How Crazy is your Country about the World Cup?

Featured Replies

i think thats why the president just instituted that all government employees would only work til one hour before the games. And all other places just know that there wont be a living soul on the streets' date=' so why stay open?? This country really stops for the WC!![/quote']

I think the best part of it is that it brings people closer, no local teams involved. I mean, I've walked by bars while the game was on, and there was such brotherhood between the guys there, I love it. I watched it with my bro, and it was probably the first thing we've watched on TV together without fighting.

I'm sure my school is gonna be empty on Friday, and people that will be there are all gonna watch the game or listen to it at least. I'm gonna be home alone (wohoooo)

Canada... Not too crazy at all. There are some people who watch it but frankly I couldn't care less about who wins, I just like to watch it if nothing else is on.

im living in mexico .. ppl are mad over here .. they are real passioned bout it .... alltought they always said .. i dont think we're gona win :P

I think I'm speaking for all of us Southamericans by saying we ARE NUTS.

:laugh3: :laugh3: SO TRUE

No one likes football/soccer where I live.

Yeah.

I was watching the Mexico vs. Iran match a few days ago and my relatives were all "Oh sh**, I thought the basketball game was this afternoon!" and they went to look at the TV and saw that I was watching soccer and got all disappointed.

hahaha same here! i posted a blog that had "yay! the WC started!" and most of my friends were just like...who the hell cares.

most ppl in the states don't even know that the WC started. but my dad and i like it! but i guess it's cuz we're not really...well, white. hah! yay for south asians who like footie.

Basically every country in the world is obsessed with the World Cup except for America. It pisses me off sometimes that we are so isolated in the US. Everyone only cares about the NFL and NBA here. :dozey:

But yeah, my friends always say "why do Europeans call it football, that's so stupid! it should be called soccer." Yeah, comments like that make me feel embarrassed to be an American. :\ Luckily my dad loves soccer so we're watching the WC together. :D

this is the first time australia has qualified to be in the world cup in 32 years or something to that effect. whatever, it's 30 something years, so right now it's like the biggest deal in sporting history for us. kinda funny really, everyone's jumping on the footy bandwagon, but it's great to see everyone so damn excited and just so frikken happy. it's like when we hosted the olympics on 2000, it was like the world had stopped for that sporting event. we're obviously not as crazy as your country mari! but damn it's nice to see everyone so excited and hyped up! :nice:

Turkish people are generally crazy about football. World Cup is so important but we are not in this competition now. But i still remember the celebrations when Turkey was 3rd in the last one. :)

Well of course Italians are totally crazy about football..I bet you all know, but I think brasilians are the craziest for sure

any way gooo Italy imagephp9lf.giftricolore2bo.gif:dance:

 brazill are sadly going to beat our asses on thursday :whip:

Ha congrats Bonners and I'm sure Australia will kick Brazil's arse

thankies val, i hope so too heheh :nice:

we haven't been to the world cup in 30 something years, everyone was betting against us in the japanese match but we steam rolled them 3-1 and japan didn't even deserve their goal, the japanese guy pushed our goal keeper out of the way so he couldn't guard, and it was a clear foul, but the referee didn't see! soooo disappointing. he apologised after anyway for allowing the goal. anyway, we won 3-1 when it should be 3-0 so it's a greattt feeling! :nice:

though Swazecher (however its spelt) did get casually to the ball leading to his mistiming his jump. But that ref was really bad he didn't give Japan a penalty when he should've -Cahill fouled the Japanese player.

lol TV is all Australia and repitition of the goals and one reporter hit it on the nail:

Its not just as if we won a match its like we won the World Cup lol.

Ausssie Ausiie Ole Ole!!!

How can you say that?! :shocked3:

you never know - Brazil has been beaten and the best teams on paper don't always win on the pitch.

Oh yeah' date=' um, oh no we're doomed........ please help us......... oh no.[/quote']

 LOL

oh sammy boy you make me laugh

Even though my country isn't even playing in the World Cup, we still love the WC.. It's such a great event!!

Chile is a biiig futbol fan.. We were really sad about being disqualified, but we still watch the WC..

As far as I know, tha ratings here for the WC matches are huge!!

We love futbol!!

Instead, we dont follow basquetball or other sports so much..

Since the "0-0", we are disappointed and we prefer to talk about something else!

:smug:

people here in germany are going freakin bonkers because of the world cup ...

there are flags everywhere ... (not only german flags though)

i like the fact that we're kinda patriotic again ,... since we weren't very proud of being german before ... (that's what they're all writing in the newspapers; we won back our patriotism)

:)

today i went to that tiny little shop to buy a german flag.

it was sooo cheap (1,90€) since everybody wants a flag and all the other nation's flags are expensive (except for brasil; it's 1,90€ as well)

i went there with my friend (who is portuguese) and she wanted to buy that portuguese flag and had to pay 9,90€!! :D

Finland isn't really a football country(should be :P) so people aren't really crazy about it ..
