The other thing of interest to note is how many times this reviewer has listened to the album. Coldplay's albums tend to get better with every listen, so if this guy is locked in a room with an iPod he's never going to give it 5 stars.

Good point, it took me 3 times listening through X&Y before I even said I liked it. This one is probably no different.

So when did covering a wide range of cds not normally covered by other mags get called shitty?

 

Just because they don't wank over coldplay like Q and the NME does giving them 5 out of 5 stars, instead they actually promote new bands coming up though the ranks, and bands from America which otherwise people in Britain wouldn't know about doesn't mean the reviews section is shit.

 

Remember Uncut and NME are owned by the same company, so it will be a case that the NME has everything on Coldplay's album 4 leaving Uncut with hardly anything.

yeah this wasnt really a good review. and i'm sure they only listened to it once so they shouldnt have even published this until like a couple weeks later. fags.

They could have waited for the August issue (out end of June), but then they would have missed the boat.

sorry, perhaps i didn't make myself clear:

 

their decisions for what albums to give good/bad star ratings to are shitty - they gave the new REM 3 stars too, which was bizarre.

 

and i'm all for promoting up-and-coming bands, but alot of music journos these days have decided to go to the wrong extreme, so that anything new is instantly loved and anything by anyone who's done more than 2 albums is automatically considered shit. you could say that helps new bands' careers, but you would be wrong as their first album will be a benchmark for the rest of their career if everyone loves it.

 

i don't think Uncut's a bad magazine, but i do think it focuses on two things far too much: the nostalgia wave, and new talent. if they bothered to properly listen to some of the new stuff by old bands (and they obviously haven't here, otherwise they wouldn't have mislabeled VLV's lyrics) they might actually find that some of it is as good as or even better than the 'new talent' and the albums that our parents listen to.

Funny because 3/5 reflects pretty much reactions over this board when people have started to heard VIOLET HILL...

what ever they've written for X&Y as reviews like some New York Times,Rollingstones,and some more magazines i really hated them like anything.

 

i even don't like some of the rollingstones interviewers,they're such dumb,

and i tried to give ratings because it has some of my best songs as favorites like a message,swallowed in the sea,hardest part(i don't know how every one hates this song while writing reviews?they don't even have some patience or sense to listen),low,white shadows,square one,X&Y.

 

and yeah many people like it,but the reviewers their interpretation to the world seemed like they've to hate it write at the moment.

 

they always draws their family connections with the songs but forgets truly that it can be compared to any one else in the world too.

 

and its truly implied that its about several problems in the world every one faces i mean X&Y.

 

and they also said that many of the tracks they recorded are mostly plagiarised from their favorite bands.

Uncut focuses mainly on new bands from America/Canada, leaving the NME to focus on new bands from the UK.

 

BTW the person who wrote the review is an ex-pitchfork reviewer.

 

And Pitchfork didn't really like Coldplay until a few months back when some of their writers left

You know, to me it seems the words in the review warrent 4 stars and not the 3 it was given. As I read it, it didnt seem to be a very bad review. Why the 3 stars??? I do find the errors they made to be in poor taste and It does discredit the magazine
