NEW YORK, NY --

Singer Beyonce Knowles reportedly wed rapper Jay-Z on Friday, a source close to the couple told People magazine.

 

“It happened earlier this evening. Jay wanted it to be a really private affair – close friends and family,” the source said.

 

News of the reported wedding comes after days of speculation following reports, which surfaced on Tuesday, that Jay-Z and Beyonce had taken out a marriage license in Scarsdale, New York.

 

The couple reportedly followed their private ceremony with a star-studded reception that included Destiny Child members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, Tina Knowles, Solange, and close friends Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay singer Chris Martin, and Jay-Z’s close friends.

 

Jay-Z’s favorite man on the turntables, DJ Cassidy, was at the reception spinning, according to the source.

 

“Cassidy mentioned a week ago that he was really excited for the Jay Z and Beyonce’s wedding party to happen,” the source said.

 

Earlier in the day, speculation that the new couple was marrying reached a new high outside Jay-Z’s Tribeca building.

 

Just before 8 PM local time, Gwyneth Paltrow and her husband, Coldplay singer Chris Martin, pulled up to the locale, where a rooftop event, believed to be the nuptials of the singer and her beau may be taking place later tonight.

 

Beyonce’s former Destiny’s Child bandmates – Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams also arrived, but hid behind an umbrella as Gwyneth and Chris were mobbed by paparazzi on the scene.

 

A fight broke out between paparazzi as Beyonce’s father, Mathew Knowles arrived and dozens of them surrounded the vehicle he was being carried in.

 

Beyonce’s sister, Solange arrived shortly after her father, dressed in a white dress.

 

Earlier in the evening an SUV believed to be carrying Oscar winner Forest Whitaker also turned up.

 

The number four has particular significance to the couple. Both Jay-Z and Beyonce were born on the 4th – Jay Z was born on December 4, 1969, while Beyonce was born September 4, 1981.

 

A host of media including four live trucks are currently stationed outside the location in preparation for coverage of the suspected nuptials. More than three dozen reporters and paparazzi are also outside with the numbers growing.

 

Throughout the day SUVs were seen entering and exiting the garage located underneath Jay-Z’s building.

 

The rooftop penthouse, owned by Jay-Z is adorned in flowers and tented scaffolding.

 

A Maybach luxury vehicle arrived at the location shortly before 7 PM local time and drove past as it was mobbed by paparazzi. Jay-Z reportedly owns one of the super high-priced cars.

After years of speculation, singer Beyoncé Knowles wed her longtime boyfriend, rapper Jay-Z, on Friday, a friend of the couple tells PEOPLE.

 

Though there is no official confirmation, the friend says, "It happened earlier this evening. Jay wanted it to be a really private affair – close friends and family."

 

The ceremony was followed by a lavish party at the rapper's Tribeca apartment that drew Beyoncé's mother Tina Knowles, her father/manager Mathew, her sister Solange, her Destiny's Child mates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, and the couple's friend Gwyneth Paltrow.

 

The wedding buzz began when the couple went to get a marriage license at a village hall in Scarsdale, N.Y., on Tuesday.

 

DJ Cassidy, a favorite of Jay-Z, was hired to spin. "Cassidy mentioned a week ago that he was really excited for the Jay Z and Beyoncé's wedding party to happen," says the friend.

 

Early Friday morning, workers erected a white tent atop the building in Tribeca, where Jay-Z owns a penthouse apartment. Not long after, an SUV carrying what seemed to be AV equipment arrived, followed by deliveries of party rentals and flowers.

 

A source tells PEOPLE that Amy's Orchids was hired to provide 50,000 to 60,000 white orchid blooms from Thailand for a "big party." At the apartment, waiters were seen practicing their service.

 

A couple since 2002, Jay-Z, 38, and Knowles, 26, always kept quiet about their relationship, even as they were photographed together on romantic holidays around the world.

 

Still, marriage seemed to be in the cards – eventually. "I never pictured myself as a bride," she told Cosmopolitan in January 2006, "but after my sister's wedding, I did start thinking about what kind of wedding I'd want. I don't think I want a big one."

Oh dear, how embarrassing for them. To be honest I think the paps wouldn't be so desperate to get a picture of them together if they weren't sooooooooo secretive all the time. It would stop things like that happening.

B) obstruct the vehicle in any way.

that's just so disgusting. what's even more disgusting is how much money those pictures and videos will bring in for those low-life paparazzi. think of how many thousands of dollars a photo of chris and gwyneth together costs. and think about how that money could be better spent towards charities; MTF and oxfam for example. argh. i'd gladly forsake seeing so many chris pics for putting that money towards places it's actually needed.

We do have those laws, however the paps ignore them frequently and in most situations if police show up, they are so outnumbered that they can't control the situation.

Great news about the wedding. It was only a matter of time before they tied the knot. Beyonce and Jay-Z have been together for ages, and it's no surprise they wanted the affair to be private with only family and close friends involved. I'm happy for them both, happier that Gwyneth and Chris were able to attend too, minus a few mishaps in getting there. Paparazzi are always going to be a problem, no point giving them more attention as it's fueling a pointless argument.

Regarding the blacked out car:

 

I know in at least some places here in the States, there are severe restrictions on the use of tinting on vehicle windows.

I'm pretty sure if the drive ran over and crushed about 10 of them, the rest would get the fuck out of the way and if they didn't oh well, just run over them too. :devil:
