Xfm will be giving Coldplay’s brand new single its first play next Tuesday (April 29) after 12 noon, plus get the full history of the track and album so far.

‘Violet Hill’ is the first single to be taken from the ‘Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends’ album, which is released on June 16.

And if you listen to Xu on Tuesday (April 29) after midday you'll hear Gareth give ‘Violet Hill’ its very first spin. Plus, keep your eyes and ears locked on to Xfm Online and on air for the most exciting Coldplay news you'll hear all year on Monday… We can say no more. Yet.

For those outside the UK you can listen to BBC6 Music and XFM webstreams via the Coldplaying toolbar - which you can download here prior to next week's news announcement and track premiere. If you have any problems with the toolbar please log them here as soon as possible.

It was revealed by Italian media (read more here) that the band recorded the video for ‘Violet Hill’ in Sicily, Italy, earlier this month. Rolling Stone Online claims ‘Violet Hill’ was at first considered to be a promotion-only single, however it will still feature on ‘Viva La Vida’. The website also had a first taste of the new single:

"Opening with a jagged distorted guitar riff, the song announces a new template: The stalking, bluesy beat beat fits nicely with Martin’s earthy vocals and plaintive lyrics – ‘If you love me, won’t you let me know?’”

The album, produced by both Brian Eno and Markus Dravs, was recorded in Barcelona, New York and London. In July 2007, Chris Martin revealed the album seemed to be shaping up with Hispanic influences, after the having recorded in churches for sessions in Barcelona.

Earlier this year a Rolling Stone Online article featured an interview Chris Martin, who said: “It’s impossible to please everybody, and it took us a whole to learn that. It’s just the freedom to say, ‘Everyone might not like this. We’re into it at the moment, so let’s just get it done’.”

In the same article Martin also revealed, “I heard a Bono quote once that said ‘Bands shouldn’t break up over money, they should break up over tracklisting’.”

The band were working on that tracklisting in their own studio in north London, where guitarist Jonny Buckland explained, “We felt like the first three albums were a trilogy, and we finished that. So we wanted to do something different.”

The eventual tracklisting:

'Life In Technicolor'

'Cemeteries Of London'

'Lost!'

'42'

'Lovers In Japan/Reign Of Love'

'Yes'

'Viva La Vida'

'Violet Hill'

'Strawberry Swing'

'Death And All His Friends'

The title, 'Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends', was inspired by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.

The obvious thing would be tour dates, wouldn't it? Is it that exciting though when you're expecting them to announce tour dates anyway? Maybe they've recorded album 5 as well and they're releasing it this year lol.

I think the 'exciting news' will be one of three things.

1. 2008 tour details (including a date at wembley stadium)

2. that they're going to replace Jay Z as the Saturday Glasto headliner

3. chris is gay

EDIT: Oh and I have next Tuesday off work, completely unplanned but seems to have worked out well none the less...

oooh! even better that we now have a time!

noon GST is about 7 AM my time, so i'm planning to get up early and then streaming XFM until i have to leave for class at 8:30! YESSSS.

my roommate is going to think i'm insane, but WHATEVER. this is totally worth it

i'm thinking that other bit of exciting news is probably the tour dates, because i can't think of anything else that we've really been waiting for that would qualify as more exciting than anything else we've already found out. i hope that they say the US tour dates too and that they'll hit my area in mid august!

Umm..I won't be able to hear it 'cause I've got a lot of studying and an exam, so I would really appreciate if anyone could post here what has been said about Coldplay on Monday. What am I saying? It will be posted here anyway:D.

Thank you!
