Coldplay front man Chris Martin has fuelled speculation that the band are set to split.

 

Speaking in Hong Kong, Martin [pictured] admitted that it might be some time before the band release another album.

 

"We won't do another album until we think we've written the best songs in history, and that could take a while, so we could be waiting, 20 years or 50 years. Who knows? All we know is we're playing this evening in Hong Kong." he said. "And tomorrow, we don't know what's happening. So our next record seems like a long way away."

 

Martin and fellow band members Guy Berryman (Bass), Johnny Buckland (Guitar) and Will Champion (drums) are in Asia for their Twisted Logic Tour.

 

They used a press conference ahead of the gig to talk about their commitment to the Fair Trade campaign. The Oxfam initiative lobbies against trade policies that hurt developing countries, such as the influx of goods from developed countries.

 

Martin said that the band did not want to impose its political beliefs on others but felt an obligation to use their celebrity for a good cause. "We're just musicians and obviously we are not as well versed as many politicians are," he said. "But if we can just get those words into every article that's written about us, then we're doing our job."

haha yeah. And besides, did they say in Australia that they might be back there in 2008? So yeah, I agree with you - I don't think it will take that long.

 

I'd laugh if someone actually beleived that it WAS going to take 20 or 50 years... that is really... unrealistic.

They've released 3 albums!!! They haven't exactly been around for years like when the Beatles split! They're still a really young band, believe it or not. No-one calls it quits this early! Especially when they're this successful! If anyone believes this...I'm sorry, but you're kinda gullible, and you've never heard Chris speak...ever. He's always kidding! And people should realize that in 50 years, the band members might not even be alive...so obviously he's kidding!

If you hear him say that sentence in the interview, you can tell he's just exaggerating to put things in perspective. When you take speech onto paper, things get misconstrued and the contexxt of the staement gets all weirded up.

 

And yeah, like alyssa said: if you're going to be a Coldplay fan you have to learn to take everything that the tabloids and Chris says with a grain of salt. Don't truly beleive it until you see it on the website or if it happens. :)

i've seen the interview on mtv and they were like :stunned: about that bit of news .... :dozey:

i actually hope they take at least 6 months off... they are gonna be having kids maybe johnny will get married, they are probably tired and want to spend time with their families. And maybe it will refresh their musical minds and eventually create a masterpiece.
