well,i think neither of these albums is SUPER (no how to... nor x&y ),but i really have doubts that U2's last one is better than X&Y...in my opinion they're on the same level...or very close to each other,but i would choose x&y

Gah, I understand what you mean. I should clear up what I meant ;) I mean, I don't want Chris to BECOME Bono, because that would detract from Bono's.... specialness...? :lol: You know what I mean! But I do think reaching for that level of personal thought and emotion in the lyrics would be a VERY good thing. Chris' lyrics are a bit... lacking, which I don't mind at all. But if he could produce something on par to 'Acrobat' or 'One Tree Hill' or well.. the list can go on and on. If he could write like that, or aspire to, then that would make me very happy. In that respect, I wish he would become more like Bono. I'm not sayin' he should start rockin' the shades and cowboy hats. :lol: ;)

ok well instead of the whole dick thing, ill say this. u2 is full of old men who keep trying to remake their older hits and it doesnt work, so the edge should just stop with his delay effects and try to be dependant on some nice wholesome music. i did like u2 but they are so over rated.

I was a Coldplay fan BEFORE being a U2 fan. I listen to both almost equally. Both elevate my soul higher than any other band.

 

To be respected, you should voice your opinion and stance on a subject eloquently. Or you're not going to get any kind response back. Back up your opinions rather than just saying they're "old farts". Ok, tell me how similiar HTDAAB is to the 'Boy' album. Make a relation between the lyrical content of 'Pop' to 'War'. Explain to me exactly where the delay effects are in Bomb. Then contrast this to the guitar work in 'Achtung Baby'.

 

Why don't you try doing that instead of just blindly insulting a band I can tell you don't have much knowledge about. I'm tired of people insulting these four men. I AM NOT SAYING U2 IS BETTER THAN COLDPLAY. Ok??? I feel the use of caps is necessary here, because obviously the fact that I'm a member of a Coldplay community isn't enough to portray this.

u2 has "some" good music that i will actually listen too, but over the past 4-5 years of listening to them i tended to steer away because alot of it sounded the same to me, as an example from htdaab ; crums from your table, miracle drug, beginnings sound almost alike. i learned how to play them both on guitar and they do sound very similar.

 

i did blow up quite abit and im sorry for that, but im just sharing my opinion. i dont like u2 as much anymore because to me, its not like their old music. this new stuff sounds like a new u2 that ive never even heard.

 

my friends have been to u2 concerts and they said they were brilliant and have been to coldplay and said they were brilliant. lots of people like both bands, but if i had to choose 1 i would say coldplay. each have their own styles but coldplay just seem s more fun to me and i can actually sit down and listen to all 3 albums peacfully. i dont feel i can do that with u2 anymore.

 

Back to the topic, which cd was better.... X&Y: coldplay showed that parachutes could sound more acoustic with piano. ROBTTH had both acoustic and rock and X&Y had a bit over everything but a bit more "rock", HTDAAB sounded very blah to me the last couple times. i think ive tried to make my point as peacefully as i could

As live acts, i can't see that the two are comparable, U2 are, to my eyes and ears, a live act way and above anything else that is around in modern music and has been for over a decade. Don't get me wrong, Coldplay's shows are one of the best gigs I've been to but there is just nothing else that has come close.

 

 

 

Anyway, not here to discuss that, here to answer the topic question. In my opinion, yes, HTDAAB is a better album than X&Y. It's not U2 at their best, but in my opinion the b-sides to AROBTTH would have made a better album than X&Y. By the way, that doesn't mean I think X&Y is appalling, I just prefer songs such as Crests Of Waves and One I Love to the best on X&Y. Actually, my favourite song from 'the X&Y era' is Gravity and even that was written under the AROBTTH influences.

HTDAAB can well be compared to ATYCLB, the two have a very similar style, but I feel this is a far stronger album song-for-song.

 

Just quickly, my favourite songs off each are quite comparable if i were to give /10 ratings to each but, if I'm being honest, not even my favourite X&Y song, 'Til Kingdom Come, comes close to either Miracle Drug or Original Of The Species, my favourite songs from How To....
