March 21, 200818 yr well we now see the studio update.....I'm guessing that is the studio update. what are your thoughts on it? And what do they mean by 6 songs achoring the album? "On a Saturday night in late February, Coldplay are in their North London headquarters, listening to mixes of new songs. After spending months writing and recording with producer Brian Eno, the band is now painstakingly wrapping up its fourth album, Viva la Vida or Death And All His Friends. A few weeks ago, Eno jetted off to work on U2
March 21, 200818 yr they mean that those six songs will be thrown in the water so that the album doesn't float away
March 21, 200818 yr My guess would be that they already chose 6 main songs that they definitely wanted to be on the album, so that at least they have part of the album settled. Most likely 3 of the 6 songs are 'Famous Old Painters" (Due to the new website layout), '42' (As mentioned in the article) and 'Death and All His Friends' (In the title) I would speculate that the other 3 are 'Chinese Sleep Chant', 'Yes!' and 'Cemeteries of london' (Because of the optimism given by the people who've heard them as well as the band) Just my 2 cents though. Definitely excited and can't wait for 'Violet Hill' as well!
March 21, 200818 yr The article made it sound like Eno ditched them haha. But im sure thats not the case.
March 21, 200818 yr Well we can definitely say 42, Famous Old Painters and Strawberry Swing will be on there, and Violet Hill released as a promo. Durn, Coldplay are good at tickling the mind :laugh3:
March 22, 200818 yr They mean it in the sense that those songs maintain the form of what they want the album to be/sound like...and the other songs differentiate quite a bit. Six songs that are most exemplary of the album. Like I'd say shiver or don't panic are most exemplary of parachutes, clocks was most exemplary of AROBTTH and speed of sound or talk was probably most representative of X&Y.
March 22, 200818 yr They said that Stawberry Swing sounds like Afro Pop? Im pretty familiar with all the different types of music but im not sure ive heard Afro pop.Or maybe i have an just havent noticed it.
March 22, 200818 yr Author They said that Stawberry Swing sounds like Afro Pop? Ditto on that.....I was waiting for someone to make an artist example of afro pop. but no one has. My guess is that its very jumpy and off beat kind of style but with all kinds of different instruments.....I'm probably 80 percent wrong so its just a guess.....lol
March 22, 200818 yr check out Youssou N'dour and Zap Mama (i know the former is considered "afropop" but the latter is a bit more contemporary methinks). if that's what Coldplay had in mind, by incorporating those styles, then i'm definitely excited to hear Strawberry Swing :D (oh snaps i haven't been back here on the boards in forever until all this buzz started flying everywhere) [/hiatus]
March 24, 200818 yr This isn't exactly afro-pop, but Chris revealed in Q magazine (February) that Brian Eno introduced the band to 'Tinariwen', a band from mali that was heavily rhythmic. I've bought myself a copy of Tinariwen's album 'Amassakoul' and damn it's good. Might not be for everyone's taste though (It takes a couple of listens and some good surround sound to fully appretiate the songs) You can check out their music videos on youtube as well. =)
March 24, 200818 yr I'm not an exert on Afro-Pop, but The Good, The Bad and The Queen (Damon Albarns last big 'project') is quite Afro-beat influenced, what with Tony Allen being the drummer on that album. If you listen to that you might get an idea of what that sound is about. Whether or not that's exactly the same style Coldplay have gone for I don't know...
March 24, 200818 yr oh man i love this pic. The first of many new ones i hope. Chris looks cool, will looks so great with those glasses and jonnys guitar looks amazing!! But wheres Guy?
March 24, 200818 yr One of the users here might post the full picture that was included in the rolling stone magazine, which includes guy on the left there. Why they cropped him out is a mystery.
March 24, 200818 yr Whats that in the background. Looks like writing on paper and the stuff in jail where you work out how long you got left.
March 24, 200818 yr ^Hmm didn't notice that before... maybe just random attempts at sorting out the tracklisting, or it could very well be messages to put up on their site. Who knows. And we're due a tracklisting this week
March 24, 200818 yr yeah, i've got the full picture with guy in it! once my roommate gets back, i'll ask her if i can borrow her scanner and i'll upload it here. i have no clue why they took guy out on the website! it's not like he's a lesser bandmember or something, and he looks equally as gorgy.

I'm just gonna throw any guess out there and say they didn't probably crop it because of the size of the page.....but then again another magazine had done it.......so never mind......lol

March 26, 200818 yr Looks like it's all crunked out for the new tour. Maybe they'll go zootv and popmart on us.
March 26, 200818 yr probably the best pic of the guys in months, would be perfect with all of them included though
