yeah, i guess we all know those certain situations.

we're currently in love with a certain band or song or album and we want to share that joy with a sibling or friend of ours.

we burn them a cd and give it to them to listen to and after a few days we ask them how they liked it, but they'd only say something like, "ah, it was too noisy, not my favourite genre, and all in all i basically didn't listen to it because i gave up after 2 minutes."

argh.

simple music is just nice. less is more.

nah, it happened so often now i almost forgot most of it, but the most recent incident happened with my sister when i played her my current favourite songs and she made comments like,"is that even music?" or "you're not really listening to that, are you?"

i hate ignorance.

Yes, Ive tried to get people into Radiohead and most of the time they dont make the effort. Not that I don't like simple music (Gorillaz for example) I just always find more intelligent music automatically better.

People my age only listen to Britney Spears and 50 cent or whatever hip hop people they like. There's absolutely no point for me to try to get any of these people I know into anything....they live in a totally different world.

i just listen to latest songs only in my father's car radio... just to know a lil bit of em... thats because my classmates all loves latest musics but me only into coldplay!

No ignorance is the word, people just dont understand sophisticated music but the one that annoys me more is people who can't handle sadness in their music.

 

But some people just like what they've heard before, I just wish the people with bad music tastes wouldnt feel the need to critisise works like Kid A and Urban Hymns.

 

But I dont agree theres an answer between good and bad music there is personal preferance, I personally find every Beatles album other than Abbey Road annoying and to the music elitists thats blasphamy.

i think everyone is ignorant when it suits them. many people on here might not be when it comes to music.

 

if i was given a techno album, i very much doubt i'd listen to all tracks on it. i'd listen to the first few it i knew it meant a lot to a friend of mine but if i really disliked them, that would be it.

I did too listen to Radiohead!:P I guess, for me, it's a mood-dependent thing.. Sometimes i like the more up-beat sounds of pop, and now for some reason I've been listening to Enya. What category does her music fall into? It seems like simple music to me, and very moving..

I like "simple" music as you can put it on in the background when doing some other work, as something to break the silence.

I completely understand, Grace. People bash music that is 'too simple' because a sound might not be complicated or experimental...hell even 'catchy' or 'good to grind to' (when it comes to mainstream music in America, anyways). But they just can't understand the big picture of what the band has to offer. What the lyrics are trying to express, how the music flows. And it's a damn shame they don't, because some of those 'simple' bands are pure genius.

 

Just be honored that you are worthy enough to appreciate the great music you listen to. If those people are talking smack about the bands you like, well they can go fuck themselves. Because it doesn't matter what they think.

I get the same feeling a lot. I have this genre of my own that I like to call radio-pop. Basically, with all my friends or the people around me, if you ask them their favourite band it'll be like "I like Rihanna/Ashlee Simpson/Jessica Simpson/ Chris Brown/Timberland/Fall Out Boy/Avril Lavigne" and I'll be like "I like Muse, Radiohead and Coldplay and lots of other bands" and they'll all say "Who the hell are Muse and you like Coldplay!!"

 

It really bugs me, becuase all the music they like is really very 'simple' and none of them are willing to accept well writen and really very intelligent music. But what bugs me the most is if you play them a song and they like it but then you say "oh, it's Coldplay" they instantly hate it.

That's why having your music played on the radio is such a vital thing in the music industry if you want to get your name out.

I think some people don't like having to think about music while they're enjoying. They like something that's easy to get into and easy to listen to. That's why there's a Facebook group called 'Is it just me but do Radiohead suck?'.

 

When I DJ I mostly get asked for what's at the top of the chart, largely because alot of people don't want to be challenged or engaged by music, or even have to look for it, they've rather just latch onto what's in, and then pursue other activities!

 

This isn't me by the way, Radiohead are fantastic and I can't stand that awful Basshunter tune!

i must say that i'm fairily picky with the music that i like and that i listen to, but that's not to say that i don't give things a chance. i just find that in trying things out, only a few albums/bands/songs truly grab me enough to be interested.

 

i also hate that most people can't stand when the music isn't upbeat or about something happy. i don't get this. people complain that i only listen to "depressing music" like radiohead or death cab for cutie or coldplay (which i don't count as depressing save for like 5 songs), but to me, songs about sadness or whatever are usually the most beautiful.

 

i don't really understand how you all are using the term "simple" here, though. do you mean simple in terms of musical structure (coldplay) or simple in terms of only simple (stupid) people could like it (most of what's played on the radio these days)? because i dont think music has to be complicated or revolutionary (like radiohead) for it to be incredible. i just think it has to move you personally in some way, or connect you to it. if you truly like it, it doesnt matter who the artist or band is, as long as youre liking it because you connect to it and not because everyone else likes it. i rarely think this is the case with most teenagers and chart music.

You seem to appreciate music and reason almost in sync to me.

 

But i've never tried Death cab.

Try Their Newest album or The Postal Service album Give Up, since its the same singer, its actually quite dreamlike. The singers voice is very calming Its very decent music...

Too right. Alot of people I know are like that... grr. It really makes me mad, but I wouldn't try to convert people. Sometimes there is just no point... People will like what they like... That's what makes the world go round after all!

 

Some new friends I've made are going to see Shane Ward in a few weeks, they didn't ask me to go.. But that's because they're my friends and they just knew what my reaction would be >>

The majority of people simply don't have interest enough in music to be willing to try new things. That's what I've gathered from my experiences.

 

Allthough I still dream that somehow people would be more easy to influence with my music, but after countless attempts I'm starting to loose faith in this.

 

Oh, and please stop calling all your music "intelligent".
