Gorillaz - Demon Days

The Herd - the sun never sets

been listening to it non stop.

 

From its opening track "unpredictable" (my fav song) one feels that your in for a treat. Its sung in Czech, Spanish, with some Mandarin and Italian put into the mix.

and all the way through the album there is no one lull in the direction that music takes you- like track one suggests "no one in The Herd, controls The Herd thats why we're unpredictable". It helps that they started their own record label.

I really love how they mix things up even opening up with a line from the movie "The Third Man"

"Nobody thinks in terms of human beings. Governments don't. Why should we? They talk about the people and the proletariat, I talk about the suckers and the mugs - it's the same thing" Harry Lime (Orsen Welles) then the beats begin to pump and your in for the ride.

What i also love are the softer moments especially with the beautiful voice of the female singer which blends so well with the rhyming of the three MCs.

Its political hard hitting, lyrical, fun and of course unpredictable :)

 

as you can see really love the album---and sorry for my rant lol.

 

 

P.S: ^ get the album with the sticker above, they re-issued the album becasue one song "i was only ninteen" which (was a cover from the band Redgum) they played for a radio station- was so popular they had to add it to the new album version.

OK, I am going to recommend an album now. And I strongly urge you to listen to it and not just ignore it because you do not like the band.

 

 

 

Foo Fighters - Foo Fighters (s/t)

 

 

This album, the first Foo Fighters record, is nothing like any of the Foo Fighters you would have heard on the radio. This is straight out grunge.

 

The entire album is performed by Dave Grohl (Nirvanas former drummer), guitars (except for one on one track), bass, drums and vocals. And almost all the songs were written during his Nirvana days.

 

I picked up this album again today, after not listening to it for at least a few months and it was like my first time of hearing it again. This album has always had sentimental value for me, that may be why I like it so much, I'm not sure. But it is truly amazing. The brilliance of Dave Grohl's songwriting ability shines through amazingly. And you can have fun spotting as many Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love references as possible. Including the infamous line from "I'll Stick Around" - 'I don't owe you anything!'

 

And the closing track, 'Exhausted', is probably the best closer I've heard. Except for perhaps A Day in the Life, Street Spirit and The Tourist.
