What Songs Will Always be on The Setlist

Featured Replies

My guesses/ Opinion:

Politik

Yellow

The Scientist

Clocks

In My Place

Fix you

BTW do you think Fix You will stay there closing song? I couldn't think of a song better fitting at this point.

If I get to a concert on this upcoming tour and they don't play In My Place or Yellow or White Shadows I'll be devastated :(

Always:

Yellow

Clocks

Fix You

possibly always:

In My Place (they might just get sick and tired of it)

Politik

The Scientist

The thing is we dont know whether the new album is going to have any new type of opening song of awesomeness to replace Politik or to end (instead of Fix You, although Fix You would stay no matter what in the setlist due to its popularity).

So, I spose it really does depend on their new album on what stays and goes. But those top three will probs always stay, I think.

definates:

clocks

the scientist

yellow

in my place

the hardest part(kidding)

possibly always:

fix you (hope not)

politik

don't panic

talk

occasionaly

trouble

swallowed in the sea

square one

amsterdam

gpasuyf

rarely

shiver (should be played every time)

a rush of blood

everything else

never

a message(their best song)

i think the only ones that will deffi always be played for tours in years to come (ie, not just the next one) are yellow and clocks. after that, i don't know if there's anything we can say is a given, really. but fix you, IMP, the scientist, and square one are likelies at least for the next tour.

but i second what justin said: shiver should be played at every show!!!!

Yeh..thats wat i meant wen i said yellow, clocks and fixyou. I reckon theyll always be played in years to come. But I spose you're right about FixYou being a maybe as well...cos it really is sorta a ending song..and Im sure theyll want to end their concerts differently eventually.

they should end with amsterdam in my opinion

it will also depend on how many more albums they put out. If they make new music for another 15 years, its unlikely all of the definates will remain

i choose :

the scientist

talk

trouble

swallowed in the sea

shiver

everything's not lost

yellow, clocks, in my place and the scientist. These 4 for sure.

But as mentioned before, I wonder which song will close, and I also wonder which song will be their opener... I personnaly think that square one was a brilliant opener with the countdown!!!

List and explanation!

Definite:

Clocks - their biggest hit, so they'll definitely keep it

Yellow - probably the song that they're remembered by in their early days

The Scientist - also a big hit

Fix You - it's popular among fans so they'll keep it

Speed of Sound - it's not their biggest hit but ask someone in the street the first song by Coldplay that comes to mind, and the majority that have heard of them will say Speed of Sound.

Maybes:

Trouble - popular with fans, defined their career earlier along with Yellow

In My Place - they might get sick of this, I don't know

GPASUYF - same deal with In My Place, although generally not as well liked as IMP

Politik - see explanation at bottom of this list

AROBTTH - I'm personally not such a massive fan of AROBTTH, although I'm not too sure about others

Amsterdam - because yeah, we all love Amsterdam, and it's a great ending song too

White Shadows - seems to be quite popular with fans, haven't heard it myself

See You Soon - one of their more popular B-Sides

Ones I want to be kept that are not on the above lists:

Shiver - great song, rather popular, I'm not too sure on whether they'll keep it or not

Daylight - my third favourite Coldplay song, I LOVE Daylight, and I'm sure a lot of other people do too

For You - great B-Side, I wubs it :D

I don't think they'll keep opening with Politik, actually... why? Prospekt's March. They're confident with the drums in it and Politik is rather driven by the beat of all the instruments playing to that of the drums. Also, the similarity in the names shows it might be a similar track too.

I even dare to guess some of the likely songs from LP4 to be on the concert :O:

Prospekt's March - they're confident with this one, so ye

42 - I think this is going to be the title of the album judging by all of the references made to it with the album details, so they'll have the song for it too

(Song For) The Escapist - because they liek it

Famous Old Painters - if they bring the band they recorded it with on the tour or a similar assembly, then very possible

Cemeteries of London - 'tis only a guess

Lovers in Japan - sounds like a song they might include

Strawberry Swing - same as above

So ye, that is my guess... and that it might end up being a two hour concert... I don't know how long the Twisted Logic concerts went for, but could be more than two. Oh, and in case you want to know my guess at the tour title... probably Prospekt, hence their "Prospekt" entries.

I don't think that Square One and Fix You should open and close the live show anymore, I'd prefer songs from the new album. The lights at the start and the lightbulb swinging are excellent, but that was the X&Y era. They need to move on, which I'm sure they will, and better that this time around.

I agree but I didn't say anything about it since I know it'll never happen. Why are the guys so reluctant to play this great song in their gigs?

I think they'll move Fix You or get rid of it (they've changed the last song on every tour they've done so far). They'll probably keep Yellow but maybe change the way they play it (maybe have a Chris on piano solo version? Or play it acoustically?). Clocks'll stay. Politik will go. The Scientist will stay. I think they may chuck out a few songs off of X&Y.

They're obviously never going drop yellow, it being their one hit wonder and all...trouble will come and go...and I have a feeling they're gonna find another way to revive "don't panic" this year, so I'd put that on the list. umm everything's not lost will come and go. We might be surprised to politik leave the main set, at least for the first leg of the tour. I think that all four singles off of AROBTTH will stay around. I know in my place, clocks and the scientist will. and GPASUYF is one of their favorite songs to play live.

Songs off of X&Y are a lot tougher. I wouldn't be surprised of they dropped fix you, simply because I don't think it would fit into the middle of a concert. I predict talk and speed of sound will stay on the setlist.

So:

Don't Panic

Yellow

In my place

GPASUYF

The scientist

clocks

Talk

Speed of sound

That doesn't look like too much to me. Add about six songs from "42" and you have a good-sized concert. As more albums come out their setlists will naturally expand. and on top of that there'll be at least three more non-singles off of previous albums that I can't anticipate.

How the hell can you drop Politik.I agree withe Fixed. I think they should play the majority of the songs from LP4 and play 4-5 songs which are old. Yellow mabye, or Shiver, White Shadowws, Daylight Clocks and others mabye, i think they should keep the crowd guessing. And sqaure one as an opener is getting pretty tiring and Fix You as a closer, so i hope they change that.

I think they will have a new opener and a new closer song.Just like they did in the AROBTTH Tour they had Politik and Life is for Living. And the Twisted Logic Tour they had Square One and Fix You.I think they will still keep Square one at the begining of the setlist maybe just like they did with Politik.I think it might be 1.new song 2. Square One 3.Politik. 3 good openers from the previous tours and albums. But with a new album an tour im sure they would change things up with a new opener and closer. Plus they might expand the setlist a couple songs, seeing as they are on their 4th album an have so many good songs to choose from.

I also think they will keep songs like White Shadows,Talk,Square One,Fix You,and maybe Speed of Sound just because they are so arena and stadium friendly. They are very energetic songs an go well with the show and the lights and sound great live!!

They definitely won't keep square one, it was only ever appropiate for the twisted logic tour. I mean it's a good song, but I'm pretty sure we've seen the lst of it.

New songs on "42", new opinion.

They'll play most of the songs on "42", I'mma thinkin'. But to go with the theme of the album, we're looking at:

Clocks

Don't Panic

Trouble

Politik (opener)

Yellow

Maybes:

Amsterdam (closer)

Fix You (closer)

The Scientist

AROBTTH

White Shadows

Speed of Sound, although well-known, doesn't fit the theme anymore, plus it's a generic-as song. Which means kaboom for that one.

Wrong thread :embarassed:

they should end with amsterdam in my opinion

Word on both. Amsterdam as the closing song on the Live 2203 DVD is just pure love.

but I do think they will find it hard to skip Yellow, In My Place and The Scientist.

I'm pretty shure they won't play Politik, Trouble and Don't Panic forever. That's bad, cause thay are all great songs, Don't Panic is their best song in my opinion.

I hope they will skip Clocks. and In my place.

I thaught Square one was a great live opening track, but I doubt that they will stick with that one.

I think they should play all of the lp4 and maby dont pamnic and shiver or summat and then leave and for the encore just have Yellow with chris dancing funny. That would be great of an ending. and they can switch it around like have everythings lost or amsterdam. and sometims be crazy and play everythings not lost at the begging or amsterdam or whatever. If thy mixed it around it would be great. They should because they have enough material.

I think they might try to renovate their concert experience in a few ways.

1. Naturally, play the new songs from the upcoming album.

2. Whip out some songs that were not often played on previous tours. ("Shiver", "X&Y", B-sides)

3. Play familiar songs in new ways, like acoustic or punk renditions.

However, they'll still have to keep certain parts of the show the same, or some fans will cry bloody murder. As such, "Yellow", "The Scientist", and "Clocks" will probably receive the same treatment as they always have.

On another note, I just realized that it's been so long since I've heard "Square One" that I've literally forgotten what it sounds like.
