80s - Joy Division, The Smiths, Talking Heads, Sonic Youth, R.E.M., Einstuerzende Neubauten, Tom Waits

rest - good question, huh?

EDIT: jeez, it took some time

I voted for 60s

why?

Because love this rock era.....psychedelic rock like the Doors or Jimi Hendrix

and not to forget the Who

Herbie Hancock as well....

but I like the Radiohead era and this era we are currently in very much as well...

Same as Nik but put 50's between rest and 80's.

60's for me: The Who, The Rolling Stones, Beatles, Animals, Miles Davis, Bob Dylan etc

50's: Elvis, Louis Armstrong, Sinatra etc

70's: Pink Floyd, Miles Davis etc

00's:Explosions In The Sky, Radiohaed etc

90's: Radiohead, Godspeed You! Black Emperor etc

Rest: Louis Armstrong, classical music etc =80's: Iron Maiden, Metallica

i picked 90's..but there are bands that i like from all decades

90 > 60 > 70 > rest.

90s - Radiohead, that's enough for me :cheesy: Not really, Elliott Smith, REM, Air, Blur, The Verve etc.

60s - The Zombies, The Beatles, The Kinks, The Animals, Bob Dylan, The Yardbirds, Gilbert O'Sullivan, The Beach Boys, The Velvet Underground, Marvin Gaye, Bobby Darin, The Doors, The Moody Blues, etc.

70s - Elvis Costello, Neil Young, Queen.

The rest is mostly 40-50s. Especially Billie Holiday and Charles Trenet.

I put 60s, but I like alot of stuff from other decades too.

I'd say 60's hands down. I completely love that decade

nik, you start great threads.

i raelly can't decide right now. my mind is all over the place about the U2 concert and other stuff..i'll subconsciously be thinking about it and post later. at the moment i'm thinking the 90s but the 70s was a momumental time in music history...etc...

I voted for 00s. Why?

Well, it certainly hasn't been a very great decade as far as new stuff goes. Hip hop has completly taken over, and not even interesting hip hop either- completly paint-by-numbers. Add to that a music industry in turmoil from it's own inability to effectivley adapt to changing technology and listening habits, and you've got a big mess.

BUT, this is for the first time, a decade where any layman can have an unprecidented access to music- any place, any era. I can come on here and say how fantastic Wintersleep is, and how amazing they were live when I saw them last Saturday opening for Sam Roberts, and someone in Japan or Brazil or Russia or Austrailia or wherever can look them up and get an idea of who they are.

If I were to go back to the 60's because I liked the music so much, I may have direct access to the whole era, but no one would know what punk rock is. I may love 90's britpop, but I couldn't balance all the arrogance out with a bit of Coldplay when the 90's were actually happening. I don't know anyone who used to be into the older stuff that I like now, so I couldn't find out about it that way. Oldies stations only play what was really popular. This is the first era where all of music's history is openend up for exploring. I can listen to Stars, The Clash, and a bit of Chopin all in one sitting if I want to.

Most importantly, I don't have to rely on the radio to tell me what to listen to anymore. This is Canadian music's golden age in many ways, but hardly anything worth listening to actually gets attention on the airwaves, in spite of Canadian content laws.

Right now, I can find whatever it is on my own. :nice: And that's what I love about this decade.

70's : Pink Floyd, Pink Floyd, Pink Floyd

and just behind : 90's and 00's (Radiohead, Muse, Coldplay, Jeff Buckley...)

I picked the 00s.

BUT WHERE THE HECK IS U2?!?!?!

80's all the way baby - Rick Astley, Musical Youth, Tiffany, Kylie and Jason the list is endless.

8os and 90s!! Proper GRUNGE music! Nirvana, Mudhoney, Pixies, Melvins, all that stuff!! and 90s definatly for Radiohead too!

I picked 90s (Probably since I grew up in the 90s and listening to a lot of music from that decade), but there's tons of great bands and artists in this era and in the 60s and 70s.

  • 4 months later...

this is difficult because there is some great music in every decade :)

I voted a lonnnnggg time ago in this, I can't even remember my pick.

But I'm still offended Nik didn't mention U2.
