Yeah, yeah. I was sitting in my biology class today and we're getting into evolution and this kid looked at a picture of giraffes first with shorter necks, then with the long ones.

 

Then she asked the substitute, "Do you think they used to have shorter necks?"

 

"No," she said.

 

"So you think they've always had long necks? What about humans evolving from apes or whatever?"

 

"There is absolutely no science that backs evolution up. If you think about it, it all supports creation. No matter how many textbooks they have the theory of evolution in, it'll never make sense."

 

Now... I think I believe in evolution because I can't believe we were created, boom, the way we are today. But I was really just wondering how she got that science doesn't back the theory up, that it proves creation more than evolution. Could someone explain?

I believe in creation.

I could think that maybe we could evolution from the apes,but I would still believe that God create what exist now and all what exist then.

 

Many people want a prove about that,I have to say I dont have the final answer for that.

To be honest I was impressed when you said that your teacher mention that.Normally you would believe that teacher form schools believe in evolution,and more cause that why they are teaching to the students.

No. This is a sheer no brainer. If you believe in a creator then good luck. This surely is a case of infinite wonder which will go on for ever and ever I suspect. I don't feel it a practical use of my time :)

 

I will say one thing...

 

direct showing of belief in any god = result 10,000,000,000,000,000,000+ deaths

not believing in a creator or a god = a fair few less deaths I think.

 

and here's one....a cute little amendment in the US law means that if you believe in the second coming of Christ then you are in part inciting terrorism and can be held under terrorism laws, nice huh. :| Hey, Congress passsed it, not me.

I'll just say is so sad how in these cases science turns into a matter of choice... if you believe in theories or not. You might disagree with it but with FACTS, an open mind and not with prejudices. If you really want to know why your teacher disagree just ask her.

I believe in creation. Just look at the world. Yeah there is pain and suffering but still I would rather believe that we were created and have a prupose rather than just coming from a cosmic explosion. When I look at the world I see a lot of beauty in nature and it just doesn't make sense that it is all random. That everything works out just right. A bit closer to the sun an we would all be fried. A little bit further and we would be ice.

Science backs up evolution. the teacher probably meant that the complexity of our world backs up creation which is an entirely different argument than evolution. science would back up both evolution and creation if you take it from that perspective. but it never does not back up evolution.

KM, Science doesn't back up Creation without any kind of evolution. I don't get why some Christians are so hung up on evolution, as though it disproves the existence of God. I believe in God myself, but I also believe in evolution. It takes place in front of our very eyes if we look. For instance, even just a couple of decades ago, robins found it very hard to perch in a certain position, and did nearly all their feeding on the ground. But because bird feeders have become so popular, robins have developed a way of perching onto the feeders. We have always put out peanuts and sunflower seeds during the winter, and even in just the past five years we have found that robins find it much easier to hold onto the feeders than they used to, and are quite comfortable feeding that way.

 

I believe in Creation AND evolution - ie that yes, perhaps humans did evolve from apes, but that God also 'added' something to make them unique from all other animals. I mean there are so many differences between man and other animal species - we can laugh and cry and feel happy and sad and look back to the past, and forward to the future, but above all we have a knowledge of right and wrong which no other creature has. If a cat kills a bird, it isn't doing 'wrong' because it doesn't understand what 'wrong' is.

 

As far as I know, all the Coldplay guys believe in God (certainly Chris does) but not in a Fundamentalist, obsessive way. They have many questions, which is what X and Y is meant to be about. Saying that life consists of a combination of wonderful things and terrible ones.

Re why your teacher says science backs up creation KM, that is probably because she's a Biblical Fundamentalist. There are millions of them out there, especially in the US - gullible, brainwashed idiots who believe that every single word in the Bible is LITERALLY true, eg a six day Creation, that the world is only 6-8,000 years old (and therefore that the devil has invented fossils to kid mankind!!) I get some of my most hilarious moments from reading Fundamentalist websites - there is even one where they discuss (with completely straight faces!) how Noah disposed of the manure on the ark!!!

 

And hey, you guys who say you wouldn't touch this issue - we are Coldplay fans, and therefore highly intelligent, rational people who can discuss ANYTHING!:smiley: Sure, we might offend someone, but that's life - we shouldn't avoid any possibly contentious subject. We don't want threads which only deal with who has the sexiest pectoral muscles, Guy or Chris!
