Because they don't look pretty

Okay, not saying this to agree with Gwyneth because I really don't care and I don't know her but...

I hate, hate, hate being around drunk people. it makes me very nervous and uncomfortable. My grandfather actually has been a lifetime alcoholic and I've seen the effects of that on one whole side of my family, and the few times I've been at parties with very very drunk people, it made me very nervous and antsy. That's part of the reason I just don't go to parties. I don't mind DRINKING... i drink sometimes too, but people getting out of their mind and acting stupid... I don't find it nice either. :(

The image of Chris taking the kids ice skating, however, is adorable! :D

Kind of agree with you there. Some people can hadle themselves better than others when they've had a few drinks, but I know that when my mom decides to have a few drinks and ends up drunk (not to the point of vomiting or stumbling, just enough to get obnoxious) I can't stand to be around her and start feeling very bad for anyone who had to grow up with alcoholic parents. It's like her personality gets turned up by 1000 and any resentment or anger she might have felt in the last few months comes to the surface. She also talks nonstop and finds herself to be pretty clever and insightful. Im glad she doesnt drink frequently. Myself Ive only been drunk once and didn't really like the feeling of it. Ive never drank enough to be sick but 3 drinks is enough for me to lose all balance, and I dont much like not being in control of my legs.

I've just hd a quick look at that GUFF site, sorry GOOP - I dunno who she thinks her demographic is, but it ain't me.

I'm not one to criticise, she seems quite genuine, if this website's keeping her happy and busy - fair enough. Good luck to it. But how far removed is her life from normal people's lives..?

i completely agree with you: i get uncomfortable and nervous around drunk people too, and that's reason #1 why i don't go to parties as well. i'm not anti-alcohol, i'm anti misuse of alcohol.

anyway, yeah, gwyneth was a bit out of line with that comment. i think she should think a bit more about how what she says sounds to other people most of the time. however, in this case, i can't say i entirely disagree with her point of view on this topic either. another case of me giving her the benefit of the doubt, i guess . but i think in general, i take people for whati think they mean to say most of the time rather than how they say it.

Is Gwyneth going to be at the Golden Globes tonight?

I don't think so, but just wondering...

i was wondering that too. i think she might be, even though i don't think any of her movies are up for anything. people like her are always invited to these things to my knowledge, and i don't think she's one to pass up a red carpet party :D

i'll look for her :nice:

krystyna- I agree with you! It's the people who suddenly transform from SLIGHTLY bitter or upset about something to fountains of anger and mean comments... or, you know... just other unpleasant things. It's not a fun thing to be around... and it seems that a lot of people end up that way and some of them end up violent. I've seen firsthand the effects of it.

ApproximatelyInfinite- I love you so much lol. And yes, I completely agree with your "not anti-alcohol, just anti-misuse of alcohol" statement. That's such a better way to say it... but considering I'm a writer, I take the long way around with everything lol.

Please keep us informed about the Golden Globes tonight! I never get to watch any of the shows but am always geeked with InStyle does their feature on it later. I usually don't like the choices for nominations or wins at any of the major award shows, but the clothes are like complete dessert for me. :D So can't wait to see!!!!

This is from the AV Club and made me laugh:

Gwyneth Paltrow's Only Friends Are Mirrors

By Amelie Gillette January 9, 2009

Good news, everyone! Gwyneth Paltrow feels sorry for us because we don't enjoy wallowing in her goopy condescension. Also, she thinks that negativity is a terrible cocaine substitute, or something:

From USA Today:

Q: When actors or artists do something different, they open themselves up to criticism. How would you respond to the people who are critical of your latest endeavor?

Gwyneth Paltrow: I think part of the problem is people get a hit of energy when they are negative about something, and it is a very detrimental way for them to get that hit of energy. They do not understand why they do not have a happy life. That kind of stuff is just noise to me. I just feel sorry for them.

So if critical thought is a detrimental way to get "hits of energy," then unmitigated condescension must be the GOOPy way of getting energized, right, Gwyneth? Thanks for leading by example. After all, she could have just said something like, "I don't mind criticism. There's going to be people that like Goop.com, and people that don't. I hope people like it." But then she would have missed out on a great opportunity for a condescension high. She must have been so speedy when she left the interview. Then there's this:

"I have this incredible, blessed, sometimes difficult, very lucky, very unique life, and I've gotten to travel all over the place and to work and live in different cities. … I go on tour with my husband and go to cities I would never necessarily go to. So I started accruing all of this information. I am the person my friends call when they want to know: "I am redoing this bathroom, and I want a sink that looks midcentury, but a contemporary version of a midcentury. Where should I go?"

Two words: Pottery Barn. Sure, Gwyneth. All your "friends" are calling you all the time with questions like, "I want a sink that looks midcentury, but a contemporary version of a midcentury," or "I want a new chandelier for the foyer that's ostentatious, but, like, ostentatious in the Moroccan-casino-in-1953 sense," or "Where can I find a reputable organic plastic surgeon" If that's true, then it's true for exactly two people: Gwyneth Paltrow and her equally smug, inquisitive friend. Just start a very small circulation newsletter called FABA (for assholes, by assholes), and leave everyone else out of it. Why have a website at all? Oh right, the condescension high. Something tells me that no one has ever asked Paltrow anything like that question, except maybe herself. If you were to visit her while she's working on her GOOP newsletters in her home office, high atop a giant hill made of pure, dense, cottony smugness, you'd probably find her sitting on the floor in front of a giant mirror and holding a child's play telephone to her ear, saying, "Oh, I'm so glad you called! Of course I know where you could get a antique doorstop in the pre-Warhol pop art style."

nah, gwyneth wasn't at the golden globes, in case anyone was wondering.

watching the red carpet made me hopeful for a chris-with-gwyneth appearance at the grammys. it's a damned if they do, damned if they don't situation, but i think they should just do it. pose for a few pictures, hold hands for a few minutes, let the tabloids look stupid. then they can go along their merry lives for a bit until the next big thing blows up.

besides, i want to see two gorgeous people, both of whom (whom? that's one of the few grammar things that i never get right) i love, together on the red carpet :wacky:

have read on the german ok magazine, a few weeks ago, that their marriage isn't in a good condition

Throughout that whole AV Club article I kept reading "condescension" as "condensation", and I was like "what??" :P

And I think that Chris ice-skating must be one of the funniest things on earth... I can't imagine that he's too good at it!

Shit no.

Just no. She's got good intentions and all, and is pretty ambitious, but I say please don't.

I just happened to notice this peice of news today about Gwyneth!!

Check this out!!!

Hopefully it won't happen the same like when a few different celebs were opening up 'Planet Hollywood' which soon went bankrupt after its opening ... :(

I don't mind celebrities doing their own business as long as they strongly believe in it.

But there's a big downside: Whenever there will go something wrong in this gym-chain all this negative things will backfire on Gwyneth name ... :(

But on the other hand:

She is old enough and will probably also have advisors to turn to.

From what some people have said online, Tracy Anderson's gyms are pretty poorly run and mega expensive. Apparently she also owes money to former clients as well for closing one of her gyms without warning. If any of that is true then I hope Gwyn doesn't get involved in any of her business dealings...

And even if it's not true or just 'semi true' it will put a negative light on Gwyneth in case she will get involved with it. :(

oy freaking vey. i don't think she should do it. tracy anderson sounds a bit fishy, and i doubt gwyneth would be much more involved than having a quote and her picture endorsing the gyms...and funding it, of course.

i'd bet she could think of much better things to do, like starting a charity or something.

^is that tracy walking next to her in that photo? she's tiny!

then again, gwyneth's really tall, and i shouldn't talk at all, because i'm really short. tracy and i are probably the same height
