 Good job Therese!!! :laugh4: omg ok I admit I kind of flipped when I saw her. holy shit duuuuude. She's radiant in person. I'm really jealous of Carl :uhoh: Seriously, I don't know who couldn't fall for her.

Ok, so I've got an idea. Since we're all a bit shaken and feel really alienated and ostrasized on this forum (I know I do) let's remind ourselves why we're posting here. Maybe compile a list of 3-5 reasons why you love:

a]The Libertines

b]Peter Doherty

c]Babyshambles

d]Dirty Pretty Things

e]Carlos Barat

(I'd put the rest of the band members but yeah ;) We'll compile a big list whenever we can't think of anymore and then if anyone ever insults our honor or credibility again, we'll point to it! So I'll start... (Maybe try not to be TOO general, either, and support yourself if you are haha don't mean to sound like a teacher but it'd be cool to yanno, impress the people who need impressing from us)

a]The Libertines

1. Their honesty. The lyrics are from the heart, from the deepest recesses in their souls. They're not afraid to let everything out. They're not afraid to say the word "cunt" in a song. They'll write about rape, and death, and drugs ("brown" mainly). That may be disgusting, but they always wrote about love, lust, sex and beauty. They don't cover up with cliches, or pointless "i love yooou"'s or anything cheesy. It's simply the truth, it's their lives.

2. The basslines. Seriously, listen to the bassline on 'Boys In The Band'. There is a run in there that is simply brilliant. John Hassal is a hero of mine. I cannot figure this run out!! I don't think Didz can either, I heard DPT playing this at sound check and he just sort of messed around at that part :laugh4: So brilliant.

3. The live shows. They played like there was no tomorrow, like any minute they could be dead, and that seeped over into the audience. You live for now and the future and meditate on the past when you go to a Libertines gig. And although I never did, I certainly own DVDs and countless downloaded live performances where you can see this emotion portrayed on the audience's faces. It's beautiful. Sure, they were violent (both the audience with each other, and the band members with each other). Yes, half the band might not turn up. But each show was an event, not just "another day, another gig". It was life and death, and it was beautiful.

4. The secret gigs in their flats. Announced through their message board by the band members themselves, they would have actual gigs in their homes, sometimes with so many people turning up they'd pour over into the halls, out the windows, in the street. It destroyed the barrier between the artist and the fan, making them real people. Although I don't live in London nor did I know of these things when they were happening, just hearing the stories, seeing the pictures, it makes me respect Peter and Carl that much more. They cared (still do care) about us fans, more so than (in my opinion) any other band has since or before. They opened their homes to us, and we opened our hearts to them.

I'll let other people start on the rest, I'm typed out!

EDIT: You don't have to put like, a bunch of things on why you love each of the bands/peter&carl that I listed ;) I'm just looking for evidence on each thing to support our claims that they're KICK. ASS. ;)

b] Peter Doherty

1. The poet. In my eyes Peter truly is a poet, wheater it's lyrics or actual poems.

Watching videos of him or even interviews where he come up with these amazing lines that just no poet today could even think about coming up with. Just read the lyrics to Albion, Beg steal or borrow, Billy Bilo, I love you (But you're green) or any other song, noone in the world comes close to his lyrical genious and feel to it. He truly is a living poet.

2. The chaos. You never know what to expect and whatever he's doing you never know how it's gonna end. Watching a Coldplay interview you pretty much know what's gonna be said but Peter can just start dancing in the middle of it or start talking about completely random stuff that doesn't have anything to due with the subject. Yes, the chaos leads to missing/cancelled gigs and I don't love that to much but still. Without a bit of chaos he wouldn't be Peter.

3. The voice. Again back to the honesty, but has there been anyone that had had such a brutally honest voice? I don't think so. Listening to some songs you can really feel the hurt he feels just cause it's so fucking honest. Just listen to Can't stand me now, Cyclops and then try to tell me otherwise.. And I love how he doesn't care if he releases a song where his voice cracks, he just wants it to sound like it does live.

That will have to do for now...

c] Babyshambles

1) Drew and Adam. I can't think of two more people that are more underrated and underappreciated then these two. Over the past two years they've had to put up with Peter in his drunken/high days. They've seen people come and go and it has always been the two of them that has had to pull the band together. Just look at Jools Holland last year. I literally cried when I saw them holding the performance together.

They are amazing human beings and could easily have given up but they don't cause they see something the rest of the world can't see. The strength and the courage of them just blows me away. The fact that they themselves say that they sometimes feel they need to give up but that they just can't makes me love them even more...

And apart from being amazing human beings they are amazing musicians. Something that a lot of people choose to ignore.

The best two men there are out there.

WTF AT COLDPLAYING.

WHY WON'T IT LET ME POST MY COMMENT :bigcry:

Oy, I hope coldplaying let's me post my comments now.

b]Peter Doherty

5. His respect for fans. Never has a show gone by when he has not thrown something out to the crowd, be it a hat, a setlist, a shirt or even a guitar. He's given away downloads of songs for free over the internet, and is never one to shy away from speaking the truth so we fans know it. It may come across to others that with the canceled gigs he doesn't give a shit, but the man is no saint and we know that. We respect him and his problems, give him distance when he needs it, and we are repayed ten fold. He throws himself into the crowd, and lets the crowd throw themselves onto HIM.

6. His sense of style. ;)

d] Dirty Pretty Things

1. Carl's lyrics. See: lyrics to BURMA.

2. The dueling guitars. Carl and Anthony are both genius guitarists, and they compliment each other perfectly. When one is the filler, the other goes off on a solo and vice versa. For an example, see Gentry Cove.

3. The love between them for each other. Ok, seriously, gayest band ever. But all jokes aside, it's obvious they're all very fond of each other on a friendship (:sneaky:) level, it makes the live shows that much more intimate.

4. The live shows. As close as a Libertines as I could get, they connect with the audience on a deep, deep level. They make you forget where you are for an hour, you just hang on for dear life and give in to the music. Absolutely blinding.

5. The balance between Carl and Didz voice. Didz starts two songs, Enemy and You Fucking Love It, giving you a good sense of balance with Carl's voice. Just when you may need a break, it adds a whole new sound. Plus Didz voice is amazing.

6. They're amazing to photograph.

Seriously: http://www.flickr.com/photos/rocknserve/sets/72157594242094835/

Doherty drug rehab forces band to halt tour

TROUBLED rocker Pete Doherty and his band Babyshambles pulled out of last night's planned gig in Glasgow to give the singer more time to recover from drug rehab treatment.

The band postponed their remaining dates - in Nottingham, Manchester and Newcastle - to allow their frontman to concentrate on his battle against drug addiction, an EMI spokesman said.

Doherty has had a number of drug-related court appearances this year and last month was receiving rehab treatment at the Priory clinic.

Yesterday's announcement - made just hours before the show at Carling Academy - comes after the singer reportedly had a "bust-up" with his supermodel girlfriend Kate Moss earlier in the week after a Babyshambles gig in London.

An EMI spokesman said yesterday: "It has become clear that Peter embarked on this arduous and high-profile tour too soon after his discharge, and still needs time to recover from his extensive rehab treatment.

"Peter asks that he be given the time and space to continue his excellent effort to recover.

"The band apologises to fans but hope they will understand the importance of Peter being able to best continue his good progress in recovering from addiction.

"The dates will be rearranged for as soon as possible and all tickets will remain valid."

Last month, Doherty, in court on drugs charges, avoided jail after a judge said she was "impressed" with his attempts to beat his addiction.

The singer had pleaded guilty to five counts on possessing heroin, cocaine - of which some was crack cocaine - and cannabis. But he was allowed to continue his drug treatment and was told he would be sentenced in December.

But last night, music insiders agreed the singer needed time to recover from his treatment.

Alex Papasimakopolou, director of music management and promotions company Everymatic, said: "It makes me feel a bit sick to think about this guy. I feel sorry for everyone concerned in the tour. I know people that have worked quite closely with Pete Doherty in the past and it just seems to be a horrible circuit for him. He just needs proper time to get away and recover away from the constant pressures of performing and interviews.

"I'm sure people that buy tickets know there is an element of risk with a Doherty gig but there is all disappointment when things are cancelled."

Music critic Colin Somerville was less sympathetic, and said: "People bought tickets to see him for a reason. They know his bad boy form and his capacity to be unreasonable. He's more famous for his quasi-rebellious nature than he is for his music. Whether he's got enough talent to balance the bad boy behaviour remains to be seen."

Carling Academy last night apologised to fans and said: "The Babyshambles show has been postponed due to exhaustion. At present we expect the rescheduled date to be some time in December 2006. We ask ticket holders to keep hold of their tickets until then, as they will be valid for the re-scheduled gig. Anyone wishing a refund should take their tickets back to original point of purchase."

Yesterday's postponement follows a chequered year for a band whose name has become synonymous with shock and debauchery.

Doherty rose to fame with rock band The Libertines but was asked to leave in 2003 after falling out with lead singer Carl Barât over his drug addiction.

Since their formation in the same year, new band Babyshambles have attracted unprecedented attention due to Doherty's enduring drug troubles, their shambolic live performances and their frequent failures to show up at scheduled gigs.

A year ago last week, the Babyshambles tour bus was raided by police and Doherty was charged on suspicion of possession of Class A drugs.

In February he made a much-anticipated appearance at the NME awards, performing with his band and picking up an award for Sexiest Male.

In April, on the day of Babyshambles' scheduled appearance at a Love Music Hate Racism rally in Trafalgar Square, Doherty was arrested for drug possession.

The following month, the singer sparked outrage when he squirted the contents of a syringe at a camera being used by MTV reporters, in Berlin. It was later found to be fake blood bought as a prank.

In June, Doherty was banned from the easyJet airline after suspected drug use on a flight to Barcelona.

Doherty's professional career has been given considerably more coverage than his contemporaries, following his surprise pairing with supermodel Moss early last year. The couple allegedly split last September after Moss was filmed snorting cocaine in a music studio with Doherty. She later fled to rehab in America. They are believed to have rekindled their relationship this summer.

Last night's cancellation came as a surprise to some who believed Doherty was on the road to recovery.

In August, Babyshambles were signed up with major record label EMI/Parlophone, which has worked with such high-profile acts as Blur, Kylie and Coldplay.
