I can't help but think "Spies" is a completely different song than any other Coldplay has done. I mean, all their other songs, I think, sound like authentic Coldplay but whenever I hear Spies I almost hear a different band/style entirely. Does anyone else feel the same way?

I know exactly what you mean, I have that feeling when I listen to it to, hah. I've never heard any other song that could cause emotions like that, so cool.

Yeah I know... it's a very different vein for Coldplay. I LOVE this song though. The bass and drums and guitar... AH. Just awesome. :)

it makes me think about parinoia and the cold war, etc. and i agree about the different type of song thing, but i LOVE it. its my moms favorite coldplay song too.

Sweetie, I have to disagree with you... I think this is one of the most Coldplay-like of theirs. That's Coldplay-core kind of song to me. Like, true to the intention that Coldplay has when they create their music: Break your heart, Bring the emotions, Be a little (a lot, actually!) melancolic, have a tiny bit of a good outcome at the end ("They can't touch you, no. 'Cause they are spies"), soft musicality, beautiful heart breaking sound (specially in the beginning of the music), Chris going up and down with his voice, oh so many Coldplay-esque stuff in it!!!! It's Coldplay all the way, Up and Down, Left and Right (and soooo right!) !!!!

 

But it's just my opinion... ;)

I agree that spies is VERY different from the others, but most of the other songs take some time to understand, as the meaning doesnt come through straight away. Here I think he describes what if feels like to be a world-wide known singer. You are always surrounded by ppl, no matter where you go. I understand how he feels, it must be hard...

I understand what you mean. I, myself can't describe, but this song makes me feel totally different. It's one of my favourite songs in general. Chris' vocals in this is just gorgeous, and must I add, he sounds really sexy too, lol.

It's a wonderful song. It does elicit a certain feeling when listening to it. I know it does to me.

I consider Parachutes to follow a very similar formula, but all the songs are different. The same goes for the other albums. Spies is, however, ingenious ;)
