Brian Eno Producing New Coldplay Album

He will try to fix them

25947.enocoldplaynews.jpg

In an interview with Kristy Lang on BBC Radio 4's Front Row program today, producer/musician/artist/god Brian Eno revealed that he is producing the next Coldplay album. "I think [the album] will be very original and very different from what they've done before," Eno said.

Well, that's good to know.

Lang and Eno had been discussing the Talking Heads' influence on current pop music, so Lang had to ask if the new Coldplay album will sound at all like that band.

Eno laughed and replied, "Funnily enough, I mentioned to David Byrne the other day that we are trying very hard to stay clear of Talking Heads."

Whew. If there's anything worse than Coldplay trying to sound like Coldplay, it's Coldplay trying to sound like the Talking Heads.

To hear the full interview, in which Eno talks about his current art exhibits, his views on spirituality, and his take on the state of the music industry, go here.

Dude. As long as they don't go pop-tastic, this should be great news.

Thanks Nik! ;)

very welcome!

this news got me a bit excited about Coldplay once again. i hope Eno can bring something new and interesting on LP4

Man this is great!!I love the sounds Eno produces! And put that with Coldplays talent.Man this should be the best album by far!Now i really cant wait for this album!!

Awesome!! Something different. I was actually thinking about this today and X&Y just sounded like Coldplay trying to do something people would like. Not really...their own thing. I don't know.

Nik...when you said that thing about the experimental/ electronic album, I thought of Radiohead... I love Radiohead and Coldplay's music a bit more like them would be awesome.... but then it could just sound really weird. It could just sound like Coldplay trying to sound like Radiohead!!

Anyway...we'll see.

Eno? ENO??? Oh My Fucking God! *too excited to just say OMFG* Wow...just...wow!:D :D :D Thanks for posting, Nik!

As Chris would have said

could be shit, could be good

:D

YAY! COLDPLAY NEWS! :D

I'm very excited! Seems like it's gonna be great!

I'd like to think, as a producer, that I know a bit about both Coldplay and Brian Eno from a studio perspective...but for the life of me, I can't put the two together in any kind of predictable way...which is why this album is going to be so great no matter what they do. It may not get the mass acclaim of X&Y, but trust me, it's going to be a classic!

very exciting news!

interestingly, i was just listening to music for airports the other day...

Wow, very cool to hear about the new album. Can't wait to hear what it might be like.

Brian Eno producing new Coldplay album - He says it will be 'very original'

Brian Eno has revealed he is to produce Coldplay's fourth album.

Billboard.com reports that Eno revealed the news in an interview with BBC Radio 4's 'Front Row', and says the new material "will be very original and very different from what they've done before."

Coldplay are currently holed up in their recently purchased London studio, having started arranging the follow-up to 2005's 'X&Y' last October.

Guitarist Jonny Buckland last year revealed exclusively to NME.com that the band started writing the new album as soon as they completed 'X&Y'.

The band will showcase the new material to fans on their Latin American tour, which kicks off on February 14 in Santiago, Chile.

actually, i remember one of them, i guess Guy or Chris, mentioned they'll go eletronic on the next album.

+ you got Eno now. so i can't see why it couldn't happen ;)

i don't think the next album will be "Radiohead-sound-a-like". the Talking Heads influence might be quite strong, though. but it's not bad at all, till they'll bring some original sound as it was said in the article ;)

Coldplay Drafts Eno To Produce Fourth Album

coldplay_03l.gif

Coldplay has drafted Brian Eno to produce its fourth album, Eno revealed today (Jan. 26) in an interview on BBC Radio 4's "Front Row." A Coldplay spokesperson was unavailable for comment at deadline.

Eno didn't discuss the pairing in detail, but said he expected the as-yet-untitled album "will be very original and very different from what they've done before." He also joked with host Kristy Lang about the pervasiveness of rock music that resembles former Eno client the Talking Heads.

"Funnily enough, I mentioned to David Byrne the other day that we are trying very hard to stay clear of Talking Heads," he said. Eno's most recent pop production project was Paul Simon's "Surprise," released last year via Warner Bros.

As previously reported, Coldplay will debut new material during a run of dates in Latin America, beginning with a Feb. 14-16 stand in Santiago, Chile. Coldplay vocalist Chris Martin also appears on "Homecoming, the intended first single from Kanye West's next album, "Graduation."

DEAR GOD!!!!!!!!!!:o :o :o

THERE'S HOPE.... finally worthy news in 4 years!

This sounds interesting.

If they tried to rip off Radiohead it would be rather funny though. and sad.

Sounds cool, suprising, but cool, he should push them to challenge themselves as much as possible anyway. I'm thinking we're probably going more Square One and Low, albums like 'My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts' were quite heavily based on samples and such so I guess we'll probably see quite a lot more of that ie. Talk.

Apparently he produced for With Or Without You though, so maybe its not going to be that 'out-there', I dunno really, can't wait though...

Holy... *twitch*

This is the best news I've heard (Coldplay-wise) in like... ever.

Wow.

When is it coming out again? Soon? Like... now?

And I need to buy a ticket to Chile.

*Dies*

I know, I know, I know now that #4 will be sh*t.

Eno did the last album, and it was way overproduced.

If ever there was an era where Coldplay and Radiohead would be compared, than I think its going to be in the next few years. I can see them failing at what they are trying to achieve.

Yay for commercial-electro pop-rock! :whatever:
