Chaos for Coldplay fans as ticket blunder threatens to leave hundreds locked out of Scots gig

HUNDREDS of Coldplay fans will be locked out of their Scottish concerts after a massive ticket mix-up.

Ticketmaster have recalled a batch of 3200 briefs after they were printed on the wrong paper. The gaffe means anyone who bought the tickets from secondary sources, such as eBay, will be denied entry to the concert.

It is estimated that tickets originating from touts and fans who decided to sell them could number more than 800 for the two gigs on December 5 and 6.

Last night, Ticketmaster admitted only fans whose email addresses were registered at the time of sale would be issued with new tickets.

A spokesman said: "It is true that we have announced a recall of tickets, which should be no problem for most fans as there is a long time to go before the concert.

"If people decide to buy tickets from sources such as eBay, it is their own business, but it is something we do not recommend.

"People who buy from other sources lose the rights that other fans are covered by, given that their emails are not registered with us.

"They will therefore not be able to get the replacement tickets sent to them unless they contact the original purchaser and replace the tickets through them."

Despite the chaos, scores of tickets to the gig were selling on eBay yesterday, with some fetching £150 for tickets whose face value is £60.

Buyers had no way of knowing if the tickets will be void by the time of the concert. One disgruntled fan who emailed the Razz said: "Ticketmaster told me the gig will be empty, as most the tickets are bought from auction sites.

"Hundreds will be turned away. This is the biggest gig in Scotland, but only people with registered email addresses will know they have faulty tickets.

"Coldplay will be going nuts when they see the venue empty, as they will not allow anyone in with the tickets they botched up. This is a disgrace by Ticketmaster."

On the Ticketmaster website, a notice advises: "If you have received an email from Ticket master regarding a ticket recall for the Coldplay events at the SECC in Glasgow on December 5 and 6, we can confirm this email is legitimate and would ask you to follow instructions.

"Only customers affected by this issue have been contacted."

The news comes after it emerged that Ticketmaster also had £90,000 worth of tickets and passes for Live at: Loch Lomond and DT Tiesto's Manchester set go missing.

What's more surprising is that Ticketmaster are sending out tickets for big concerts in July when the concerts ain't until December.

Talk about playing into the hands of the dirty touts (however if rumours are to be believed, a limited number of standing tickets will be released soon for some shows quietly)
