography Channel are so funny. So there ya have it people - raise a glass for Coldplay . Long may it continue :D

Wait wait wait --

You guys have a bio channel and Chris was on there?

Damn.

Same here, I saw them perform Politik at the VMA's.

I was totally into britpop circa 2000/2001, and I LOVED Travis, so when I read an article calling Coldplay the 'new Travis,' I already knew I liked them. I saw Shiver on Montreal's music channel and bought Parachutes the minute it came out in Canada and since then I have been hooked.

Also, I think it's pretty ironic that Coldplay is this massive band, and Travis has pretty much faded into the background in North America and is only moderately successful in Britain (well, compared to Coldplay)

Same here' date=' I saw them perform Politik at the VMA's.[/quote']

That was actually the 2003 Grammys. :)

^^ Mhm the 2003's VMAs was the scientist

OH! KM... I could totally give you a run for yor

My mother, my sister, and countless friends have all been turned. I have surrounded myself with Coldplay fans.

i have you BOTH beat... my 7 year old sister is as big a fan as i am, and is upset that i said she can not attend her first concert until she is 10!

Well, the thing with music is in my family is... it starts with my brother, gets passed down to my sister, then to me. So my brother and sister heard Yellow being played in a commercial back in 2000 and my sister was like "ooh I like that song" then they downloaded it and then... voila! I remember my brother bought the Parachutes CD sometime in 2001 and I thought nothing of it, I remember. I think he just wanted to show me the cool yellow globe or something. Then in about 2003 I became hooked. I remember that was the year that my brother saw Will and I bought the Live 2003. So it was definitely before December 2003. :P I have yet to figure out when exactly I heard Coldplay.

To show you the globe...

I still remember when I got into them... May '03. Before I was out of middle school, cuz I bought Rush of Blood in the summer. First CD I ever ever bought. :smug:

I loooooove theeeeeeeemmmmmmmmm.

So lemme guess... you're in 10th grade? Lol I'm in 8th. So I got into them when I was like around 10-11. Hell, I wasn't much of a "little kid" growing up. I was listening to Foo Fighters and Weezer and watched Friends when I was 6. All thanks to my waaay older siblings. :P

Wow... I never didn't like Coldplay! :smug:

*coughs* how did you manage to do that?? :stunned: converting two people in mean? wow! nice work! i might need some tips>>i have HELPED in the convertion of people..but i've never done it completely! :stunned:

Haha I converted some people. One of them, my friend Becca. See, I was trying to persuade her to like Coldplay in 6th grade, but she hated Coldplay, and I bet her 50 bucks that by 7th grade she would like them.

Then one day in 7th grade, she's like "I like Coldplay now. You got me into it." So if we remembered that bet, I would be 50 dollars richer. :smug:

Then... my mom, from this year. She always kinda liked Coldplay, but now she actually knows who Chris Martin is! I play piano so my mom uses Coldplay as an excuse for me to practice piano more.

"Don't you wanna grow up to play like Chris Martin?" LMAO. Hey, it worked, anyways.

Then... well... I *almost* converted my dad. My dad's not very musical, so the fact that he likes anything is like a miracle. In 2003, Clocks was played in some comercial and my dad's like "Ya know, I like this. See, you should play music like this." But noooowww... he always gets annoyed when I play Coldplay. He's like "Ugh. Turn this off." Jeez, my dad is so fickle.

 i kind of converted my dad...he liked them, but i made him like them even more!!! wel...my mom isnt very musical...but she likes them!!

as for school:im converting a metal fan, a classic rock fan, and a radiohead fan into coldplay...and its working!! :D

My dad always makes fun of Chris' voice. He makes it sound HORRIBLE, like something's dying.

Yesterday my bro-in-law and sis took me and my younger sis to see Harry Potter. Somehow the conversation shifted to Coldplay... and he's too macho for them. "Coldplay causes constipation," he said. We laughed about it. On the way home from the movie, Talk came on and my sister blasted it right when he was about to turn it off! It was funny. After the song was over, I said "Man, now I need some prune juice." He started cracking up.

Guys and Coldplay, swear.

I thought they were from Wolverhampton (got confused with another band)

Biography channel

Yeah we hav a Biography channel on Sky in the UK, where do you live? It was really good, a half hour interview with Chris around the time of 'Rush of blood to the head' was released I think. One story he told was of his dad asking him not to swear so much lol, just so funny the way he told it, he really is a cool guy. Strange, usually they repeat things over and over again on Sky but I've only ever seen that episode once, and even then I missed the first half of it, so maybe if it's on again somebody can somehow record it on DVD and upload it onto Rapidshare.

As a side note...

I was watching a football game (American football, le sigh) the other day and just before the game faded off to commercials, they played a clip of Clocks while the scores were showing on the screen. I guess I have a finely tuned ear to pick up ANY note of Coldplay. I wasn't paying any true attention to the TV until then. Football and Coldplay...
