First Impression of Coldplay

Featured Replies

The first time I saw them was when they were doing a special presentation of Live 2003 on CBC here in Canada. It was advertised in TV guide and the picture of chris made him look like an old country singer. Just the way the lighting was, the black and white picture, and the pose. I thought I was in for a bad suprise. Turns out they were just O.K. and that song Yellow was pretty cool and same thing with clocks.

I taped it and a few weeks later I got really sick and I was just so down I didn't watch tv or anything but for some reason I kept watching the coldplay tape over and over. And now I love the band! :D :D

Anybody else have any interesting stories?

Nope. My first impression was "Who's this geek walking on a beach? This video is boring".  I was so young and stupid.

Then AROBTTH came along and it all changed. :)

I remember watching the Yellow video and thinking there was 'something' bout Chris but I didnt fall into Coldplay that way. The main thing that got me into it was in about November 2002 when I did some work experience at a graphic design place and they played AROBTTH on a little cd player in the corner a couple of days I was there. So I have really happy memories of that place as they basically got me into Coldplay!! Love ya O&G!!! lol! :)

I saw Yellow video and thought the band had a nice sound. Bought their CD and Yellow was my least favorite song on it. What an amazing record. I remember going and buying AROBTTH on it's release day and driving around listening to it in my car for 5 hours.

"Who's this geek walking on a beach? This video is boring

My first experience was watching Trouble on VH1 or MTV, not sure. I was like :dead:

"This is fucking amazing. The song, the video...and who's that incredibly bloody gorgeous guy singing???"

 with me was like that too Xadajoda but it was with shiver's videoclip...i just thought that chris was soooo sweet!!!! and then i heard trouble and bought the cd...i didn't like yellow that much at that time....and then i was completed addicted to the parachutes cd :P

When I first heard CP, I was cleaning my house, and I thought- oh, this music is good, but nothing more(the best music to hear, while cleaning your haouse :) ). But as many others, after some time, i heard it again, and...it was better :) but I still wasn't a grouppie, or almost-grouppie, as i call myself now :)

Few months later I heard it for a few times in a city, and on TV, so i've downloaded some of their songs by emule (but later i've bought originals! :) ), and it has started...

coldplay_steph, I love your avatar in our sig!!!! I couldn't stop laughing for a few minutes.... me and my friends joke about those two alot.

I think I've said this many times before, but I despised Coldplay. I was in a very... transitional time in my life (8th grade... 2002) and I was sliding from the Hip-Hop/Rap genre to the bad, manufactured, mainstream rock. I had heard "Clocks" on the radio a number of times and strongly disliked it (I'd turn it off everytime I heard it actually). The reason being: I hated Chris' voice. I thought it was the worst thing I'd ever heard. It's horrifying to even think of that now.

But my brother was the one to point me in the right direction. He came into my room one night with his new iPod and made me listen to "The Scientist". I'll never forget what I felt during that song. It was like I was in a different world all together. It was because of that song that I realized what affect music can have... the power it posesses. It was amazing.

And so, the next day, I downloaded everything I could find of them and I have never been the same since.

It's amazing how music can do that to people.

I had heard they're songs, Clocks and The Scientist and liked them. but what really got me into Coldplay was seeing them perform Politik on the Grammys, from then on i was hooked, it was such a great performance.

Has to be the In My Place video and I was thinking to myself who are these people?? and by that time I was playing guitar , so I learned the song, so there we go. But I got hooked, high on Coldplay just this summer, after the Live 8 thing... when I started obssesing about the songs the performances the wristband the tape, gosh, Chris, Guy, Will, Jon *sighs*

I heard Clocks on the radio in 2003 and loved it immediately. I bought Rush of Blood maybe a month later, and the first time I saw what they looked like was when I looked in the sleeve. Couldn't help but smile.

I just remember thinking... "The singer is a pong," which is what we call people with buzz cuts and round heads.

Yeah.

well, i watched the yellow video I was 10 or something...and then I changed the channel to watch cartoons...I wasn't keen on music but I thought it was kinda cool, anyway

I'm not patient enough to sit through Yellow, I think.

Back then, I saw Yellow on Much Music. I thought it was pretty boring and I thought the guy looked kinda like a geek.

Today, I think they're pretty boring and the guy looks kinda like a geek.

Full circle.

But in all seriousness, AROBTTH was my peak for my Coldplay love...now they're just "meh" to me.

I'm happy I still think they're awesome.

i watched in my place, the video was number one on mtvasia hitlist and i thought 'not bad song' but when i heard the scientist video i was just..

fall in love... and then i heard clocks.. :smug:

When I first watched The Scientist video, I felt completely in love. The video was just amazing and so was the song. A few weeks later I heared Clocks and then I knew that Coldplay was my band :)

I heard Yellow on the radio and was resolutely unimpressed... I actually felt disappointed since the local indie media was just short of raving / salivating over them (and they're usually spot on) But then Trouble came along on the telly and that changed everything :D

my first impression of coldplay was their yellow video clip. i saw chris walking along the beach and i was just like yeah! i want to do that, i wonder if he was really freezing. haha my mind was so young, but i just loved it ever since

The first time I heard Yellow, I tought the singer had a weird voice. But well, everything has changed now. :)

Oh it was the first time we saw them...Oh well, the first time I saw them...I can't remember when it was but all I know is that it was an interview, and I thought Chris had a cute English accent, and they seem to be boring.
