There's an NME review on Wednesday (though they will almost definitely give it a good review) so will be interesting to see what they say. NME may give it a good review on Wednesday then come back the following week and say it wasn't so good after all! Those guys change their minds all the time (or at least every week);)
May 24, 200818 yr It might be a plot, those 4 songs which have been leaked so far are the good tracks on the album, which the rest of the tracks complete and utter crap ;) But it's unlikely yep what i listen of the album so far 4 songs for a 3/5 the rest of the songs have to sound like britney spears or maybe chris martin singing rap. and personally i wait for the rolling stones review they put 3/5 to x & y. i trust them.

May 24, 200818 yr so far all I know is that the two songs I've heard (Viva La Vida and Violet Hill) show TONS of growth as a band. X&Y wasn't bad, but, the two songs I've heard on Viva La Vida blow it out of the water in terms of lyrics and creativity. Plus, the fact that my friends who usually hate Coldplay have really enjoyed the new songs means that they're doing SOMETHING different. The fact that this magazine gave X&Y a higher rating does not give me a lot of confidence in this review....gaaaaaah June can't come soon enough!!
May 24, 200818 yr Like I said, it depends on who gets the job of writing the review. Nah. If someone wrote a terrible review because they just hated the band the editor wouldn't let in. NME don't want to alienate their readers and if they think a review is bad, but fair (of say something Alex Turner does, god forbid you slag off him) they'd keep it in, but if someone has marked him down just because they don't him they're not just gonna let that be, because then they've alienated Turner fans who know the album is good, but now think NME just don't like him.

May 24, 200818 yr thanks for posting! i find that the written review doesn't match up with the number of stars given...that written review sounds like a 4-5 star album to me. anyway, i don't think we should take too much stock in what the critics have to say anyway. i'm more interested in what they say about the music itself rather than what they think about it. like the lyric "it's such a perfect day, i wouldn't want to change a thing"...that's the kind of information i glean out of these reviews. i LOVE that lyric! :nice:

Maybe in a magazine like Q which focuses mainly on mainstream stuff, but in Uncut they focus more on lesser known acts and Bob Dylan, and considering it's NME's 'sister magazine' so maybe they couldn't do a major feature on the band as it would harm sales of NME

May 24, 200818 yr The other thing of interest to note is how many times this reviewer has listened to the album. Coldplay's albums tend to get better with every listen, so if this guy is locked in a room with an iPod he's never going to give it 5 stars.
