How Crazy is your Country about the World Cup?

Featured Replies

Ok, Ive seen threads about the world cup already, and i already knew how crazy brazilians were about the World Cup (or just football in general).

But today i was at the airport waiting for my flight to come back home and watching Australia vs Japan, and i started noticing how EVERY single person in the food court wouldnt take their eyes from the television. Old people, young people, guys, girls, kids... everyone was concentrated on the game, and it wasnt even Brazil who was playing!!

But that just doesnt show how INSANE brazilians are about the World Cup! The country is gonna stop for this event, and i mean it LITERALLY ! Malls are closing half an hour before brazil's games and re-opening half an hour later. I dont have classes on the days Brazil plays. Companies are leting their employees get out earlier. Buses are gonna stop during the matches, etc, etc, etc.

I just started wondering if theres any other place where a country actually STOPS functioning because of the World Cup... So, is your country as crazy for football as mine??

Absolutely crazy here in Germany... :nice:

I cant wait til tomorrow!!! I have to work just after brazil's match (i work in a hotel, which unfortunatelly, cant stop). Ill prob be uber drunk probably!!

:laugh4:

I have never seen this country (england) get them selves in such a state over the game.....

in france, maybe too much coz they think about winning like in 1998...

And zidane here, zidane there...

I get enough with him....

I wouldn't say peolpe in Switzerland are crazy about the World Cup compared to England, Germany or whatever. It's definitely important for Swiss people to but you don't see many flags and those kind of things. Our team definitely gets more support since it's more successful. Still there are many people who don't believe in our team. I mean they'd already consider it as pretty good if we don't go through but maybe win one match. This is one thing which really annoys me, Swiss people need to believe more in our team. Anyway, I think this changed a bit now....

it's the same here - in Czech Republic. Everybody talks about it, everybody watches it. Uh, I've never been a big fan of footbal.

I love ice hockey, but, to be honest - it's hard to ignore the world cup  the flags, t-shirts...it's everywhere

well, I think that my nation loves our footbal team as strong as our ice hockey team,

and why not? We have to believe in something

Well Russia isn't in the World Cup this time... But still, many people watch every match on tv and there're many people in football bars every evening, that's for sure. I don't know if my country is crazy about WC, but it's interested for sure

here in the States.. its not as crazy as in other countries... but you do have the hispanic community as well as europeans that live here now getting into it. I've always been into football (soccer) grew up on it... so, the world cup is a big thing for us.

the American public needs to get more involved in it.... give MLS a chance.. but its not our fault the players suck ass.... lol

Totally freakin' mental.

really crazy!!!!! watch this:

Hahah.........I think you can guess..hehe....

One thing I've seen today I've never seen before...

I drove through the village and sudenly I saw this biiiig Germany flag hanging in the middle of the village!

This looks definitely like in America...it's crazy!

For me it's weird to pass this....

and here almost everyone has a Germany flag at their car!:D

I love it!

My signature flag rules you all though.

^ we shall have you converted by the end of the tournament.

I think I'm speaking for all of us Southamericans by saying we ARE NUTS. Last Saturday was out game, and I was looking through the window and I realised there was nobody out there. I mean...no-one. Every cap-driver in town was probably in some bar (they have the coolest and friendliest environment ever BTW).

Next game is on Friday, and being a week day is more complicated to stop doing stuff, not that we care. A teacher had set a test for that day, and he kept saying 'I don't know about you guys, but I'm out of here by 9 to watch the game', knowing we wouldn't be able to get out in time unless our parents picked us up, so of course we spoke our mind, and there's not much you can do when you have 30 teenagers crazy about footie against you. We got him to change his mind, have the test the same day but setting an alternative date for those who are not going (most of us).

So....yeah, pretty crazy about the World Cup

No one likes football/soccer where I live.

Yeah.

I was watching the Mexico vs. Iran match a few days ago and my relatives were all "Oh sh**, I thought the basketball game was this afternoon!" and they went to look at the TV and saw that I was watching soccer and got all disappointed.

really crazy!!!!! watch this:

i knew about this event of course but i had never seen the real thing...who is the woman singing? i couldn't recognise her...

i think thats why the president just instituted that all government employees would only work til one hour before the games. And all other places just know that there wont be a living soul on the streets, so why stay open?? This country really stops for the WC!!
