Gitta Rensolo
So why is the beginning of you only live twice the same as the beginning of Robbie William's "Millenium"?

Ondes Martenot
it's a cover! Nancy Sinatra's You Only Live Twice or so it seems, One life for yourself and one for your dreams. You drift through the years and life seems tame, Till one dream appears and love is its name. And love is a stranger who'll beckon you on, Don't think of the danger or the stranger is gone. This dream is for you, so pay the price. Make one dream come true, you only live twice. And love is a stranger who'll beckon you on, Don't think of the danger or the stranger is gone. This dream is for you, so pay the price. Make one dream come true, you only live twice. Coldplay's You only live twice or so it seems, One life for yourself and one for your dreams. You drift through the years and life seems tame, Till one dream appears and love is its name. And love is a stranger who'll beckon you on, Don't think of the danger or the stranger is gone. This dream is for you, so pay the price. Make one dream come true, you only live twice. And love is a stranger who'll beckon you on, Don't think of the danger or the stranger is gone. victaniac
Didn't Nancy Sinatra cover the song as well? Almost sure You Only Live Twice was written by John Barry.
Kawil
Nancy Sinantra's version was the title song to the James Bond movie "You Only Live Twice," back when Sean Connery was the star!. (Yes, I am that old.) The song was long a guilty pleasure of mine, and I'm happy to see that Chris likes it too.
Ondes Martenot
Didn't Nancy Sinatra cover the song as well? Almost sure You Only Live Twice was written by John Barry. in my opinion it was writtin by John Barry, but performed by Nancy Sinatra  about comparison: The soundtrack was composed by Bond veteran, John Barry. At the time, this was his fourth credited Bond film. The theme song, You Only Live Twice, was sung by Nancy Sinatra. In 1998, Robbie Williams sampled the title song "You Only Live Twice" for his #1 song "Millennium" Williams has often been mentioned by some fans as a possible Bond in future movies. A rock version of You Only Live Twice was covered by Coldplay when they toured in 2001.

clocks-politik
man you guys is slow... robbie sampled it obviously, coldplay covered the real song, nancy sinatra recorded the real song, it appeared in a james bond film...you know like ...live and let die and stuff.... han
I heard a live version of 'you only live twice' and at the beginning chris says: 'we wrote this song for robbie williams'
rlm2112
you only live twice I heard a live version of 'you only live twice' and at the beginning chris says: 'we wrote this song for robbie williams' I actually have that version, before he says that he says "Normally we'd be gone by now, back to our limo....back to (undecipherable).....wherever. But if you want one more, then you gotta ask for it....NOW!" *audience screams* "Quality, thank you...right. It's worth it believe me" i also have another version where chris says "This is a special song for Steve (undecipherable), happy aniversary and all that stuff.....here we go" I really like this song, i also like Radiohead's cover of "Nobody does it better" which was also a James Bond theme.....any thoughts? sting2kx
ya the music does sound like Robbie William's song. i was weirded out aswell lol when i first heard the song
jason41483
Written by John Barry, performed by Nancy Sinatra. That's the original version from the James Bond movie You Only Live Twice from 1967. I'm only obsessed with all things James Bond... See my website below! As far as the Robbie Williams line goes, I assume Chris said that because Williams had sampled YOLT in one of his own songs and Coldplay decided to dedicate the performance of the song to him. when the levee breaks
to answer the question once and for all john barry wrote the song, nancy sinatra performed it for the bond film. robbie williams sampled the srings for his song millenium coldplay covered the original barry/sinatra version chris martins comment at the beginning is a joke referencing robbies sampling
°°°Morning°Glory°°°
I heard a live version of 'you only live twice' and at the beginning chris says: 'we wrote this song for robbie williams' Hahaha, another example for Chris' kind of humour! lunar1126
He said that ("We wrote this for Robbie Williams") at the 2000 Glasto festival.....and his joke fell completely flat on his audience!!! Nice try Chris! (Aww, I thought it was funny :P)
badlydrawngirl
Chris was quite obviously taking the mick when he said that
Littlewhiteshadows
i also have another version where chris says "This is a special song for Steve (undecipherable), happy aniversary and all that stuff.....here we go" Steve Lamacq, he's a UK Radio DJ who championed Coldplay here when they were first discovered. Which has nothing to do with anything, really, but I felt a need to enlighten ;)
