May 2, 200818 yr The one time I was going to use the train tomorrow to get somewhere instead of using my car and I have just found out Replacement buses will run between Basingstoke and Salisbury to connect with the above train service. There is a frecking replacement bus service on instead :( *goes off moaning about how train companies want us to leave cars at home, but then decide to do engineering works over one of the most busiest weekends of the year*
May 2, 200818 yr Maybe Boris Johnson will be able to sort it out ;) Or on the other hand, maybe he won't... (I realise you're not in London, but today is a day for political jokes. Boris Johnson. Thats a joke in itself really!)
May 2, 200818 yr Author So a relaxing 30 minute train trip to Basingstoke ends up being a 77 minute bus ride, as the 'local' bus has to go via whitchurch and overton :(
May 2, 200818 yr Author ^ more time for sleeping:) Have you tried sleeping on a bus? It ain't very good.
May 2, 200818 yr Have you tried sleeping on a bus? It ain't very good. lol I know...but I know some people can sleep anywhere ...didn't know if you were among them:P
May 2, 200818 yr Ah right, my bro lives in Bath, and Worst, I mean First, Great Western are officially the worst in the country, always having problems with them lol. We got a bus replacement from Birmingham to Northampton once I seriously thought I was going to die, the driver did about 100mph all the way, weaving in and out on the motorway. Scary stuff.

Trust me, FGW are a lot better than Wessex Trains were, even though they are 2nd worst in the country
May 2, 200818 yr I have to admit, I get trains every couple of weekends and I really can't complain. One weekend I had to get bus services from Newcastle to Darlington and on the way back, York to Newcastle. One other instance I was stuck in Peterborough as my train was delayed an hour due to the snow (early December). And another I missed a train by 10 minutes just cause my train from Newcastle to Stevenage was running slow. But my connecting train was a frequent one so it wasn't much of a problem. So that's 3 minor problems, really, after about 30 train rides. Last weekend I got a total of 12 trains (including underground). All were on time :P That sucks about your journey though David.

May 2, 200818 yr Well everyone knows public transport is shite! That is why you need a car,and it's the same story anywhere else in the world.
May 2, 200818 yr Well everyone knows public transport is shite! not everywhere. it definitely is in england though.
May 3, 200818 yr It's funny that when I was there in England and I told peopled how impressed I was with their public transportation, they looked at me like I was nuts, lol. My experiences were nothing but great, but I guess I really was thinking like a tourist.
May 3, 200818 yr I feel for you Dave. I've had the same happen to me on SW trains. Forced off at Basingstoke on a bus to Eastleigh. That's half the trip! If I wanted to take the coach to Southampton, I would went to Victoria coach station, not Waterloo TRAIN station. Almost late for the football match I was.

Boris Johnson. Thats a joke in itself really!) London is a joke in itself. Fully of arrogant yuppies wrapped in there own self importance tearing around "town" in there stupidly priced under powered cars. Anyway another bent politician gone another one in I doubt very much this one will make any difference. Violet hill was very well timed bearing in mind some of the lyrics.
May 3, 200818 yr Author I wouldn't worry too much, these days buses get you there quicker than trains because they set off on time ;) 2 hours 20 minutes it took for me to get home today due to heavy traffic in the villages due to an accident closing the 303. Compared to the 30 or so minutes by train :(
May 3, 200818 yr Author And the bus was over-crowded on the way to Basingstoke due to the army/navy rugby today, with quite a few soldiers getting on the bus at Grateley due to it having a free car-park at weekends
May 23, 200818 yr Author Why is it always when I want to use trains they get replaced by buses? :( Life sucks
August 22, 200817 yr Author Hey guess what, it's a bank holiday weekend... ...and the trains are running around here :) Basingstoke, here I come tomorrow, to do some shopping.
August 23, 200817 yr Maybe Boris Johnson will be able to sort it out ;) Or on the other hand, maybe he won't... (I realise you're not in London, but today is a day for political jokes. Boris Johnson. Thats a joke in itself really!) BORIS JOHNSON IS THE COOLEST GUY EVER, BETTER THAN EVERYONE ELSE, HE IS SOOOOOOO FUNNY oh and GRRR! GRRR!
August 23, 200817 yr The thing about train replacements is that you can usually look them up on the internet before you go....that's what I do..... they are annoying though. I had to get a bus replacement from London once....basically the whole journey on a bus. ugh. It takes forever and has to stop at every train station and everyone is completely grumpy. My other complaint is that the Victoria Line being shut from 10pm has made me nearly become stuck in London after gigs at Brixton on numerous occasions. Walking or running to Stockwell is not fun, then the annoying Northern Line... bah.
August 23, 200817 yr Author But at least the car-parking problems at my local station should be sorted soon, a new 100-space car-park (with space to be made bigger) is getting built :D
